A Deburring Characteristics of Small Punching Holes using Micro Press (마이크로 프레스에 의한 미세 펀칭 홀의 디버링 특성)

  • In micro hole punching process the burr occurs inevitably, but the burr must be minimized in order to improve the quality and accuracy of the product. In this study, magnetic field-assisted polishing technique is applied to remove the burr which exists in nozzles for ink-jet printer head and proved to be a feasible for deburring by experiment. The deburring characteristics of sheet metals was investigated changing with polishing time and magnetic abrasive size. After the deburring, the burr size has remarkably reduced and roundness of the hole also has improved.

  • On this study, technical aspects were reviewed to drill a series of micro holes (${\phi}$0.10) over 200 within a few micron tolerance in diameter and position on the stainless steel material. Dedicated tools & jigs were designed and manufactured and optimum cutting conditions were found. On this micro hole drilling process, guide drill and step feeding were applied to help chip discharge, prevent drill breakage and finally improve the accuracy of positioning and roundness. The processing results indicated that most holes are distributed within a few micron tolerance in diameter and position intervals.

  • The HDM(Hole Drilling Method) is a relatively simple and accurate methods in measuring residual stress of weldment. Various method of evaluating residual stress are studied in welding field. The method of cutting holes on the plate much affects the accuracy of result. Especially for the hard material like stainless which is difficult to cut preciously is difficult to measure residual stress of weldment. Because heat conduction of strainless steel is lower than other general steel, the magnitude of residual stress might be different as to changing of welding conditions. Therefore, the distribution of residual stress on the STS304 steel after welding using HDM is evaluated in this paper.

  • Ultrasonic machining is a non-thermal, non-chemical, md non-electorial material removal process, and thus results in minimum modifications in mechanical properties of the brittle material during the process. Also, ultrasonic machining is a non-contact process that utilize ultrasonic vibration to impact a brittle material. In this research characteristics of micro-hole machining for brittle materials by ultrasonic machining(USM) process have been investigated. And the effect of ultrasonic vibration on the machining conditions is analyzed when machining fir non-conductive brittle materials using tungsten carbide tools with a view to improve form and machining accuracy.

  • A knowloedge of the residual stress distribution at circumferential welds can increase the prediction accuracy of a fracture assessment in pipe lines. In this study, in order to predict the residual stress distribution in the circumferential butt-welded pipes were measured, using the hole-drilling strain gauge method. Their practical applications were performed in to two kinds of pipes. As the results, the following characteristics were found. On the inner surface of pipes, the circumferential and axial residual stresses were both tensile near the center line of welding and both of them changed from tensile to compressive as the distance from the center line increased. On the outer surface, however, the circumferential residual stress was shown to be tensile wile the axial residual stress was compressive near the center line of welding, and later they were revered at the region far away from the centerline.

Prediction of Surface Roughness in Hole Machining Using an Endmill (엔드밀을 활용한 홀 가공 시 표면거칠기 예측에 관한 연구)

  • Helical machining is an efficient method for machining holes using an endmill. In this study, a surface roughness prediction model was constructed for improving the productivity of hole machining. Experiments were conducted to form holes by the helical machining of AL6061-T4 aluminum sheets and correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationships between the variables based on the measured results. Meanwhile, a regression analysis technique was used to construct and evaluate the prediction model. Through these analyses, the parameter which has the greatest influence on the surface roughness when the hole is formed by the helical machining is the feed, followed by the number of revolutions of the endmill. Moreover, for the axial feed of the endmill, it was concluded that the influence of the surface roughness is small compared to the other two parameters but it is a factor worth considering to improve the accuracy when constructing the predictive model.

  • The paper concerns an experimental study of fully developed laminar flow of a Newtonian and non-Newtonian liquid in concentric annuli with combined bulk axial flow and inner cylinder rotation. Pressure losses and skin friction coefficients have been measured for Newtonian fluid, water and non-Newtonian fluids, 0.2% aqueous of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and 5% bentonite solutions, when the inner cylinder rotates at the speed of $0{\sim}500$ rpm. The influences of rotation, radius ratio and working fluid on the annular flow field are investigated. And the new correlations among the skin friction coefficient, the Reynolds number and the Rossby number are presented with reasonable limits of accuracy in laminar flow regime.

The Stress Concentration Caused by Pin-hole in Femur after Computer-navigated Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Finite Element Analysis (컴퓨터 네비게이션을 이용한 슬관절 전치환술에서 핀 홀에 의한 응력 집중: 유한요소해석)

  • Total knee arthroplasty(TKA) using computer-assisted navigation has been increased in order to improve the accuracy of femoral and tibial components implantation. Recently, a few clinical studies have reported on the femoral stress fracture after TKA using computer-assisted navigation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the stress concentration around the femoral pin-hole for different pin-hole diameter, the modes of pin penetration by finite element analysis to understand the effects of pin-hole parameters on femoral stress fracture risk. A three-dimensional finite element model of a male femur was reconstructed from 1 mm thick computed tomography(CT) images. The bone was rigidly fixed to a 25 mm above the distal end and 1500 N of axial compressive force and 12 Nm of axial torsion were applied at the femoral head. For all cases, transcortical pin penetration mode showed the highest stress fracture risk and unicortical pin penetration mode showed the lowest stress concentration. Pin-hole diameter increased the stress concentration, but pin number did not increase the stress dramatically. The results of this study provided a biomechanical guideline for pin-hole fracture risk of the computer navigated TKA.

Calibration of a Five-Hole Pressure Probe using a Single Sector Error Interpolation Model (단일영역 오차보간 모델을 이용한 5-Hole Pressure Probe의 교정)

  • A new calibration method for five-hole pressure probe is presented. This method provides accuracies better than those based on the traditional regression method. The calibration algorithm uses a single sector interpolation response surface calculated by comparing the regression curve fits with the actual calibration data. A five-hole pressure probe with hemispherical tip was fabricated and calibrated at Reynolds number of $4.11{\times}10^6$/m and flow angle of ${\pm}48$ degrees. Two data prediction models, the least-square regression and a single sector error interpolation, were evaluated. The comparison of these two calibration methods to a five-hole probe is described and discussed. An evaluation of the calibration accuracy is also given.
