  • The expansion of regionalism has resulted in the creation of blocs of the world economy, so that those countries not belonging to one or more blocs can discriminated. Though recently singed on the bill of FTA with Chile, Korea is actually alienated from major stream of the blocs. Therefore, Korea government makes efforts to contract more FTAs with countries such as Singapore and Japan. FTA is believed to be an important method to secure export and national competitiveness in the long term. Therefore, we need to exactly understand critical issues and the long-run effect of FTA. The paper tries to find out important issues and potential strategies relating to electronic commerce in Korea-Singapore and Korea-Japan FTA. According to the historical facts, economic effect of FTA depends a lot on the contents of the agreement. Therefore, additional intensive studies are required before contracting FTA in the future.

  • The ancient biomolecular remains are the potential source for paleobiology and paleoanthropology. Especially, ancient human specimens such as bone, teeth, and hair are powerful materials to identify historical origin and migration of ancestor population from the past. However, most excavated human specimens in archaeological sites have commonly problems as natural damage and exogenous contamination. We carried out histological and molecular analyses of excavated bone from the historic sites in South Korea from the recently discovered in tumulus of Seochun and Naju. Biological deterioration of bone was observed anatomically by optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM). We extracted degraded DNA, and amplified hyper variable region (HVR) of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and amelogenin of nucleus DNA. This study applied and examined the relationships between histological preservation and DNA survival in excavated bone.

  • Tree-ring dating can be used to date scientifically prehistoric timbers, historical buildings or woodcrafts. It gives a calendar year to each tree ring and produces the felling dates of logs or wood panels. In this study, we applied tree-ring dating to a medicine cabinet in Seoul Museum of History. We obtained tree-ring data from radial or cross section by taking photographs with a digital camera. The cabinet were dated A.D. 1821 to the last ring. It was about 50 year older than the previous medicine cabinets. Tree-ring patterns indicated that the origin of woods for the cabinet would be near Sorak mountains.

  • In this paper, we deal with the ‘dearithmetization’ of algebra. Historically, the origin of algebra comes from arithmetic. Also school algebra is related to arithmetic in general. However, we have many difficulties in teaching school algebra, and there is many problems for students to learn algebra from elementary arithmetic knowledges. This paper supposed that the solution of these problem may be founded in the ‘dearithmetization’ of algebra. And we supposed that the ‘dearithmetization’ of algebra may be developed by three historical achievements - the completion of symbolic algebra, the principle of permanence of form, and the expansion of number concepts. In order to justify these supposition, we investigate Peacock's ideas, i.e. ‘symbolic algebra’, ‘the principle of permanence of form’, and consider how the integer is introduced in modern mathematics. And we analyze various textbooks, and investigate the ‘dearithmetization’ of school algebra which has been progressed in the three fields - symbolic algebra, the principle of permanence of form, and the expansion of number concepts.

  • This article exemines YEON-GA(煙家), a kind of chimney head cover, made and used during the Baekjae Period. YEON-GA was recently excavated in Buyo and Iksan, and it generally accepted as a kind of pottery stand. However, this paper will argue that it functioned as a chimney head cover during the Baekjae Period. The design of YEON-GA is the lotus flower bud which were popular during the Sabi-Baekjae Period. It seems highly likely that it functioned to ornament a chimney head and to send up smoke smoothly. It was also found that, beside a chimnery head cover, a chimney body was made and used. It is very difficult to trace the origin of YEON-GA but it seems that it had been used until the Chosun Dynasty, based on the historical documents.

  • It has been argued that as for the origin of the Pythagorean theorem, the theorem had already been discovered and proved before Pythagoras, and the historical records of ancient mathematics have confirmed various uses of this theorem. The purpose of this study is to examine the relevance of its name caused by Eurocentrism and the weakness of its use in Korean school mathematics and to seek improvements from a critical point of view. To this end, the Pythagorean theorem was reviewed from the perspectives of the history of mathematics and mathematics education. In addition, its name in relation to objective mathematical contents regardless of any specific civilization and its use as a starting point for teaching the theorem in school mathematics were suggested.

  • Construction Cost Indices are values for measuring fluctuations in direct construction costs which include material costs, labor costs, and equipment costs for construction operations. In Korea, Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT) has been assessing and announcing these indices since January, 2004. The main goals of this paper are to look over the calculation process for those indices and then present the trend in construction costs according to the types of facilities with the past construction cost index data. Also, this paper traces the origin of the occurrence of significant changes on those indices through the further analysis of the trend. In addition, this paper shows the practicality of the indices and the way how to put them to practical use. An alternative estimate method using the indices is suggested for compensating the changes of construction costs caused by price fluctuations.

  • This paper explains how the political elites limit peruvian politics after independence, through examining the historical origin of elites, the formation of the dominant elites and their politicization in Peru, 1824-1919. In detail, the first section of this paper examines theoretical concepts and the political economic conditions of elites. The next part explores the emergence of the dominant elite group and their politicization, which is focused on economic incentives and conditions in the Guano era. Finally, this paper suggests that peruvian elite group after independence is politically motivated by the direct control of economic resources and maximized privilege in distributions of economic benefits. Furthermore, these features provided the archetype of the Peruvian politics, such as the pre-modern oligarchy and the military intervention.

  • Lignin-derived porous carbon has been identified as a versatile electrode material for supercapacitors (SCs) in energy storage systems (ESSs) owing to their intrinsic advantages including good electrical conductivity, low cost, high thermal and chemical stability, and high porosity, which stem from high surface, appropriate pore distribution, tailored morphologies, heterostructures, and diverse derivates. In this review, to provide a fundamental understanding of the properties of lignin, we first summarize the origin, historical development, and basic physicochemical properties. Next, we describe essential strategies for the preparation of lignin-derived porous carbon electrode materials and then highlight the latest advances in the utilization of lignin-derived porous carbon materials as advanced electrode materials. Finally, we provide some of our own insights into the major challenges and prospective research directions of lignin-derived porous carbon materials for supercapacitors. We believe that this review will provide general guidance for the design of next-generation electrode materials for supercapacitors.

  • When culture took large part in industrial area, every country has tried to utilize own cultural contents for educational or commercial purpose and the various cultures and histories are recognized as a main concept or subject so that a number of scholars who study history increase. In video game field, special characteristics of interface that audiences participate in the game to complete story-telling is considered as efficient material for learning process. As observed above, it is important to analyze the games that every country makes and export to the world in which the video games is understood as a play of human in general. This Paper has firstly analyzed the most favorite historical games developed in Korea, the USA, Japan, Taiwan and Germany from 1980 to 2005 and secondly, compared that wars and historical origin appears in game scenario, a world view and background story and finally after point out the preferable era and genre of the countries then propose the promising way of design for historical video games. In the process of analysis of a view and heroes in historical games, we compared the real persons, the real historical events and novel in which 11.8% only employed the real persons in 8 out of 68 games. Also the real history and background story are appeared in 37 games which is 54.4% of them. We discovered that the main material that is popular for each country is the historical backing rather than real persons where the favorite historical background is chosen at which they are proud of; 3-Throne era with strong ancient Gogurye for Korea, the 1st and 2nd World Wars and the Independence War for the USA, the tide of war around Middle age for Japan, ancient history of Europe for Germany. The favorite age for video games is Ancient times with 37 games for 54.4%, Middle Age with 7 games fer 10.3%, the prehistoric age with 5 games for 7.35%, remote age with 1 for 1.47%, while current historical games favor Ancient or Modern Age.
