  • High Speed Machining(HSM) reduces machining time and improves surface accuracy because of the high cutting speed and feedrate. Development of HSM makes it allowable to machine difficult-to-cut material and use small-size-endmill. It is however limited to cutting condition and tool material. In the machining operation, it is important to check main parameter of tool life and select optimal cutting condition because tool breakage can interrupt progression of operation. In this study, cutting parameters are determined to 3 factors and 3 levels which are a spindle speed, a feedrate and a width of cut. Experiment is designed to orthogonal array table for L9 with 3 outer array using Taguchi method. Also, it is proposed to inspect significance of the optimal factors and levels by ANOVA using average of SN ratio for tool life. Finally, estimated value of SN ratio in the optimal cutting condition is compared with measured one in the floor shop and reduction of loss is predicted.

  • In this research, the effect of roughing on tool load through bottom-up machining is investigated through actual machining. Generally, through the use of high-speed machining technology, machining methods, such as general roughing, operate by deepening the cutting depth for as long as the tool is able to withstand it, giving a slower feed rate, less cutting depth, and faster feed. However, when the cutting depth is deep, there is a problem in that the stepped shape of the cutting area is increased (e.g., by the shaking of the tool or the chipping load). However, if the cutting is performed less, the cutting time becomes relatively long. To compensate for these drawbacks and extend the service life of the tool, economic efficiency needs to be secured.

  • It can be acquired the high effective productivity through of high speed, precision of machine tools, and then, machine tools will be got a competitive power. Industrially advanced countries already developed that the high speed feed is 60m/min using the high speed ball screw. Also, a lot of problems have happened the feed drive system. It is necessary to study about the characteristics of thermal deformation played a more critical role than static stiffness and dynamic rigidity in controlling the level of machining accuracy. In spite of the improving the thermal deformation characteristics of machine tools at the design stage, there are always some residual errors that have to be compensated for during machining. In this study, thermal deformation error automated compensation device with multiple linear regression is proposed that thermal deformation error can be eliminated at the machining stage. The developed device has been practically applied to the feed drive unit.

  • The high speed machining center(HMC) has been widely applied to manufacture a die and trial product in many machine industry. Because the evaluation fer the HMC is not sufficiently performed and the efficient cutting conditions aren't selected, a great loss has been caused in the cost aspect. In this study, the need of preliminary running time and unstable spindle speed is presented from the analysis of acceleration in idling. The Machinability fur the TiAlN coated flat end mill and STD11( $H_{R}$C60) is evaluated from the trends of tool wear and cutting force according to cutting conditions and slenderness ratio and a low response of tool dynamometer in high speed is proved. The resonance spindle speed is identified through the tool wear and natural frequency test.t.

  • The high speed machining has been widely applied to manufacture dies and machine elements in industrial field. Especially, 5-axis milling has been employed to produce a wide range of turbine blades, impellers and complex molds. In this study, the machining characteristics of injection molds were investigated according to tool tilting angles in 5-axis milling. The cutting force and surface roughness were investigated with various tool tilting angles. When the tool tilting angle was over than 10 degree, the characteristics of cutting force and surface roughness were improved in machining of Al alloy.

  • In order to manufacture a precision mold/die by machining, users need high speed & precision mold/die machining center. So, for development of this machine, we intend to use linear motor that is instead of ball-screw, servo-motor and coupling, high-speed spindle of pressurized air journal bearing and composite materials. In this paper we research column moving type and table moving type. The former is mainly piling 3 axes on one moving body, the latter is consist of two independent carriages. Both types are available to high speed & precision machine, but we finally draw a conclusion column moving type due to an advantage of high-speed control of linear motor.

  • In this study, residual stress was investigated to evaluate damaged layer in high speed machining through simulation. In machining steel(STDll), residual stress remaining in machined surface was mainly appeared as compressive stress. The scale of this damaged layer more depends on feed per tooth and radial depth than spindle speed. Damaged layer was measured by optical microscope and hardness method. The micro-structure of damaged layer was a martensite because of cutting force and cutting temperature. Thickness of damaged layer is increased with incresing of feed per tooth and radial depth.

  • In order to develop the optimum shape of an MQL carbide end-mill suitable for high speed machining of wing ribs which are a detailed part of larger wing structures, using a new material Al-Li alloy, a new MQL carbide end-mill is created that has various quantities of holes, hole sizes, and hole locations. A theoretical machining graph is generated using the hammer test and FRF simulation, and a machining test is performed in order to verify the machining stability in the high speed machining area. The optimum configuration of the MQL carbide end-mill is also presented through comparing the chattering, machining noise and cutting conditions, including the maximum cutting depth, rpm, and feed rate per teeth, for each cutter.
