Pervasive Multi-channel audio systems are being realized due to advances in digital technology. This paper proposes an efficient system that serially connects individual speakers with bidirectional digital communication capability by means of SoC design. In particular, each speaker can identify the bit stream assigned to the speaker and convert it into analog audio. Furthermore, the speaker can self-diagnose the speaker functionality by utilizing the designed capability to measure frequencies of various square wave test signals. The proposed system running on 200MHz clock yielded restoration of analog output signal with latency of only $500{\mu}s$ compared to directly driving the speakers in a traditional way.

We believe that existing wire solutions such as HomePNA2.0 using phone lines and HomePlug using power line and wireless solution such as HomeRF are the most promising solutions, because of its cost-effectiveness. However, MAC protocols of these solutions provide only Class of Service(CoS) using priority mechanism like HomePNA and HomePlug or consider only voice among real-time traffics like HomeRF. For these reasons, we perceive the needs of the new MAC protocol which is no new wire solution and provides guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for not only voice but also video and audio. In light of this, we present the design and software implementation of a new MAC protocol for Home Networks. Our evaluation results of software implementation verify that proposed MAC protocol can provide low delay, low loss, and low jitter to real-time traffic by reserving bandwidth.

In this paper, a video broadcasting system between a home-server-type device and a mobile device is proposed. The home-server-type device can automatically extract semantic information from video contents, such as news, a soccer match, and a baseball game. The indexing results are utilized to convert the original video contents to a digested or arranged format. From the mobile device, a user can make recording requests to the home-server-type devices and can then watch and navigate recorded video contents in a digested form. The novelty of this study is the actual implementation of the proposed system by combining the actual IT environment that is available with indexing algorithms. The implementation of the system is demonstrated along with experimental results of the automatic video indexing algorithms. The overall performance of the developed system is compared with existing state-of-the-art personal video recording products.

Standby power is progressively important in the developed countries including Korea. The status of standby power of korean home electronic wares has been unknown. In this paper, standby power consumption of home electronics in Korea has been firstly surveyed and reported. Over 800 pieces of electrical equipments that consume standby power in 53 households were investigated. The average standby power per equipment and total standby power per household were 3.66W and 57.0W, respectively. It was revealed that Audio systems and network appliances such as xDSL modem, set-top box generally consume high standby power.

This paper shows an implementation of WLAN-based Audio/Video(A/V) system for multimedia home networks. Proposed WLAN-based A/V system can transmit multimedia data of high quality. The entire system consists of a 16-bit RISC controller, a program ROM, a SRAM, timers, an interrupt controller, a DART, GPIOs, an I2C and the OFDM modem supporting for the IEEE 802.11g standard. The simple MAC functions are implemented by firmware on an embedded 16-bit RISC controller. The OFDM modem supports a complete set of data rates up to 54Mbps. Proposed the system is implemented by an Altera FPGA EP1S60F1020C6 device, a 10-bit 2-ch DAC, a 10-bit 2-ch ADC and RF/IF chips.

유비쿼터스 환경에서의 일반 사용자를 위한 흠 네트워크의 실현은 다양한 가전 제품군의 홈 네트워크 미들웨어들이 표준화되고 상용 장비에도 장착이 되어 실용화된다. 흠 네트워크 환경에서 UpnP (Universal Plug and P1ay) HAVI (Home audio/video interoperability) HNCP(Home Network Control Protocol)등과 같은 개별 단체 표준 미들웨어들을 탑재하고 있는 이종 정보가전기기들 간의 상호연동성을 제공하고，홈 네트워크 미들웨어들을 쉽게 수용하기 위해서 Universal Middleware Bridge 시스템 규격을 ITA 표준안에서 정의하였다. TTA의 Universal Middleware Bridge(UMB)를 표준화로 제안되고 있는 범용 미들웨어 브릿지(UMB)는，SOAP/HTTP 기반의 UMB 메시지 전송/수신 기능을 가지고 있는 Universal Middleware Bridge Core(UMB-C)와 접속 설정 기능과 UMB 메시지를 수신，해석，생성，전송하는 기능을 가지고 있는 Universal Middleware Bridge Adaptor(UMB-A)로 구성 된다. UMB 메시지는 3가지 범주로 분류된 메커니즘이 있다. 첫 번째는 미들혜어의 접속과 해제에 관련된 메커니즘이고，두 번째는 장치 접속/해제에 관한 메커니즘이며，세 번째는 장치에 대한 제어/감시/이벤트에 관한 메커니즘이 있다. 본 논문에서는 미들웨어 운영 메커니즘에 서비스 품질 패키지，경고 메시지에 대한 메커니즘을 추가 설계하였다.

Due to a development of a modem technology as Power Line Communication(PLC) over 200 Mbps, the high-speed multi-media data trasmission could be currently possible. In This paper we develop a high quality media transmitter-receiver based on merging the HomePlug AV, which is 200 Mbps class PLC technology and HDMI Interface technology. Smart Live 6 software were used for the assessment of audio property. As the result of measurement of the HD class images by capturing from the receiver of the PLC, the quality of images couldn't be confirm any deterioration, which has compared with original reflections. In case of audio part as the result of confirmation of the Phase, Magnitude, it has been confirmed that over 90% of nomal transmition and receiving of acoustic signal.

This paper suggests an algorithm that can estimate the direction of the sound source in realtime. Our intelligent service robot, WEVER, is used to implement the proposed method at the home environment. The algorithm uses the time difference and sound intensity information among the recorded sound source by four microphones. Also, to deal with noise of robot itself, the kalman filter is implemented. The proposed method takes shorter execution time than that of an existing algorithm to fit the real-time service robot. The result shows relatively small error within the range of ${\pm}$ 7 degree.

In this paper, we designed an embedded audio video bridging (AVB) platform based on IEEE 802.1BA for real-time multimedia transmission in smart-car, smart-home, smart-theater, and then evaluated a performance of the implemented platform by analysis of IEEE 802.1AS (time synchronization protocol) and IEEE 802.1Qat (stream reservation protocol). Especially, the AVB Layer-2 protocol of MRP(Multiple Registration Protocol), MMAP(Multicast Address Acquisition Protocol), IEEE 1722, 1722.1 etc. was and implemented by linux based operating system. It is shown by interoperability tests with commercial products that the implemented platform transmits real-time multichannel AV data over AVB networks for Multichannel Multimedia Transmission.

The goals of this research are for producing and optimizing the CD-ROM, effective and practical Teaching-Learning method. It consists of Wearing Korean Traditional Costume for the First Grade of Middle School Students in Home Economics Teaching. This research’s summarization is following. First, the multi-media material. CD-ROM making use of Powerpoint. Wearing Korean Traditional Costume, is produced to help the students learn the difficult contents in terms of video and audio. Second, it is introduced the model of Open Education for increasing the efficiency of class. Third, it is developed to proceed the class with the CD-ROM and small group study of place activity. Fourth, it helps students concentrate on the class with proper sound effect whenever the slide films are changed. And it helps to link the web sites related to Korean Traditional Costume. Finally, another kinds of suggestions are following. The effective verification of this software that is tested and applied at the field for a given period will be necessary. And, it is necessary to upgrade for the CD-ROM and the supplementary teaching materials in Korean Traditional Costume education.
