An experimental investigation was performed to study the characteristics of turbulent water flow in a horizontal circular tube by using liquid crystal. To determine some characteristics of the turbulent flow, 2D PIV technique is employed for velocity measurement and liquid crystal is used for heat transfer experiments in water. Temperature visualization was made quantitatively by calibrating the color of the liquid crystal versus temperature using various approaches (TLC technique: Thermochromic Liquid Crystal), and a neural-network algorithm was applied to the color-to-temperature calibration. This study shoud the temperature and time-mean velocity distribution for Re = 2,436, 2,500 and 2,724 along longitudinal sections and the results appear to be physically reasonable.

This parer was presented for the experimental results of torsional vibrations of the horizontal rotating shaft with three disks. The torsional vibrations meter used is a laser system for non-contact measurement of torsional angular vibration velocity and torsional angular vibration displacement. The distance between the disks war changed; the one that had 76mm of disk distance war called basic model, and another that had 106mm of disk distance wide model, and other that had 46mm of disk distance narrow model. In each model, outer diameter of disk was 40mm. And 45mm, or 50mm was also used to extend the effective range of frequencies. The angula vibration displacement and the angular vibration velocity in its torsional vibration were measured to obtain the stable and the unstable regions.
Common-mid-point (CMP) seismic data on a dipping layer have have a stacking different from a horizontal layer velocity and the reflection points on data are dispersed to many positions. Therefore, the CMP data are not stacked well by the conventional stacking method using the horizontal layer velocity. The CMP gather can ideally stacked by applying dip-moveout(DMO) processing. Hence, modern seismic processing indludes DMO as an essential routine step. DMO processing techniques are broadly categorized by two, Fourier transform and integral methods, each of which has many different computational schemes. In this study, the dip-decomposition technique of the Fourier transform method is used to test the DMO effect on the synthetic scismic data generated for dipping structures. Each of constnat offset sections NMO corrected by using the layer velocity of the model and DMO processed. The resulting zero-offset sections for many offsets are stacked. The stacked sections with DMO processing show the structural boundaries of the models much better than those without DMO processing.
An experimental investigation on the flow pattern and pressure drop was carried out for both an adiabatic and a diabatic two-phase flow in a horizontal tube with pure refrigerants R134a and R123 and their mixtures as test fluids. The observed flow patterns were compared to the flow pattern map of Kattan et al., which predicted well the present data over the entire regions of mass velocity in this study. The measured frictional pressure drop in the adiabatic experiments increased with an increase in vapor quality and mass velocity These data were compared to various correlations proposed in the past for the frictional pressure drop. The Chisholm correlation underpredicted the present data both for pure fluids and their mixtures in the entire mass velocity range of 150 to 600 kg/m$^2$s covered in the measurements, white the Friedel correlation was found to overpredict the present data in the stratified and stratified-wavy flow region, and to underpredict in the annular flow region.
Two-Phase flow pattern and pressure drop data were obtained for pure refrigerants R134a and R123 and their mixtures as test fluids in a horizontal tube. The flow pattern is observed through tubular sight glasses located at inlet and outlet of the test section. The flow map of Baker developed for air-water two-phase flow at atmospheric pressure failed to predict the observed flow patterns at the higher value of the mass velocity used in the present study. The map of Kattan et al. predicted the data well over the entire region of mass velocity selected in the present study. The measured pressure drop increased with an increase in vapor quality and mass velocity. A new two-phase multiplier was developed from a dimensional analysis of the frictional pressure drop data measured in the present experiment. This new multiplier was found successfully to correlate the frictional pressure drop.

