The Relationship between Spirituality and Fighting Spirit among Cancer Patients in Korea (암환자의 영성과 투병정신과의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between spirituality and a fighting spirit among the patients with cancer. Methods: The participants were 223 patients diagnosed stomach, colorectal or breast cancer, and who were in chemotherapy or follow up care. The study design was cross-sectional at the time of the data collection. The degree of spirituality was measured by the Korean version of WHOQOL Spirituality, Religiousness and Personal Beliefs (SRPB) Pilot Test Module, and fighting spirit was measured by the scores of Mental Adjustment to Cancer(MAC) scale. Results: The score of love appeared to be higher in the patients with follow up care than the patients with treatment(p<0.05) and the score of believing was much higher in patients with recurrence than the patients without (p<0.05). There was a statistically significant correlation among hope, believing, love, forgiveness and acceptance, and fighting spirit. In the multiple regression analysis, hope and believing explained much variance of the fighting spirit. Conclusion: These finding showed that the more hopeful and believing patients with cancer had higher scores of fighting spirit, which was known to be one of the most active coping style in adjusting to cancer.

  • The purpose of this study is to computerize the design of single source for a duct work system which is essential for the improvement of working places. There are different types of hood, such as general hood, push pull hood and canopy hood. And out of these three types, general hood and canopy hood were used as subjects of this study. The software used here was Quattro Pro 123 programm, and the hardware was IBM PS/SX(type 5510-SK4 S/N 83-05164). And the results are tabulated in

    . All of the hazardous factors of working places, except for physical factors, such as noise, vibration, illumination and etc, are control measurement related. In order words, workiong places that have problems with toxic gas, mist, fume, dust, odors, biological factors or wetness can be improved by means of the local ventilation design. However, the reqires very complicate processes, and in the case of canopy hood, particularly, one runs into difficulties due to frequent discrepancies generated from calculations through many processes. Recently, progress of the computer hardware technics has been dazzling, and also the software is development rapidly. As proven in the results of this study, it is good that designs for industrial ventilation systems are readily available for easy use. It is hopeful that young scholars will develop easier and quicker methods for local ventilation designs in the future.

  • A Study on the Target Values Fixing of Green Vehicle Emissions in Consideration of In-use Deterioration (운행차 열화특성을 고려한 제작차 배출가스 목표치 설정에 관한 연구)

    • As exhaust emission standards are more stringent, higher conversion efficiency of automotive catalytic converter is required. In addition, catalytic converter is deteriorated during mileage accumulation of vehicle. Therefore the specification of catalytic converter should be decided in consideration of emission standards and deterioration. Because the decision of the specification of catalytic converter is required at the beginning of vehicle development procedure, it is important and necessary to fix the target values of green vehicle exhaust emissions. To do this, a linear regression analysis was done with in-use exhaust emissions data of 5 different kinds of vehicle that received US94 emission standards certification, and data handling methods including some statistical estimation were proposed. As a result, the fixed target values of NMHC, CO, NOx of green vehicle against US94 emission standards were 0.079, 0.83, 0.116, respectively. And expected in-use deterioration factor of NMHC, CO, NOx were 1.75, 2.02, 1.38, respectively. And also it was blown that even if failure rate is 30% after 80,000km driven, it might be sufficiently safe from emission failure confirmatory test of Korea. It is hopeful to make a database of in-use emissions to increase the confidence in correctness of the calculated target values.

    • There are two major factors to use NoSQL in order to manage Big Data; to increase productivity of an application programmer and to increase data access performance. But, in many business fields, this hopeful plan lacks careful consideration. For efficient and effective management and analysis of Big Data, it is necessary to perform a test with the expectation for productivity and performance of the application programmer before deciding whether NoSQL technique is used or not. In this paper, we research on programmer productivity, data access performance, risk distribution, and so forth.

    • Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the leading cause of cancer mortality among women worldwide. The life-threatening infection caused by HPV demands the need for designing anticancerous drugs. In the recent years, different compounds from natural origins, such as carrageenan, curcumin, epigallocatechin gallate, indole-3-carbinol, jaceosidin, and withaferin, have been used as a hopeful source of anticancer therapy. These compounds have been shown to suppress HPV infection by different researchers. In the present study, we explored these natural inhibitors against E6 oncoprotein of high-risk HPV-16, which is known to inactivate the p53 tumor suppressor protein. A robust homology model of HPV-16 E6 was built to anticipate the interaction mechanism of E6 oncoprotein with natural inhibitory molecules using a structure-based drug designing approach. Docking analysis showed the interaction of these natural compounds with the p53-binding site of E6 protein residues 113-122 (CQKPLCPEEK) and helped the restoration of p53 functioning. Docking analysis, besides helping in silico validation of natural compounds, also helps understand molecular mechanisms of protein-ligand interactions.

