Rapid Manufacturing of 3D Micro-products using UV Laser Ablation and Phase-change Filling

  • UV laser micromachining is generally used to create microstructures for micro-products through a sequence of lithography-based photo-patterning steps. However, the micromachining process is not suitable for rapid realization of complex 3D micro-products because it depends on worker experience. In addition, the cost and time required to make many masks are excessive. In this paper, a more effective and rapid micro-manufacturing process, which was developed based on laser micromachining, is proposed for fabricating micro-products directly using UV laser ablation and phase-change filling. The filling process is useful for holding the micro-products during the ablation step. The proposed rapid micro-manufacturing process was demonstrated experimentally by fabricating 3D micro-products from functional UV-sensitive polymers using 3D CAD data.

  • The bio-micro pin has been usually used for the biochemistry analysis. The manufacturing capability of the micro-pin and the their array with the effective and low-cost way is very important and it gives great economical benefits to developers. The micro-pin is composed of the sample channel for holding the liquid with the fixed volume, the flat tip which determines the printing quality and the pin head for preventing the rotation of the pin in the holder. In this study, we have manufactured newly designed micro-pins by the wire-EDM process with special jigs, and analyzed liquid holding and printing characteristics with respect to the variation of the shape and the tip size of the micro-pin.

필름 인서트 사출성형 평판의 휨 변형에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Warpage of a Film Insert Molded Plate)

  • FIM(Film Insert Molding) is an innovative method of producing decorated parts for a wide range of products. Because it requires fewer steps when compared to conventional production methods, the time and cost of manufacturing high quality components can be reduced considerably. In this paper, the effects of processing conditions on the warpage of film-insert molded plate were investigated by using a design of experiments. The dominant factors affecting warpage were mold temperature and holding pressure. Warpage increased with the temperature difference between stationary mold and fixed one. Even when the mold temperature difference was zero, the plate with a film was bent after ejection such that the film side protruded. As holding pressure increased, warpage decreased significantly. In addition warpage increased with time increment for the film-insert molded plates.

Meta-Heuristic Algorithms for a Multi-Product Dynamic Lot-Sizing Problem with a Freight Container Cost

  • Lot sizing and shipment scheduling are two interrelated decisions made by a manufacturing plant and a third-party logistics distribution center. This paper analyzes a dynamic inbound ordering problem and shipment problem with a freight container cost, in which the order size of multiple products and single container type are simultaneously considered. In the problem, each ordered product placed in a period is immediately shipped by some freight containers in the period, and the total freight cost is proportional to the number of containers employed. It is assumed that the load size of each product is equal and backlogging is not allowed. The objective of this study is to simultaneously determine the lot-sizes and the shipment schedule that minimize the total costs, which consist of production cost, inventory holding cost, and freight cost. Because the problem is NP-hard, we propose three meta-heuristic algorithms: a simulated annealing algorithm, a genetic algorithm, and a new population-based evolutionary meta-heuristic called self-evolution algorithm. The performance of the meta-heuristic algorithms is compared with a local search heuristic proposed by the previous paper in terms of the average deviation from the optimal solution in small size problems and the average deviation from the best one among the replications of the meta-heuristic algorithms in large size problems.

  • 전개형 우주 구조물의 구속 및 분리를 위해 일반적으로 적용되는 폭발식 분리장치의 경우, 극초소형 위성으로 분류되는 큐브위성에는 적용불가가 설계요구조건으로 규정되어있다. 큐브위성의 제한된 장착 공간과 이로 인한 저충격 요구조건, 저가의 개발비 등의 요구조건으로부터 일반적으로 적용이 용이한 나일론선 열선절단방식이 적용되고 있다. 하지만 나일론선 적용에 따른 낮은 체결력과 복수 구조물의 구속/분리를 위해 복수의 체결부와 열선을 필요로 하는 등 시스템 복잡화 및 신뢰도 저하의 문제점이 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 상기의 문제점 해결을 위해 힌지 구동형 분리너트를 적용한 구속분리장치를 제안하였으며, 인증시험 온도범위에서의 분리장치 동작 기능시험, 정하중 시험, 충격레벨 측정시험을 통해 설계의 유효성을 입증하였다.

