The Historical and Philosophical Understandings of Organizational Culture

  • Purpose - This study sought to discuss definitions of organizational culture taking into consideration different views, and the historical and philosophical elements of organizational culture. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - This paper is a relatively conceptual study that has attempted to define organizational culture, a topic that has been debated among scholars and practitioners. Various studies in the literature related to organizational culture have been reviewed in an effort to reduce the complexities and ambiguities in definitions of organizational culture. Results -This study summarized and synthesized different studies related to organizational culture, and identified the main streams for defining organizational culture as being from the historical and philosophical elements of organizational culture. Conclusions -The concept of organizational culture continues to be an important factor affecting organizational effectiveness and initiating organizational development. However, the definition of organizational culture has not been well-established. In this sense, this paper seems to be significant and meaningful as it attempts to define organizational culture from different perspectives.

혈액투석실 간호사의 전문직관, 조직의사소통이 환자안전문화에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Professionalism and Organizational Communication on Patient Safety Culture of Nurses in Hemodialysis Units)

  • Purpose: The study was conducted to investigate correlation between professionalism, organizational communication the and patient safety culture of nurses in hemodialysis units and verify factors that affect patient safety culture. Methods: Data were collected from 109 nurses working in hemodialysis units located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics including t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The Professionalism of participants was significantly correlated with patient safety culture while the Organizational communication was also correlated with patient safety culture. Factors influencing participants' patient safety culture included professionalism, organizational communication, employment history in current hospital, and the number of patients per nurse. These factors explained 57.8% of patient safety culture. Conclusion: The research findings suggest that in order to increase the awareness of patient safety culture of nurses in hemodialysis units, strategic efforts are needed to enhance professionalism and organizational communication satisfaction of nurses in hemodialysis units.

방사선사의 조직문화 및 리더십, 조직몰입이 조직만족에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Radiological Technologist Organizational Culture, Leadership and Organizational Commitment on Organizational Satisfaction)

  • 본 연구는 부산시내에 있는 병원에 근무하는 방사선사들을 대상으로 조직문화 및 리더십, 조직몰입이 조직만족에 미치는 영향에 대해 알고자 설문조사를 실시하고 분석을 시행하였다. 그 결과 3차 대학병원의 조직문화, 조직몰입, 직무만족의 점수가 통계적으로 유의하게 높게 나타났다(p<0.05, p<0.001). 이직경험이 없는 그룹이 조직몰입, 직무만족 및 조직 유효성의 점수가 통계적으로 유의하게 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 핵의학과의 직무만족 점수가 통계적으로 유의하게 높게 나타났다(p<0.05).위계적 회귀분석 결과 방사선사의 직무만족은 조직몰입이 가장 높은 영향력을 미치는 것으로 나타났다(β=0.564, p<0.001). 방사선사는 질병의 진단에 있어서 병원 조직에서 큰 부분을 차지하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 방사선사의 조직문화, 리더십, 조직몰입과의 관계를 분석하여 방사선사들의 직무만족을 높일 수 있는 방안을 마련하는데 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다.

중국 전통주택의 구성원리에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Organizational Principle of Chinese Traditional Houses)

  • This study is on the organizational principles of Chinese traditional houses. It has been assumed that a common cultural background did influence dwelling construction in most areas of China, some specific concepts are used to build a connection between the culture and architecture. There are four aspects of cultural influence being explored: traditional concept of space by the philosophical influence, religious influence, the Feng Shut method, and traditional system of family organization. The influence of the Chinese culture on dwelling architecture is predominant. Housing types from different areas of China, despite their different physical appearance, have similar spatial concepts. This cultural influence was due to the historic development of the Chinese empire. The organizational principles of Chinese dwelling architecture determined by its own cultural background have five major invariable norms. They are as follows: 1. Internal and enclosed spatial organization. 2. Grouping of buildings around axes. 3. Spatial organization and extension by courtyard. 4. Spatial expansion by adding units. 5. Hierarchical organization of space.

장애인복지기관의 조직문화유형과 지역사회중심사회통합지향성에 관한 연구 : 시장지향성의 매개효과를 중심으로 (Organizational Culture and Community-Centered Social Inclusion Orientation Among Social Service Organizations for People with Disabilities: Focused on Market Orientation As a Mediator)

  • 본 연구는 장애인복지기관의 '조직문화'(합리문화, 개발문화, 집단문화, 위계문화)와 고객중심을 강조하는 '시장지향성', 그리고 조직성과지표로서의 '지역사회중심 사회통합지향성'(Community-Centered Social Inclusion Orientation [COSI])의 관계를 검증하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 COSI에 대한 4개 조직문화유형의 직접효과와 시장지향성을 매개로 한 간접효과를 설정한 연구 모형을 구성하여 이 모형 의 유용성을 경험적으로 규명하였다. 전국조사에서 얻어진 263개소 장애인복지기관의 응답내용이 구조방정식 모형을 통해 분석되었다. 분석결과, 시장지향성은 종속변수인 조직성과지표로서의 COSI에 유의한 영향을 주는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 조직문화와 관련해서는 개발문화와 위계문화적 속성이 종속변수에 직접효과를, 합리문화와 집단문화적 속성은 시장지향성을 통하여 간접효과를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 획일적 조직문화 유형보다는 각 문화유형의 균형적 발달이 중요함을 시사하며, 조직성과를 위해 고객중심 그리고 부서 간 협력을 강조하는 시장지향성의 강화가 필요함을 확인할 수 있다.

