The study investigated the effects of differences in some electronic course designs on university students' Computational Thinking Skills (CTS). Towards this end, the researcher adopted the experimental research design of a quasi-experimental of two experimental groups. The first group was taught an e-course designed in a sequential pattern, and the other group's course was designed according to the holistic model. A CTSs test was prepared to collect the relevant data, and the data were analyzed statistically using these tests- Pearson correlation Mann Whitney and Alpha Cronbach. Results revealed statistically-significant differences at the level α=0.05 between the mean scores of the first and second experimental groups in favor of the latter in the CTS test. The findings gave ground to put forward some salient recommendations, including the need to expand computational thinking in universities' educational process. It also recommends urging faculty members to enhance e-courses in the educational process and provide technical support to students and faculty members.
The pre-treatment of natural gas to remove $H_2S$ and $CO_2$ before liquefaction in natural gas processing is required, and amine-based absorption processes are widely used in gas processing. The current study aims to model amine-based absorption process and to find cost-effective design through systematic analysis of energy systems, together with column design. Different design options for absorber and stripper are investigated in a holistic manner, and heat integration technique has been applied to investigate how design of columns is interacted with energy efficiency for the pre-treatment process considered. Case study has been presented to demonstrate the applicability of heat integration method for improving energy efficiency in practice.
Systems thinking, a linking domain of health systems science (HSS), is an approach that investigates specific problems from a holistic perspective. It supports improving patients' health, fulfilling their health needs, and anticipating issues that threaten patient safety within the healthcare system. It also helps solve problems through critical thinking and ref lection. This study aimed to develop an curriculum on systems thinking, explore the effectiveness of the course, and investigate the applicability of HSS education at individual universities. In this study, the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model was utilized to design, develop, implement, and evaluate an elective course on systems thinking. In the design process, learning outcomes and goals were developed, and educational content, teaching-learning methods, and student evaluation methods were linked. In the development process, class materials and evaluation materials were prepared. In the implementation process, the course was implemented, and the evaluation process analyzed the results of learning performance and curriculum assessments. The evaluation found the following results. First, the students in the study realized the importance of systems thinking and experienced the need for systems thinking through non-medical and medical situations. Second, the students were very satisfied with the learning activities in the course (mean=4.84), and the results of the self-competence evaluation, conducted before and after the course, also showed a significant improvement. This study confirmed the effectiveness of the elective course, and its results can serve as a reference for developing an HSS curriculum.
The proper functioning of critical points on transport infrastructure is decisive for the entire network. Tunnels and bridges certainly belong to the critical points of the surface transport network, both road and rail. Risk management should be a holistic and dynamic process throughout the entire life cycle. However, the level of risk is usually determined only during the design stage mainly due to the fact that it is a time-consuming and costly process. This paper presents a simplified quantitative risk analysis method that can be used any time during the decades of a tunnel's lifetime and can estimate the changing risks on a continuous basis and thus uncover hidden safety threats. The presented method is a decision support system for tunnel managers designed to preserve or even increase tunnel safety. The CAPITA method is a deterministic scenario-oriented risk analysis approach for assessment of mortality risks in road tunnels in case of the most dangerous situation - a fire. It is implemented through an advanced risk analysis CAPITA SW. Both, the method as well as the resulting software were developed by the authors' team. Unlike existing analyzes requiring specialized microsimulation tools for traffic flow, smoke propagation and evacuation modeling, the CAPITA contains comprehensive database with the results of thousands of simulations performed in advance for various combinations of variables. This approach significantly simplifies the overall complexity and thus enhances the usability of the resulting risk analysis. Additionally, it provides the decision makers with holistic view by providing not only on the expected risk but also on the risk's sensitivity to different variables. This allows the tunnel manager or another decision maker to estimate the primary change of risk whenever traffic conditions in the tunnel change and to see the dependencies to particular input variables.

As the concurrent engineering concept has emerged along with the support of optimization techniques, lots of endeavors have been made to apply optimization techniques to actual design problems for a holistic decision. Even if the range of design problems which the optimization is applicable to has been extended, most of ship designs still remain in an iterative approach due to the difficulties of seamless integration of all related design activities. In this approach, an entire design problem is divided into many sub-problems and carried out by many different disciplines through complicated internal interactions. This paper focuses on preliminary ship design process. This paper proposes a process centric integrated framework as the first step to establish a workflow based design process management system. The framework consists of two parts; a schedule management part to support a manager to monitor current progress status and adjust current schedule, and a process management part to assist a design to effectively perform a series of design activities by following a predefined procedure. Overall system are decomposed into modules according to the target to be managed in each module. Appropriate interactions between the decomposed modules are designed to achieve a consistency of the entire system. Design process model is also designed on a thorough analysis of actual ship design practice. The proposed framework will be embodied using a commercial workflow package.

Ethnography, a major research method in Anthropology, has been recently applied in human-centered design research. Since ethnography has empirical, naturalistic, holistic and eclectic characteristics, it is needed a guideline to apply ethnography into design research in accordance with a characteristic of project. Design project in which ethnography is applied can be categorized by two criteria; degree of newness of project goal(existing user-potential user) and limitedness of worksite(site-oriented-work-oriented). Among work-site activities, technology in use, and user group culture, it should be decided which content to content to focus more than others and thus what kinds of research techniques to apply in the ethnographic research.Case study was to design an interior of a Korean express train. This project is site-oriented and has an existing-potential users. Therefore, video ethnography was effectively applied to obtain chronological data of activity potential users. Therefore, video ethnography was effectively applied to obtain chronological data of activity flow, and participant observation was applied to obtain statistical data of synchronous activities. Case study shows a concrete process example of how to apply ethnography into design research.

