  • In baseball game, the hitting ability of batter is frequently assessed by a batting average, a run batted in, a home run, a run scored, an on-base percentage, etc. Recently, more comprehensive indicators such as OPS, ISO, SECA, TA, RC and XR are often used. But, these measures generally shows large deviations since they are calculated from the data for a certain period of time, and they are not an estimate of a population parameter, either. In this paper, we will presume the pure hitting ability of the korea professional baseball players as a parameter which is depend upon at bat. We will estimate the parameter by using the Bayesian method.

  • The enemy will attempt to destroy our troop's core facilities using various fire supports at the beginning of war. Among these fire supports, artillery is given a most deal of weight and mine artillery is a great threat to our troops because it has a superior predominance on the ability of survival. A study about hitting mine artillery has been developed inside the military field only. However, these studies had been mostly qualitative analyses, thus having limitations in the aspects of nonobjectiveness and simplicity. Current study attempts to develop theory on hitting mine artillery beginning from mine opening until the target got hit, based on the assumption that one side which has inferior force will attack first. We studied on hitting mine artillery in a quantitative way using DEVS method.

  • In this paper I investigate whether Korean-speaking children know the basic meaning of reciprocal anaphors like each other. I further examine whether they have knowledge of subtle differences in the interpretations of such anaphors depending on the two types of verbs. Fiengo and Lasnik (1973) pointed out a contrast between reciprocal sentences with active verbs and stative verbs. For example, a sentence with an active verb like The men in the room are hitting each other, has both a strong reciprocal reading (i.e., everyone of them in the room is hitting every other one) and a weak reciprocal reading (i.e., certain pairs of men are not engaged in the action of hitting each other). In contrast, a sentence with a stative verb like The men in the room know each other allows only a strong reciprocal reading (i.e., everyone of them know every other one). 16 Korean children and 15 Korean adults were tested using the Truth Value Judgment Task methodology. The results of the present study show that like English children, Korean children know the meaning of reciprocal anaphor, and that they also know the semantic difference of reciprocal sentences with active and stative verbs. Therefore, the present study strongly supports the claim that the semantic distinction of reciprocal sentences with active and stative verbs may be universal, and that children's ability of this semantic distinction might be innately given.

  • Among lots of sabermetric statistics for baseball batters' ability, the wins above replacement (WAR) is the most popular statistic in MLB. However, there exists a difficulty applying WAR to KBO, since KBO data do not have position adjustment, league adjustment and park factor which are essential in calculating WAR. In this paper, using five statistics for both KBO and MLB qualified batters, we propose hitting ability index (HAI), an alternative sabermetric indices to represent batters' ability. Comparing HAI with WAR of MLB batters, we evaluate the validity of HAI and then applied HAI to 2015 KBO data in which HAI is analyzed statistically with respect to different teams, ages, and positions. Moreover, the linear relationship between KBO batter's HAI and their annual salary is discussed. Grouping 46 KBO batters based on confidence region of the regression model for annual salary, we also statistically investigate batter's annual salary in these groups with respect to several factors.

Among these fire supports, artillery is given the most deal of weight and mine artillery is a great threat to our troops because it has a superior predominance on the ability of survival. Our troops are planning to introduce UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) to overcome these difficulties. A study about hitting mine artillery has been developed inside the military field only. • Fire Control System(FCS) errors can be classified as hardware errors and software errors, and one of the software errors is from target tracking filter which estimates target's location, velocity, acceleration, and so on. It affects function of ballistic calculation equipment significantly. For gun to form predicted hitting point accurately and enhance hitting rate, we need status information of target's future location. Target tracking filter algorithms consist of Single Singer Model, Fixed Gain filter algorithm, IMM, PBIMM and so on. This paper will design IMM tracking filer, which is going to be! applied to domestic warship. Target tracking filter using CV model, Song model and CRT model for IMM tracking filter is made, and tracking ability is analyzed through Monte-Carlo simulation.

  • Two criteria of good vehicle suspension performance are typically their ability to provide good road handling and increased passenger comfort. So far, The existing active vehicle suspension uses pneumatic and hydraulic actuators that enhance road handling and passenger comfort. But these kinds of actuators have nonlinear characteristic less than an electromagnetic motor. In this research, we are trying to examine the feasibility and the experiment of an active vehicle suspension using electromagnetic motor in order to enhance the ride quality because existing active vehicle suspension using active power sources such as compressors, hydraulic pumps has nonlinear characteristic. Active vehicle suspension using electromagnetic motor will have the ability to behave differently on smooth and rough roads. The desired response should be soft in order to enhance ride comfort, but when the road surface is too rough the suspension should stiffen up to avoid hitting its limits.

  • This research is to comprehensively evaluate offensive abilities of baseball players who are expected to produce as many runs as possible by their hitting and running. To this end, we establish a simulation program to obtain the so-called scoring index of an individual player. The scoring index of a player is defined as an expected number of runs scored by an imaginary team that is composed of nine copies of the player. As a simulation input, we use 2014 season data of Korean pro-baseball. As a result, we present the scoring indices of top 10 players, 9 Korean pro-baseball teams, and overall 2014 season. The scoring index can serve as a comprehensive evaluation of offensive ability of a player or a team, selection of players for a (national) team or for a starting line-up, estimation of player's worth, and so on.

  • In baseball, sabermetric batting statistics are used to compare an offensive performance of players. There exist dozens of sabermetric statistics, but baseball fans don't like the complexity of an abundance of measures. This paper provides a batting grade index (BGI) using principal component based on eight batting statistics. These are OPS, ISO, SECA, TA, RC, RC/27, wOBA and XR. We show that how standardized batting statistics are aggregated and weighted to arrive at a single composite measure of BGI. Also our result allows for segmentation of players into groups using the K-means clustering algorithm.
