Development of a Training Program for Hotel Banquet Service Employees (호텔연회 서비스종사원의 교육프로그램개발을 위한 연구)

  • This study systematically analyzes job descriptions of hotel banquet service employees using DACUM. The expert group involved in the content analysis was comprised of 6 F&B managers working at deluxe level hotels. The period for this study was from May to June in 2010, and a group interview, an individual self fill-out together with a personal interview were carried out. Findings from the analysis were as follows; job duties for hotel banquet service employees extended to pre-task, on-task and post-task for each banquet function, safety management, guest encounter and self development. They included 49 specific job tasks which were divided into 5 different categories; 16 pre-task, 13 on-task, 10 post-task, 4 safety management and 6 guest encounter and self development It is suggested from the findings that advance training should be carried out for pre, on and post tasks.

  • With the environmental changes of the times, consumers expect new experiences and seek hotels with various leisure facilities and sensuous design rather than existing static and conservative ones. In particular, boutique hotels connected to all the aspects of lifestyle including architecture, culture, art and fashion are trying out a variety of designs through collaborations in the ways of enhancing their brand images in the design industry. Design through collaboration between different fields has an infinite possibility of breaking from classicism and creating a new type of space in hotel design. Thus, this study attempts to analyze a few cases of boutique hotels by collaborative design that has recently been vitalized and to seek for a direction by suggesting the methods of utilizing design by collaboration for the hotel industry that will further be expanded in the future. For this purpose, first, the theories of collaboration and boutique hotel will be reviewed and the characteristics will be drawn out based on the examples of boutique hotels to which collaborations have been applied by enterprises and designers. By analyzing and classifying the cases of the domestic and foreign boutique hotels through practical experiences among the hotels recently designed by the collaborations between enterprises and designers based on the basic frame of the five characteristics drawn out: identity, symbolism, temporality, locality and interaction, objective values will be drawn out and data for presenting the future orientation will be built. In the Korean hotel industry that is gradually expanding, boutique hotel designs through the appropriate collaboration between enterprises and designers should be considered for the extensive development of the future hotel industry.

Study on Effect of Hotel Place Marketing Using Media PPL (영상물 PPL을 이용한 Hotel 장소 마케팅 효과 연구)

  • Recently, the hotel business requires to secure various client bases and accompany proper marketing and advertising activities for survival and development. Media PPL has been popular as an effective method to meet these requirements. Many studies have been practiced about the effect of media PPL marketing. This study was practiced to confirm the effect of the hotel place marketing using media PPL and the involvement for character in PPL. The following 4 assumptions are established for these purposes. The first confirms the impact relation between media PPL and hotel image. The second confirms whether the involvement for characters in media PPL influences the impact relation between media PPL and hotel image. The third confirms the impact relation between hotel image and purchasing behaviors. And the last confirms whether the involvement for characters in media PPL influences the impact relation between hotel image and purchasing behaviors. In order to analyze the assumptions established for this study, A questionnaires is carried out and factor analysis, reliability analysis and regression analysis are performed with them. According to the results of these analyses, all of 4 established assumptions are partly accepted.

  • Some problems facing the cities in modern times begin to be highlighted due to the development into the information-oriented society via the stage of industralization. The structures built centering on the second industries have become superannuated to degenerate as horrid objects while losing their purposefulness with the emergence of the information age. In designing a hotel space where people stay temporarily unlike the housing space for a permanent stay, housing designers are making efforts to work on space design that could be more imprinted in the mind of the users. As the fruit of their sheer labor, the space design in modern hotel design comes to direct a diversity of atmospheres by virtue of various art genres which try to apply it to a space by borrowing it and changing its appearance. Thus, this study aims to look into how the gradually evolving conversion design hotel come to be recreated as an urban regeneration space while retaining the value of the space used in the past, and to analyze & systematize its subsequent design patterns applied to conversion design hotel space with focus on the recent cases.

Perceived Image of the Jeju Island Dolhareubang: Implications for Online Destination Image in Korea using Q Method

  • Almost all Koreans recognize the Dolhareubang as a representative symbol of Jeju. However, as the development of online technology progressed, the image and perception of the Dolhareubang is also expected to change. Thus, this study explored the perceived images of Dolhareubang by focusing on residents in Seoul, Korea using Q methodology. The goal of this research was to evaluate this iconic representation of Jeju as an important component of the island's online tourism destination image. The Q-set was developed from existing literature and defined conceptually in terms of 'value', 'resource', 'story', and 'image'. Thirty five respondents were recruited as P set. Findings indicated four distinctive clusters that perceived the Dolhareubang differently and differences in perceptions were observed in terms of age. The examination of destination image and the exploration of the perceptions of Dolharuebang as a representative of Jeju could contribute to online destination image management or development, which is a crucial component of smart tourism.

