  • In the study, we estimate efficiencies using CCR model of DEA, Super efficiency(AP) model, and super-SBM model with the data of 32 regional public hospitals in Korea from 205 to 2009. With Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney statistics, we analyze efficiency differences for environmental factors(regions, type of hospital, type of operations, type of education training, relative importance of madicaids) among regional public hospitals. The results can be summarized as follows. Firstly, technical inefficiencies of regional public hospitals range from 15% to 17% in CCR model, 13% to 15% in AP model, 7% to 12.6% in SuperSBM model. Second, we confirm that environmental factors of hospitals cause different inefficiencies among them. The implication of this study is that policy and institutional change may need to improve the efficiencies along with internal managerial reform.

  • The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the experiences of nurses in graduate school who fill multiple professional roles. The research's participants were women in the nursing profession studying towards postgraduate degrees. Their experiences were analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method of qualitative research. The results showed that participants feel constantly short of time, pressure from the demands of their study, guilt owing to inability to fulfill family commitments, struggles related to the conflicts of multiple roles, and the feeling of satisfaction from accomplishing professional goals. This paper suggests that if nurses undergoing graduate study have an organized support system to help them perform the roles, they will find an identity in the nursing profession and will take care of their patients more professionally as a result. Such support depends in part on health administrators' greater understanding of the nurses' circumstances.

  • This study attempts to suggest a theoretical basic frame that is needed for nursing intervention regarding the sexual experiences of the mentally disabled. The data were collected through a series of interviews with 14 participants. With permission of the mentally disabled, the interviews were recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed using the framework of grounded theory mapped out by Strauss & Corbin(1998). The following 3 theories were confirmed on the basis of repetitive relations: becoming nest type, exercising self-restraint type, getting tangled type. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a realistic sex education that is relevant to hospital, community mental health center, and culture. The nurse is required to activily participate in educating the mentally disabled with a diverse approach to instill and nurture the sober perspective about sex such as the pleasure, life, intimacy based on sexual equality.
