The survey was conducted to 130 alternative school students and 241 general school students in Gyeonggi province. In students' satisfaction on their school, there is appeared the highest at 'average'(38.6%) in general schools and 'satisfied'(40.8%) in alternative schools, showing that those in alternative schools have greater satisfaction on their schools(p<0.001). In the degree of recognition on Home Economics curriculum, the perception as an 'important subject' was average of 3.08/5 points in general school and 3.32/5 points in alternative school, indicating that the recognition in alternative schools was higher than general ones(p<0.05). Also, degree of satisfaction on practice and lecture class was higher in alternative than general schools. However, it was found that the use of audiovisual learning material in alternative schools was much smaller than that of general ones, and the former had poor facilities and practice labs. Regarding degrees of interest in Home Economics curriculum, 'average'(36.9%) in general school and 'rather interested in the subject'(38.5%) in alternative schools were most common. About the opinion that they needed to learn Home Economics subject, the answer 'it is needed' was 67.6% in general schools and 79.2% in alternative ones, presenting that the students in alternative schools more felt the need to learn the subject(p<0.05). Regarding the comparison of interest level for each area in Home Economics curriculum according to gender, there was only difference on the area of 'preparation and management for clothing'. On the area, the degree of interest was higher in girls than boys at all the schools(p<0.05). Therefore, in alternative schools, it is suggested that various uses of audiovisual learning materials at teaching and expansion of practice facilities should be provided and created desirable Home Economics class. Also in general schools, it is urgent that countermeasures to increase the practice classes are established in order to improve interest and satisfaction of Home Economics education.

Given this base, we performed a survey with people who majored in home economics education and elementary school teachers on how green growth education related to their education. We studied applied cases and performed a survey by open-ended questions that extracts the green growth education content. In synthesizing the results of these studies so far, we have concluded that home economics education is much related to green growth education, and that with a change of people's conceptions when relating school life to household life, home economics can be a very useful subject that can lead to the practice of the green growth education.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the training system and current status of home health nurses and to examine ways to retain sufficient number of advanced practice nurses (APNs) in the home health nursing field. Methods: This study analyzed the adequacy of the supply of home health nurse by reviewing the existing research literature and statistical data. Results: Discussions on how to revitalize the home care business have been ongoing since the beginning of 2001. However, despite home health nurses being oversupplied, discussions on the adequacy of supply have always been excluded from the focus of revitalization. The recent expansion of the home care business has resulted in a shortage of workforce, which can be inked not only to the continuous reduction of the designated quota of programs but also to the regional imbalance of educational institutions. The serious imbalance between supply and demand has caused fears that the home care business would drastically reduce. Conclusion: It is necessary to not only increase designated quotas for APNs programs but also integrate those programs of the similar curricula, thus lowering supply shortages in home health nurses.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a home health care model in the public health system and to test the effectiveness of the model. Seven com-munity health practitioners in Yon- Cheon county. Kyunggi province, carried out home health care service for this research. The subjects of the home health care were a total of 111 community residents with chronic health problems and risk-prone infants and children; 29 persons with hypertension, 18 persons with diabetes, 12 persons with neurologic problems, 12 elderly, and 40 infants and children. During the period of study, from December, 1993 to March, 1995, a demonstrative home health care model was developed in the Yon-Cheon County community health centers with the cooperation of the Yon-Cheon Medical Center and Yon-Cheon Public Health Center for the first six months. A home care practice manual and recording system for home visits were also co-developed by the researchers and community health practitioners. Four workshops and monthly conferences were held for this purpose. Actual home care practice took place for two months, and on-going evaluation and replanning accompanied this process. The result of the evaluation of home care service were as follows. 1) For persons with hypertension, diabetes, neurologic problems, there was significant improvement in knowledge of disease and care, but no significant difference was seen in health behavior or symptoms after home care service. 2) No significant difference was seen in level of self esteem or depression after reminiscence therapy among 12 elderly subjects. 3) There were significant differences in satis-faction toward child rearing and parental sup-port, but no significant difference In education needs for parental role after home care service among parents of infants and children. 4) There was significant improvement in the quality of life among the subjects after the home care service. 5) Subjects responded that they were highly satisfied with the home care service given by the community health practitioners. Although, the actual implementation period was very short, and not all of the evaluation outcomes showed significant improvement, the home health care model of community health practitioners was, in general, positively evaluated. Through this re-search, the possibility of community health practitioners working as active home care personnel in the public health care system is supported. Further research with an expanded area and subjects for a longer period is recommended. Cost effectiveness research is also needed.

Results: There were significant differences in professional self-concept according to application motivation (F=5.43, p=.006), school record (F=3.24, p=.043), major satisfaction (t=-6.38, p<.001), desired occupation (F=9.30, p<.001), participant health status (F=4.31, p=.016), character (F=25.29, p<.001), clinical practice satisfaction (t=-5.36, p<.001), and change of thinking about career path after clinical practice (t=2.78, p=.006). Professional self-concept showed significant correlations with clinical practice stress (r=-0.37, p<.001) and resilience (r=0.66, p<.001). The variables affecting nursing students' professional self-concept were resilience (β=.38, p<.001), character (β=.32, p<.001), major satisfaction (β=.28, p<.001), and clinical practice stress (β=-.18, p=.007); the explanatory power was 65%. Conclusion: A professional self-concept enhancement program should be developed to promote the establishment of a positive professional self-concept in nursing students.