    • The leading cause of cancer mortality globally amongst the women is due to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. There is need to explore anti-cancerous drugs against this life-threatening infection. Traditionally, different natural compounds such as withaferin A, artemisinin, ursolic acid, ferulic acid, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate, berberin, resveratrol, jaceosidin, curcumin, gingerol, indol-3-carbinol, and silymarin have been used as hopeful source of cancer treatment. These natural inhibitors have been shown to block HPV infection by different researchers. In the present study, we explored these natural compounds against E6 oncoprotein of high risk HPV18, which is known to inactivate tumor suppressor p53 protein. E6, a high throughput protein model of HPV18, was predicted to anticipate the interaction mechanism of E6 oncoprotein with these natural inhibitors using structure-based drug designing approach. Docking analysis showed the interaction of these natural inhibitors with p53 binding site of E6 protein residues 108-117 (CQKPLNPAEK) and help reinstatement of normal p53 functioning. Further, docking analysis besides helping in silico validations of natural compounds also helped elucidating the molecular mechanism of inhibition of HPV oncoproteins.

    A Study on Gap between Government's Institutions and Public People based on Ontology Inference about ICT Future Technology

    • This paper analyzes how much the gap existed between the public group and expert group using future issues and future core technologies that are announced in government institutions based on ontology. We calculated gap with two groups' point of view, one is expert groups' ideas that are based on future hopeful technologies documents, and another is public people ideas that are based on documents of contest that is hosted by 'Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP)', and 'Institute for Information & communications Technology Promotion (IITP)'. For calculating these, we suggested SDGM model. In the case of ETRI Meta-trend ICT Field, there is a little gap between expert group and public group, and another case that is XT (ETRI determined future technologies excluding ICT field) Field, the gap is increasing annually. Moreover, in the case of all ETRI Meta trend, the gap is bigger than ICT and XT field. We analyzed, also, KEIT's future issues for generalizing this model. The gap existed between two groups. Utilizing SDGM model of this paper, people can interpret easily how much the gap exists between future technologies and issues that are announced in institutions.

    From Cleansed to Crave: The Paradox of 'Cruelty' and Love in Sarah Kane (『정화』에서 『갈망』으로 -사라 케인의 '잔혹'과 사랑의 역설)

    • Despite the ubiquity of love in the work of Sarah Kane, the theme has been overshadowed by the violence that characterizes her early plays. This essay differentiates Kane from her contemporary "in-yer-face" playwrights, arguing that violence in Kane operates as a means of securing love. Antonin Artaud's concept of cruelty, often (mis)understood in a physical sense alone, provides a clue to the nature of Kane's violence and its relation to love. The essay focuses on Cleansed and Crave, both written in 1998, one about love's redemptive possibility, the other about its pure impossibility. What makes Cleansed hopeful is its violence that works as love's obstacle, creating the illusion that once it is removed love would be possible. The absence of violence in Crave on the contrary lays the illusion of love bare, making it Kane's most despairing play. Kane's oeuvre draws a trajectory of love from hope to despair; as a whole it stages the impossibility of love. To love the other requires the relinquishing of the self, making love logically impossible by depriving the verb of its subject. Love, if possible, would offer the bliss of unity, tearing out the constraint of the Symbolic Order. Kane's only alternative is death, as is expressed in Crave and 4.48 Psychosis.

    • The present paper aims to examine how prospective teachers' experience of creating UCC materials affects their teaching expertise and creativity. The group of subjects consists of a group of 19 students majoring in Japanese under the teacher certificate curriculum at N University located in Cheonan. The collected data was analyzed using a set of statistical methods including frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test using SPSS WIN 21.0. It was found that there was a positive correlation between their UCC experiences and their teaching subject expertise/creativity. It was also found that the former exerted a statistically significant effect on the latter. The results of the current research might suggest that teachers' teaching methods in the field are very important. It is hopeful that innovative teaching methods and activities will be introduced and expanded in the filed to produce more effective education.The Korea Convergence Society.

    Vanishing Line based Lane Detection for Augmented Reality-aided Driver Induction

    • In this paper, we propose the augmented reality(AR) based driving navigation based on robust lane detection method to dynamic environment changes. The proposed technique uses the detected lane position as a marker which is a key element for enhancing driving information. We propose Symmetrical Local Threshold(SLT) algorithm which is able to robustly detect lane to dynamic illumination environment change such as shadows. In addition, by using Morphology operation and Connected Component Analysis(CCA) algorithm, it is possible to minimize noises in the image, and Region Of Interest(ROI) is defined through region division using a straight line passing through several vanishing points We also propose the augmented reality aided visualization method for Interchange(IC) and driving navigation using reference point detection based on the detected lane coordinates inside and outside the ROI. Validation experiments were carried out to assess the accuracy and robustness of the proposed system in vairous environment changes. The average accuracy of the proposed system in daytime, nighttime, rainy day, and cloudy day is 79.3% on 4600 images. The results of the proposed system for AR based IC and driving navigation were also presented. We are hopeful that the proposed research will open a new discussion on AR based driving navigation platforms, and thus, that such efforts will enrich the autonomous vehicle services in the near future.