  • Government intervention, industry cooperation, new vendors, and foreign competition are all factors that exert a powerful influence on the information technology, marketplace, and on the individual IS organization. When these influences need to change an organization, it is likely the culture or identity of the organization will be targeted for change. Because an organization is also composed of cognitive frameworks, there is an implication that the existing cognitive structures are in jeopardy. Thus, the cognitive component is important in how all members of organizations react and respond to change. This paper defines cognitive process and its related research history, introduces organizational change matters, tries to solve conflicts in organizational changes, and applies this topic to the information systems field.

  • This paper examines the relationship between IT investment and the improvement of efficiency from the perspective of organizational contingency by the type of organizations and their maturity in IT use in terms of their history of e-commerce use. Organizations are divided into private and public in nature, and into experienced and inexperienced in e-commerce. An analysis was performed on data from 286 organizations in tourism industry. Comparison among the four groups showed differences in competitive and operational efficiency.

Current Status and Issues of Nuclear Safety Culture

  • Objective:The aim of this paper is to discuss the nuclear safety culture in Korea. Background: Recently, Korean nuclear field has met a strong anti-nuclear trend after a few happenings, as well as Fukushima accident, which are turned out to be caused by organizational pitfalls and safety culture defects in general. Method: We review the concepts and constructs of safety culture based on the brief history of the nuclear safety culture that IAEA mainly raised after the Chernobyl accident in 1986. Additionally, we give a comparative discussion on the approach to the safety culture with U.S. Results: Finally, we discuss the three technical domains and propose six selected domestic issues related to the nuclear safety culture for coping with the demanding requests on nuclear safety in Korea. Conclusion and Application: We suggest several recommendations and a research direction in the form of a re-start line for the nuclear safety culture in Korea.

산서 분주그룹 기업문화연구 (A Study on Corporate Culture of Shanxi Fenjiu Group)

  • 중국에서 술은 단순한 음료를 넘어서, 일종의 문화를 이루고 있다. 중국의 술문화는 매우 오랜 역사를 지니고 있고, 중국에서 주류회사는 엄청난 규모와 이익을 보여주고 있다. 각 지역별로 많은 회사들이 있는데, 분주는 산서성의 장수기업이며, 중국주류시장에서 상당한 영향력과 지명도를 보유하고 있다. 이러한 분주그룹이 지니는 중요성에도 불구하고, 분주그룹에 대한 연구는 한국에 아직 나타나지 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 분주그룹 기업의 발전과정과 기업 문화를 분석하고자 한다. 분주그룹은 약 100여년의 기업역사를 갖고 있으며, 초창기부터 지금까지 주류시장에서 상당한 시장점유율을 보여 왔다. 분주그룹의 이러한 발전은 우수한 기업 문화에서 기인한 것으로 분석되었다. 분주그룹은 핵심이념, 품질 및 품격 지향성, 성실과 신용경영을 근본으로 기업 문화를 형성 및 발전시켜 왔다. 이러한 기업문화를 바탕으로 조직구조를 발전시키고, 좋은 제품을 만들어서 높은 지명도와 시장점유율을 자랑하고 있다. 본 연구를 통하여 중국 유명주류회사 및 전통기업에 대한 이해도를 높이고, 한국 주류회사에 대한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.

전자제품 제조업체 남성근로자의 직무 스트레스와 대사증후군의 관련성 (A Study on Correlation between Job Stress and Metabolic Syndrome of Male Employees of Electronic Goods Manufacturer)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between job stress and metabolic syndrome among male workers. Methods: A total of 396 male workers employed in an electronic company, located in 'P' city, Gyeonggi Province, who had taken medical examination at the 'D' hospital, volunteered in this study. All the data used in this study were obtained from 'D' hospital after getting consent and permission from the workers. General and occupational characteristics, medical history, and health-related behaviors of the subjects were obtained by self-administered questionnaire. Results: The highest occupational stress by sub-sector was reported in the order of insufficient job control, organizational system, lack of reward, job demand, job insecurity, physical environment, job culture, and relationship conflict. The prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome of the participants was 19.9%. The results of the multiple logistic regression analysis on metabolic syndrome of the subjects indicated that the syndrome was significantly higher among those with family history, smoking habit and ex-smoking, working duration of 3 years and over, and with higher total score of occupational stress. It was significantly more prevalent, when the degree of stress was high in the sub-sectors of occupational stress; job autonomy, job insecurity, lack of reward, and job culture. Conclusion: In conclusion, it is necessary to implement a plan to efficiently manage the job stress of these male workers, as the probability of metabolic syndrome increased with the increase of occupational stress. Furthermore, considering the highest occupational stress was found to be job autonomy among its sub-sectors, it is necessary to prepare various measures to enhance the autonomy of such employees.
