Radiation Pattern of SH Waves Generated by an Orientation-adjustable Patch-type Magnetostrictive Transducer (조향 자기변형 트랜스듀서의 전단파 방사 패턴)

  • This is concerned with the radiation pattern of elastic waves in a plate generated by an orientation-adjustable patch-type magnetostrictive transducer. In general, not only the Lamb waves but also shear horizontal (SH) waves are produced by the deformation of the circular magnetostrictive patch bonded to a plate. Among the two types of waves, this paper investigates the radiation patterns of SH waves. A number of experimental results are presented. They are also accurately predicted by a theory developed by the present authors. Experimental findings were explained by a theoretical analysis.

  • Greenhouses should be heated during nights and co Id days in order to fit growth conditions in greenhouses. Ground source heat pump(GSHP) or geothermal heat pump system(GHPs) is recognized to be outstanding heating and cooling system. Horizontal GSHP system is typically less expensive than vertical GSHP system but requires wide ground area to bury ground heat exchanger (GHE). In this study, a horizontal GSHP system with thermal storage tank was installed in greenhouse and investigated as performance characteristics. In the daytime, heating load of greenhouse is very small or needless because solar radiation increases inner air temperature. The results of study showed that the heating coefficient of performance of the heat pump($COP_h$) was 2.9 and the overall heating coefficient of performance of the system($COP_{sys}$) was 2.4. Heating energy cost was saved 76% using the horizontal GSHP system with thermal storage tank.

  • In this paper, the beam steering dipole phased array antenna systems for IMT-2000 base station have been designed. The designed beam steering dipole phased array antenna systems are constituted by the antenna part and the beam steering control system part. The antenna part is designed by the proposed flat dipole for the broadband characteristics, and the 8${\times}$8 dipole array antenna is constructed by the proposed flat dipole for the directional radiation pattern. Besides the vertical power divider is designed for the vertical power distribution. The beam steering control system part is designed the horizontal power divider for the horizontal power distribution, the 4-bit phase shifters and the driving circuit of phase shifters for the horizontal beam tilting. In order to evaluate a performance of the designed antenna systems, they were fabricated and the radiation characteristics were measured. From the measured results, we found that the horizontal beams were tilted by the each control signals, and the measured radiation characteristics showed good agreement with the design goals.

A Study on Accuracy Evaluation of Horizontal Global Radiation Data in Korea (국내 수평면 전일사량 데이터의 정확도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has been collecting horizontal global radiation data since May, 1982 for 16 different locations. KIER's new data is expected to be extensively used by designer and researchers of solar systems in lieu of unreliable old ones. Unfortunately, the quality of the data has not always been properly mentioned. Some of them were taken at temporary field stations where the primary goal of the measurement was quick estimation of local solar radiation. The purpose of this study is to systematically identify errors in such data set using clear-day analysis in an effort to rehabilitate error-ridden old data. Clear-day analysis successfully uncovered solar radiation data that had questionable quality. Even through the rehabilitation process not necessarily improves the quality of data for daily or monthly mean, it can be used to improve the quality of data for monthly means of several years and the processed data can be used in various applications of solar energy with more confidence. A average ETR value of 0.63 obtained in this study is in good agreement with previous results obtained by other researchers.

A Detailed Analysis of Solar Energy Resources in Korean Peninsula Using a Satellite (인공위성을 이용한 한반도 태양에너지자원 상세 정밀분석)

  • Since the solar energy resource is the main input for sizing any solar energy utilization system, it is essential to utilize the solar radiation data as an application and development of solar energy system increase. It will be necessary to understand and evaluate the insolation data. The Korea Institute of Energy Research(KIER) has begun collecting horizontal global insolation data since May, 1982 at 16 different locations in Korea and for the more detailed analysis, images taken by geostationary satellite may be used to estimate solar irradiance fluxes at earth's surface. It is based on the empirical correlation between a satellite derived cloud index and the irradiance at the ground. From the results, the measured data has been collected at 16 different stations and estimated using satellite at 44 different stations over the Korean peninsula from 1982 to 2010. The Result of analysis shows that the annual-average daily global radiation on the horizontal surface is 3.66 $kWh/m^2/day$ and estimated solar radiation fluxes show reliable results for estimating the global radiation with average deviation of -7.2 to +3.7 % from the measured values.

  • The daily photosynthetic photon flux density incident on a horizontal surface was estimated with sunshine duration through daily global radiation at Taegu in Korea. The constant and coefficient of $\AA$ngstrom equation for global radiation were calculated as 0.1763 and 0.5012, respectively. The conversion factor from daily global radiation to daily photosynthetic photon flux density was determined as 2.2359.

  • This paper is described the review of several selected accelerators and the use of accelerators in various purposes. The electrostatic accelerators and RF accelerators have been developed before the second world war for the purpose of basic research of physics mainly. RF driven accelerators have been achieved higher energy and applied in medical and industrial use after 1980's. Accelerators have improved incorporating new technologies : axial and horizontal injection, stripping extraction, superconducting RF, computer control, superconducting magnet etc.. Also recent key technologies as BT and NT make the expansion of applications of the accelerators.

  • The interaction of oblique monochromatic incident waves with a horizontal flexible membrane is investigated in the context of two-dimensional linear hydro-elastic theory. First, analytic diffraction and radiation solutions for a submerged impermeable horizontal membrane are obtained. Second, the theoretical prediction was compared with a series of experiments conducted in a two-dimensional wave tank at Texas A&M University. The measured reflection and transmission coefficients reasonably follow the trend of predicted values. Using the developed computer program, the performance of surface-mounted or submerged horizontal membrane wave barriers is tested with various system parameters and wave characteristics. It is found that the properly designed horizontal flexible membrane can be an effective wave barrier and its efficiency can be further improved using a porous material.

  • A numerical investigation has been performed to discuss the radiation-affected steady-laminar natural convection induced by a hot inner cylinder under a large temperature difference in the annuli filled with a gray gas. To examine the effects of thermal radiation on thermo-fluid dynamic behaviors in the eccentric geometry, the generalized body-fitted coordinate system is introduced while the finite volume method (FVM) is used for solving the radiative transport equation. After validating the numerical results for the case without radiation, the detailed radiation effect has been discussed. Based on the results of this study, when there exists a large temperature difference between two cylinders, the existence of radiatively participating medium is found to incur a distinct difference in fluid dynamic as well as thermal behavior.