Experimental data on the heat transfer characteristics of HCFC-123 and CFC-11 during condensation in horizontal smooth tube are presented. The experimental apparatus consisted of a closed working fluid loop, coolant loop, and measuring system. The major components of the working fluid loop made of a refrigerant pump, boiler, superheater, refrigerant flow meter, receiver and test section. The tube-in-tube type test section was made of smooth tube which were constructed form 9.52 mm outer diameter of smooth copper tube with 50 mm outside diameter of PVC tube duct. The ranges of parameter, such as refrigerant mass velocity, coolant flow rate, and quality were 90-325kg/($m^2$.s), 60-360kg/h, 5-95% respectively. Data were obtained under steady state condition for annular flow. As a result of these, the condensation heat transfer coefficients for HCFC-123 were slightly lower than those of CFC-11 from 8% to 15% inside horizontal smooth tube. Furthermore, a new generalized correlation for the heat transfer coefficients of HCFC-123 and CFC-11 during condensation inside horizontal smooth tube is proposed.

Experimental results for forced convection condensationof Refrigerant-22 and ternary Refrigerant-407c(HFC-32/125/134a 23/25/52 wt%) considered as a substitute R-22 inside horizontal micor-fin tubes are presented. The test section was horizontal double-tubed counterflow condenser with a length 4000 mm micro-fin tube having 9.53 mm OD., 0.2 mm fin height and 60 fins. The refrigerants R-22 and R-407c were cooled by a coolant circulated in a surrounding annulus. The range of parameters of mass velocity was varied from 102.1 to 301.0kg/($\textrm{m}^{2}.s$) with inlet quality 1.0. Both refrigerant R-22 and its alternative refrigerant R-407c were tested within the same range of parameters. At the given experimental conditions for R-22 and R-407c the pressure drops for R-407c were considerably higher than those for R-22 at micro-fin tubes. Over the mass velocity range tested the PF(penalty factor)was lower than the increasing ratio of heat transfer area by fins. Based on the data correlation was proposed for predicting the frictional pressure drops for R-22 and R-407c for a duration of condensation inside a horizontal micro-fin tube.
The investigation of the fuel cladding temperature behavior and heat transfer mechanism during the reflooding phase of a LOCA plays an important role in performance evaluation of ECCS and safety analysis of water reactors. Reflooding experiments were performed with horizontal and vertical flow channels to investigate the effect of coolant flow channel orientation on rewetting process. Emphasis was mainly placed on the CANDU reactor which has horizontal pressure tubes in core, and the results were compared with those of vertical channel. Also to investigate the rewetting process visually, the experiments by using a rod in annulus and a quartz tube heated outside were performed. It can be concluded that the rewetting velocity in horizontal flow channel is clearly affected by flow stratification, however, the average rewetting velocity is similar to those in vertical flow channel for same conditions.

In this study, the dynamic behavior of a single pile foundation was investigated by using an analytical and numerical studies. The emphasis was given on quantifying a function about the coefficient of dynamic horizontal subgrade reaction from 3D analysis. Based on the numerical analysis, a modified correction factor (α), which is used to obtain the coefficient dynamic horizontal subgrade reaction, was proposed by considering shear wave velocity of soil and confining stress. It was found that the prediction by pseudo-static analysis using the proposed coefficient is in good agreement with the general trends observed by dynamic analysis, and it represents a practical improvement in the prediction of behavior for pile foundations subjected to dynamic loads.

Computational study of a gravity current prior to the backdraft was conducted using fire dynamic simulator (FDS). Various initial conditions of mixture compositions and compartment temperature as well as four opening geometries (Horizontal, Door, Vertical, and Full opening) were considered to figure out their effects on the gravity current. The density difference ratio (${\beta}$) between inside and outside of compartment, the gravity current time ($t_{grav}$) and velocity ($v_{grav}$), and non-dimensional velocity ($v^*$) were introduced to quantify the flow characteristics of the gravity current. Overall fluid structure of the gravity current at the fixed opening geometry showed similar development process for different ${\beta}$ conditions. However, $t_{grav}$ for entering air to reach the opposed wall to the opening geometry increased with ${\beta}$. Door, Vertical, and Horizontal openings where openings are attached on the ground showed similar development process of the gravity current except for Horizontal opening, which located on the middle of the opening wall. The magnitude of $v_{grav}$ at fixed ${\beta}$ was, from largest to smallest, Full > Vertical > Door > Horizontal, but it depended on both the size and location of the opening. On the other hand, $v^*$ was found to be independent to ${\beta}$, and only depended on the geometry of the opening.