Two-Level 전압 인가에 의한 전자접촉기 구동 전력 저감 (Reduce Power of Magnetic Contactor using the Two-Level Apply Voltage)

  • Currently, due to the rapid increase in power demand and the increase in capacity of power converters, the capacity of electromagnetic contactors is also increasing, and the burden on SMPS for the power that can drive them is increasing. Although the initial starting operation current of an electromagnetic contactor is significantly larger than the holding current for maintaining contact, most electromagnetic contactors apply the same voltage as the initial starting operation. An electromagnetic contactor must continuously apply a holding current to maintain the contact point, and the larger the capacity, the larger the current must be applied. This paper proposes a two-level magnetic contactor drive that allows setting the initial starting operation current to fully attach the contact point of the magnetic contactor and the holding current to maintain subsequent operation. In addition, a low-cost drive topology of analog and digital methods was proposed for various field applications, and an algorithm based on the ripple of the excitation current was proposed to determine whether the magnetic contactor was opened or closed without using a separate contact point. The feasibility of the proposed method was proven through Psim simulation experiments.

  • The location decision problem for distribution center is one of the most important problem in business logistics system. Because the proportion of holding and transportation cost to physical distribution cost in our country exceed the 60%, a corporation must feel strong pressure to investigate the location problem for distribution center. This paper presents an algorithm for determining the best location of distribution center in consideration with physical distribution cost, demand, and customer location. The methods of determining the distribution center location is that firstly many of proposed sites are built up where demand position is distributed, and then optimal location of distribution center is selected.

  • This paper considers an integrated inventory-distribution system with a fleet of heterogeneous vehicles employed where a single warehouse distributes a single type of products to many spatially distributed retailers to satisfy their dynamic demands and the product is provided to the warehouse via procurement ordering from any manufacturing plant or market The Problem is formulated as an Mixed Integer Programming with the objective function of minimizing the sum of inventory holding cost (at the warehouse and retailers), and transportation cost and procurement ordering cost at the warehouse, subject to inventory-balancing constraints, ordering constraints, vehicle capacity constraints and transportation time constraints. The problem is Proven to be NP-hard. Accordingly, a Lagrangean heuristic procedure is derived and tested for its effectiveness through computational experiments with some numerical instances.

  • In this paper, we find optimal policy for the (Q, r) inventory model under the lead time uncertainty. The (Q, r) inventory model is such that the fixed order quantity Q is placed whenever the level of on hand stock reaches the reorder point r. We first develop the single level inventory model as the basis for the analysis multi-level distribution systems. The functional problem is to determine when and how much to order in order to minimize the expected total cost per unit time, which includes the set up, inventory holding and inventory shortage cost. The model, then, is extended to the multi-level distribution system consisting of the factory, warehouses and retailers. In this case, we also find an optimal policy which minimizes the total cost of the contralized multi-level distribution system.

안정상태 시뮬레이션의 다수측도 동시추정 (Simultaneous Inference in Steady-State Simulation)

  • In many real-world simulation studies the several measures of performance are of interest simultaneously. There exist very limited number of studies that explain and suggest the methods or procedures of inferencing the system performances at the same time. This study presents a procedure for determining the number of simulation observations required to achieve the prespecified confidence level for several measures of system performance. Mean values are selected as the measures, for instance, expected ordering cost, expected holding cost, and expected shortage cost for a given period of time in the study of inventory problems. Basically, the batch means approach is applied and extended to develop an algorithm to carry out the procedure handling more than single parameter. The efficacy of the presented method is assessed through the experiments. The empirical results based on some stochastic systems such as queues and inventory problems show that the suggested method produces as excellent result in terms of the precision of estimated means and the number of observations required.
