The hybrid composite materials are recently used in many field as an advanced material due to their high resistance to fracture. However, hybrid composite materials have several problems, especially delamination, compared with homogeneous materials such as an aluminum alloy, etc. In this study, we carried out the tensile test to study the tension failure appearances and tensile ultimate strength of CFRP/Al/CFRP hybrid composite materials. The CFRP material used in the experiment is a commercial material known as CU175NS in unidirectional carbon prepreg. Also Al/CFRP/Al hybrid composites with three kind length of a single edge crack were investigated for the relationship between an aluminium volume fraction and a crack length. The crack length was measured by a traveling microscope under a universal dynamic tester. Futhermore the stress intensity factor behavior was examined according to a volume fraction and an initial crack length ratio to a width.

In-situ quasicrystalline icosahedral (I) phase reinforced Ti-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) matrix composites have been successfully fabricated by using two distinct thermal histories for BMG forming alloy. The BMG composite containing micron-scale Iphase has been introduced by controlling cooling rate during solidification, whereas nano-scale I-phase reinforced BMG composite has been produced by partial crystallization of BMG. For mechanical properties, micron-scale I-phase distributed BMG composite exhibited lower strength and plasticity compared to the monolithic BMG. On the other hand, nano-scale icosahedral phase embedded BMG composite showed enhanced strength and plasticity. These improved mechanical properties were attributed to the multiplication of shear bands and blocking of the shear band propagation in terms of isolation and homogeneous distribution of nanosize icosahdral phases in the glassy matrix, followed by stabilizing the mechanical and deformation instabilities.
Alumina coated SiC whiskers were prepared by homogeneous precipitation of aluminum sulfate. The Si3N4 composites reinforced with coated SiC whiskers were fabricated by hot-pressing at $1800^{\circ}C$ for 2 h under an $N_{2}$ atmosphere of 0.1 MPa to examine the effects of coated whiskers on the mechanical properties of SiC whisker reinforced $Si_{3}N_{4}$ composite. By the addition of alumina coated SiC whiskers instead of as received ones, the fracture toughness of composite was about 6.7 $MPam^{1/2}$ which was slightly lower than as received SiC whisker reinforced composite. This result seems to be caused by the fact that the crack deflection and whisker pull-out were decreased. Thus, alumina coated SiC whiskers were considered to form relatively strong interface bond with $Si_{3}N_{4}$ matrix.
This work aims to study effects of the crack and the surface energy on the free longitudinal vibration of axially functionally graded nanorods. The surface energy parameters considered are the surface stress, the surface density, and the surface Lamé constants. The cracked nanorod is modelled by dividing it into two parts connected by a linear spring in which its stiffness is related to the crack severity. The surface and bulk material properties are considered to vary in the length direction according to the power law distribution. Hamilton's principle is implemented to derive the governing equation of motion and boundary conditions. Considering the surface stress causes that the derived governing equation of motion becomes non-homogeneous while this was not the case in works that only the surface density and the surface Lamé constants were considered. To extract the frequencies of nanorod, firstly the non-homogeneous governing equation is converted to a homogeneous one using an appropriate change of variable, and then for clamped-clamped and clamped-free boundary conditions the governing equation is solved using the harmonic differential quadrature method. Since the present work considers effects of all the surface energy parameters, it can be claimed that this is a comprehensive work in this regard.

Since the details in quasi-homogeneous region will be destroyed from the conventional global image enhancement method such as histogram equalization. This defect is caused by the saturation of gray level in equalization process. So the local histogram equalization for each quasi-homogeneous region will be used in order to improve the details in the region itself. To obtain the quasi- homogeneous regions, the original image must be segmented. Here we applied the watershed transform to the interesting image. Since the watershed transform is based on mathematical morphology, therefore, the regions touch can be effectively separated. Hence two adjacent regions which have the similar gray pixels will be split off. The process will be independently applied to three different spectral images. Then three different colors are assigned to each processed image in order to produce a color composite image. By the proposed algorithm, the result image shows the better perception on image details. Therefore, the high efficiency of image classification can be obtained by using this color image.

The solution of contact problems is extremely important as we encounter many situations involving such problems in our daily lives. One of the most important parameters effective in solving contact problems is the materials of the parts in contact. While it is relatively easy to solve the contact mechanics of the systems created with traditional materials with a homogeneous microstructure and mechanical distribution, it may be more difficult to solve the contact problem of new generation materials that do not show a homogeneous distribution. As a result of this situation, it is seen that studies on contact problems of materials that do not exhibit such a homogeneous internal structure and mechanical properties are extremely limited in the literature. In this context, in this study, analytical and numerical analyzes of a contact problem created using functionally graded materials were carried out and the results were evaluated mutually. It has been decided that the contact areas and contact pressures acquired from numerical method are reasonably appropriate with the results obtained from the analytical method.
The subject of this investigation is to study the buckling of cross-ply laminated orthotropic cylindrical thin shells with variable elasticity moduli and densities in the thickness direction, under external pressure, which is a power function of time. The dynamic stability and compatibility equations are obtained first. These equations are subsequently reduced to a system of time dependent differential equations with variable coefficients by using Galerkin's method. Finally, the critical dynamic and static loads, the corresponding wave numbers, the dynamic factors, critical time and critical impulse are found analytically by applying a modified form of the Ritz type variational method. The dynamic behavior of cross-ply laminated cylindrical shells is investigated with: a) lamina that present variations in the elasticity moduli and densities, b) different numbers and ordering of layers, and c) external pressures which vary with different powers of time. It is concluded that all these factors contribute to appreciable effects on the critical parameters of the problem in question.
The microstructural characteristics of $Al_2$$O_3$/Cu composites hot-pressed at different temperatures for atmosphere switching from $H_2$to Ar have been studied. When the composite atmosphere was switched at $1000^{\circ}C$ it led to more homogeneous microstructure than when the atmosphere was switched at $1450^{\circ}C$. The strong sensitivity of Cu to atmosphere, especially the oxygen content in the atmosphere, was found to be responsible for the observed change, based upon the interfacial phenomena related to the formation of $CuAlO_2$. The practical implication of these results is that an optimum processing condition for the design of homogeneous microstructure and stable properties can be established.
This paper presents a theoretical investigation in free vibration of sigmoid functionally graded beams with variable cross-section by using Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The mechanical properties are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the beam, and obey a two power law of the volume fraction of the constituents. Governing equation is reduced to an ordinary differential equation in spatial coordinate for a family of cross-section geometries with exponentially varying width. Analytical solutions of the vibration of the S-FGM beam are obtained for three different types of boundary conditions associated with simply supported, clamped and free ends. Results show that, all other parameters remaining the same, the natural frequencies of S-FGM beams are always proportional to those of homogeneous isotropic beams. Therefore, one can predict the behaviour of S-FGM beams knowing that of similar homogeneous beams.
The objective of this paper is to study the deformation in a homogeneous isotropic thermoelastic solid using modified couple stress theory subjected to ramp-type thermal source with two temperature. The advantage of this theory is the involvement of only one material length scale parameter which can determine the size effects. Laplace and Fourier transform technique is applied to obtain the solutions of the governing equations. The components of displacement, conductive temperature, stress components and couple stress are obtained in the transformed domain. A numerical inversion technique has been used to obtain the solutions in the physical domain. The effect of two temperature is depicted graphically on the resulted quantities. Numerical results show that the proposed model can capture the size effects of microstructures.