Factors Influencing Hotel Workers' Health Practices (호텔 근로자의 건강실천행위에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate the factors influencing hotel workers' health practice. Methods: This study was based on the partial PRECEDE model. The subjects of this study were 261 servers sampled at random from a hotel located in Seoul. For the statistical analysis of collected data, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and logistic regression were performed with the SAS (Version. 8.01) program. Results: There were statistically significant primary factors influencing different parts of health practice. That is, regular exercise was influenced by gender, age and marital status, diet habit was by marital status, and type of working, prohibition of smoking was by gender, age and type of employment, and drinking by gender and job stress. Conclusion: This study has a limitation in generalized application to hotels in this country because it is a cross-sectional examination about the factors affecting health practice in the employees of a hotel. Further study is needed with various and broad variables that promote health practice and contributed to the development of health promotion programs.

  • With development of digital technology and globalization after Seoul Olympic in 1988, Korea has recklessly accepted western culture, thus causing damages to Korean identity The purpose of this study is to design Imperial Palace Hotel VIP lounge space applying traditional Korean style. This study analyzed traditional expression according to its element and method taken out from the prior researches related to it. The method of traditional expressions divided into the method of prototype reappearance, prototype transformation, reinterpretation, and abstract. This study aimed at get the understanding on traditional Korean architecture, space planning and furniture arrangement. As a result, the plan represent traditional Korean style including the space planning and furniture, the colors and patterns, and the building materials. The Imperial Palace VIP lounge Is not tile space for eating and social activities, but also provide the space for introducing traditional Korean culture and life.

Design practice for a prefabricated resort hotel in Hendurabi Island

  • Small islands in humid and hot climates have received less attention development due to lack of resources and difficulties for in-situ construction. This paper addresses this problem by presenting a modular system for sustainable construction of a resort hotel in accordance with the international tourism standards, in addition to, minimizing undesirable effects on nature. This has been achieved by review of literature in the scope of off-site construction and identification of the natural geographical features of Herndurabi Island. According to the information acquired, a feasibility study and design practice have been conducted to achieve a reasonable solution to equip Hendurabi Island as a sample with a self-sufficient prefabricate resort hotel. Findings indicate that the volumetric prefabricated modules would be a solution to devising a framework for design and construction in remote regions.

  • As hotel industry lately recognize that food and drink industry produces more profits than hotel rooms, multi-various and scientific management policies are required along with the management of profitability. Particularly, as hotel services have become more alike due to the development of technology and sharing information, opportunities for differentiation have decreased. Human resource is a significant key for the hotel business as it could lead to a success or failure. It would be overwhelming for employees if they carry all the burdens on their shoulders to impress the customers and improve the service culture in this fast-changing society with different colors of human desire. Therefore, it is essential to focus on developing strategies of efficient organizational as well as human resource management, and the managerial leadership with capability of understanding the organizational structure should play the leading role, considering the specific characteristics of hotel business. The purposes of the study are transformational leadership and transactional leadership comparison analysis of hotel F&B to management strategy.

  • This study examines for the processes of making a architectural significant issue of 20 cases form of Beijjng's hotel through analyzing the space composition from early the 1950's to 1992 in China. In the methods of analyzing process, We study the literatures, research reports and architectural drawings including the site survey. We hope to establish the principle in morphological characteristics and space composition of Beijing's high-rise hotels through analyzing the plan of these hotels. Finally, We find out the principles after researching. Firstly, Beijing's hotels in China faced on the being difficulties through the process of national development especially in political and economical conditions of country and peoples. Consequently, size of the Beijing's hotel developed with the fact that is complicated from that is single styles focused on the medium-sized one, modernizing popularity and the high-rise hotel buildings appeared plentifully and the form appeared with tall building putting first. Secondly, there are many immanent and interlocking styles in hotel's architectural block plans, many composition styles in big sized hotels, in opposition immanent styles in small sized ones and there are many trend of concourse style in medium sized hotels. To the layout of hotel's room inside of the linear styles are many in big and medium sized hotels.