This study touched on the effect of the different electronic course designs on the programming skills of university students. The researcher used the experimental research design of a quasi-experimental of two experimental groups to achieve the objectives of the study. The first group underwent an electronic course designed in the holistic pattern, and the second group was taught a course in a sequential pattern. This experimental design was intended to measure the impact of these two learning modes on the learners' cognitive and performance achievement of programming skills. An achievement test and observational form were the data collection tools. Data were analyzed statistically using Pearson correlation, Mann Whitney Test, and Alpha Cronbach. The findings revealed statistically- significant differences between the mean scores of the students of the first and second experimental groups in favor of the former concerning the observational form and the latter in the cognitive test. Based on the findings, some recommendations are suggested. Due to their effectiveness in the educational process, expanding using the e-courses at universities is vital. The university teachers are highly recommended to design e-courses and provide technical and material support to the e-courses user to fulfill their design purpose.
A large body of previous studies investigated mathematical tasks by analyzing the design process prior to lessons or textbooks. While researchers have revealed the significant roles of mathematical tasks within written curricular, there has been a call for studies about how mathematical tasks are implemented or what is experienced and learned by students as enacted curriculum. This article proposes a mathematical task analytic framework based on a holistic definition of tasks encompassing both written tasks and the process of task enactment. We synthesized the features of the mathematical tasks and developed a task analytic framework with multiple dimensions: breadth, depth, bridging, openness, and interaction. We also applied the scoring rubric to analyze three multiplication tasks to illustrate the framework by its five dimensions. We illustrate how a series of tasks are analyzed through the framework when students are engaged in multiplicative thinking. The framework can provide important information about the qualities of planned tasks for mathematics instruction (proactive) and the qualities of implemented tasks during instruction (reactive). This framework will be beneficial for curriculum designers to design rich tasks with more careful consideration of how each feature of the tasks would be attained and for teachers to transform mathematical tasks with the provision of meaningful learning activities into implementation.
This study is purposed to prepare students in theological universities so that they contribute to their faith community as well as the broader social community in future through developing a practical course model for education of character formation. Facing the challenge of a high-tech revolution being progressed globally in this period, theological seminaries as the Christian-affiliated institute of higher education see the necessity to nurture their learners' competency of holistic personality comprehending cognitive, affective, behavioral, and more spiritual maturity as well as specialty in each subject matter. The holistic character capability of seminarians is closely related not only to their own self-realization, but also social community's well-being. This research had the following content and results. Chapter 1 brought up a subject to educational needs of the holistic character formation in the theological seminaries to meet the rapidly changing times. Chapter 2 considered the importance of character formation in the curriculum of the universities and theological seminaries in the times of high-tech revolution through the literature reviews related to. Chapter 3 clarified the elements of character education to be placed emphasis on theological seminaries and established the way of course planning. Chapter 4, using a course of Christian social education for illustration, described in order the whole process of course planning comprehending the need of planning, description of course concept, establishment and definition of learning outcomes, organization of learning experience(course content), teaching-learning activities, evaluation of learning outcome, and course improvement, which was visualized with the chart of the process of course design. Also, it provided a practical illustration of the conceptual map, an outline of content and an organization of units, and scope-sequence chart. Finally, chapter 5 gave an syllabus example in an integrative and digestive form as the course plan to be distributed to the students, which is the final result produced through the whole process of course planning. This research is intended not to present a overall curriculum planning of the university-level in the theological seminaries, but to develop a course-level curriculum focused on the formation of character. The author hope that this study would be used as a guideline in developing a course model to nurture the capability of the learners' holistic character.

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is an integrated business approach to manage the creation and distribution of product information throughout the product development process. From the product perspective, PLM encompasses a holistic approach to product development and product information management. It supports the integrated product information in conjunction with the efficient product structures and BOM (Bill Of Material), user interfaces, proper functions, design processes and enterprise integration. Therefore, PLM should not only satisfy required functions as an enterprise software but also offer a systematic method for the efficient application from the initial stage of its development. Recently, many shipyards have been considering the PLM as a strategic solution to get the efficient management of product information such as 3-D models, BOM, drawings, documents, and the other product data. Though many studies on PLM are performed, most of them are performed in a function-based approach adequate for mass productive assembly industries. It could not help having limitations on applying the proper PLM system to the shipbuilding business since the requirements of shipbuilding PLM are too diverse and huge to design the architecture. This study presents the PLM framework which effectively reflects the diverse requirements of shipbuilding PLM. In order to get the macroscopic architecture of shipbuilding PLM, authors suggest the four-tier architecture model which considers the various requirements collected from shipyards. Entities of ship design data are modeled BOM in terms of product structure and hierarchical class diagram. Applicable functions of shipbuilding PLM are also investigated by analysis of issues of ship design. Finally, by reflecting the design process of shipbuilding, To-Be ship design procedure cooperated with the suggested PLM framework has been summarized.
