Proopiomelanocortin (POMC) plays an essential role in the disease resistance system and is the precursor protein of biologically active peptides such as adrenocorticotropin (ACTH), $\alpha-melanocyte-stimulating$ hormone $(\alpha- MSH)$, $(\beta-melanocyte-stimulation hormone\;(\beta- MSH)$ and $\beta-endorphin$. We have isolated and sequenced two different forms of POMC cDNA, POMC-I and POMC-II, from a pituitary cDNA library of flounder. POMC-I cDNA consisted of 956 bp corresponding to deduced amino acids of 216 residues and POMC-II cDNA was 982 bp in length corresponding to 194 amino acids, respectively. The results of deduced amino acids analysis of the clones showed high sequence homology with previously reported POMCs amino acid sequences from various species. The homology between flounder POMC-I and -II is$57\%$ identity. We also constructed a phylogenetic tree based on POMC amino acid sequences.

Monthly Screening of Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, was surveyed by PCR for Ostreid herpesvirus(OsHV-1) infections from 2012 to 2013 in Korea. It was showed positive results in one hatchery in April and May 2012 and in oyster farming areas from August to November in 2013. The obtained sequences showed 99.3~99.5% homology with OsHV-1 ${\mu}var$(Accession Number: HQ842610) and 96.2~96.3% homology with OsHV isolated from Korea(Accession Number: AY509253).

For multi-body dynamic problems. especially coalescent eigenvalue problems with multiobjective optimization, the design sensitivity analysis is too much complicated mathematically and numerically. Therefore, this article proposes a new technique for structural dynamic modification using a mode modification and homologous structures design method with Genetic Algorithm(GA). In this work, the homologous structure of the resiliently mounted multi-body for marine diesel generator systems is studied and the problem is treated as a combinational optimization problem using the GA. In GA formulation, fitness is defined based on penalty function approach. That include homology, allowable stress and minimum weight of common plate.
In recent years, the knowledge about bifidobacteria has considerably evolved thanks to recent progress in molecular biology. The analysis of the whole genome sequences of 48 taxa of bifidobacteria offers new perspectives for their classification, especially to set up limit between two species. Indeed, several species are presenting a high homology and should be reclassified. On the other hand, some subspecies are presenting a low homology and should therefore be reclassified into different species. In addition, a better knowledge of the genome of bifidobacteria allows a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in complex carbohydrate metabolism. The genome of some species of bifidobacteria from human but also from animal origin demonstrates high presence in genes involved in the metabolism of complex oligosaccharides. Those species should be further tested to confirm their potential to metabolize complex oligosaccharides in vitro and in vivo.
Introduced were two biological investigations in which information biology played a significant role. In the first case independent findings in cancer research over a long period were united and organized by information biology and led to the outcome that was subject to a Nobel Prize. The outcome has revealed that the cause of human cancer is located in the genome in a dormant condition. The second case shows how to elucidate the function of an unknown DNA sequence or ORF in prokaryotes by a large - scale computer homology search and analyses. For the elucidation the International DNA Databases and a large - scale computer were two key factors.
The degradative pathway of homoprotocatechuate (HPC) is the bacterial routhe wherby 3,4-dihydrox-yphenylactic acid is catabolized to pyruvate and succinate by a series of sequential reactions . The HPC is catalzed by homoprotocatechuate 2, 3-dioxygenase(HPC-2,3O) to from 5-carboxymethy1-2-hydroxy-muco semialdehyde. In this study, the hha D gene encoding. HPC, 2, 3O was Cloned from the chromo-somal DNA of Pseudomonas sp. DJ-12 and its nucleotide sequence was analyzed. The open reding frame of hpaD gene was found to be composed of 864 nucleotide pairs and to encode a poypetide with 287 amino acide residues. The deduced amino acid sequence of the HPC-2,3O from Pseudomonas. sp. DJ-12 exhibited 60~64% homology with those of the corresponding enzymes from E. coli. Salmonella enterica, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Heteroduplex mobility assay (HMA) and single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP) analyses combined with PCR were developed for genetic differentiation of various phytoplasma isolates. In the HMA and SSCP analyses, differences in the mobility shifts and the SSCP band patterns identified three distinct types of phyto-plasmas: Type Ⅰ, jujube witches'-broom (JWB) and ligustrum witches'-broom (LiWB); Type Ⅱ, mulberry dwarf(MD) and sumac witches'-broom (SuWB); and Type Ⅲ, paulownia witches'-broom (PaWB). Results of the sequence analyses revealed that phytoplasmas of JWB and MD had 100% homology with LiWB and SuWB, respectively. On the other hand, PaWB phyto-plasma had 97.8% homology with MD phytoplasma. The PCR-HMA and SSCP techniques were very useful in determining variations in sequence among several isolates of phytoplasmas. Furthermore, the methods were rapid, economical, highly sensitive, and easy to handle with the gels.
Phylogenetic tree constructed from the nucleotide sequences of the S1 gene showed that the 15 Korean strains of infectious bronchitis virus(IBV) examined were classified into 2 genetically distinct groups, except one respiratory strain, RB86, which was clustered with Massachusetts group. All the 5 respiratory strains belonged to Korean group I and the rest 9 nephropathogenic strains belonged to Korean group II according to the analysis, based on S1 gene sequences. Like previous classifications corresponded with the geographic origin, Korean stains were discriminated from geographically distinct reference strains of IBV. The nephropathogenic strains within Korean group IIsharing 96% homology were continuously isolated since 1990, and seemed to be genetically stable. Whereas the respiratory strains within Korean group Ⅰ sharing 88% homology were sporadically isolate since 1986m and seemed to be genetically unstable. Because we found putative accumulated point mutation as well as recombination events in Korean group Ⅰ, we discussed why genetic variations have often occurred in respiratory strains rather than nephropathognic strains.
We constructed a rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus) gill cDNA library and a total of 1450 expressed sequence tag (EST) clones were generated. Gene annotation procedures and homology searches of the sequenced ESTs were locally done by BLASTX for amino acid similarity comparisons. Of the 1450 EST clones, 1022 EST clones showed significant homology to previously described genes while 428 ESTs were unidentified, and 259 clones were hypothetical, or unnamed proteins. Encoding 313 different sequences were identified as putative bio-defense genes or genes associated with immune response.

We constructed a rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus) liver cDNA library and a total of 1533 expressed sequence tag (EST) clones were generated. Gene annotation procedures and homology searches of the sequenced ESTs were analyzed using BLASTX. Of the 1533 EST clones, 1165 different ESTs showed significant homology to previously described genes while 368 ESTs were unidentified, hypothetical, or unnamed proteins. Encoding 106 different sequences were identified as putative bio-defense genes or genes associated with immune response.
