In the satellite remote sensing, the operational environment of the satellite sensor causes image degradation during the image acquisition. The degradation results in noise and blurring which badly affect identification and extraction of useful information in image data. This study proposes a maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation using Point-Jacobian iteration to restore a degraded image. The proposed method assumes a Gaussian additive noise and Markov random field of spatial continuity. The proposed method employs a neighbor window of spoke type which is composed of 8 line windows at the 8 directions, and a boundary adjacency measure of Mahalanobis square distance between center and neighbor pixels. For the evaluation of the proposed method, a pixel-wise classification was used for simulation data using various patterns similar to the structure exhibited in high resolution imagery and an unsupervised segmentation for the remotely-sensed image data of 1 mspatial resolution observed over the north area of Anyang in Korean peninsula. The experimental results imply that it can improve analytical accuracy in the application of remote sensing high resolution imagery.

High-resolution satellite imagery are used in various application field such as generation of DEM, orthophto, and three dimensional city model. To define the relation between image and object space, sensor modelling and generation of the epipolar image is essential processes. As the header information or physical sensor model becomes unavailable for the end users due to the national security or commercial purpose, generation of epipolar images without these information becomes one of important processes. In this study, epipolar geometry is generated and analysed by applying two generalized sensor models; parallel and parallel-perspective model Epipolar equation of the parallel model has linear property which is relatively simple; Epipolar geometry of the parallel-perspective model is non-linear. This linear property enable us to generate epipolar image efficiently.

Even after applying an image registration, Very High Resolution (VHR) multi-temporal images acquired from different optical satellite sensors such as IKONOS, QuickBird, and Kompsat-2 show a local misalignment due to dissimilarities in sensor properties and acquisition conditions. As the local misalignment, also referred to as Registration Noise (RN), is likely to have a negative impact on multi-temporal information extraction, detecting and reducing the RN can improve the multi-temporal image processing performance. In this paper, an approach to fine registration between VHR multi-temporal images by considering local distribution of RN is proposed. Since the dominant RN mainly exists along boundaries of objects, we use edge information in high frequency regions to identify it. In order to validate the proposed approach, datasets are built from VHR multi-temporal images acquired by optical satellite sensors. Both qualitative and quantitative assessments confirm the effectiveness of the proposed RN-based fine registration approach compared to the manual registration.

High-resolution satellite images have high potential to acquire geospatial information over inaccessible areas such as Antarctica. Reference data are often required to increase the positional accuracy of the satellite data but the data are not available in many inland areas in Antarctica. Therefore this paper presents a multi-image RPCs (Rational Polynomial Coefficients) sensor modeling without any ground controls or reference data. Conjugate points between multi-images are extracted and used for the multi-image sensor modeling. The experiment was carried out for Kompsat-3A and showed that the significant accuracy increase was not observed but the approach has potential to suppress the maximum errors, especially the vertical errors.

In this paper, we propose the automatic image-to-image registration of high resolution satellite images using local properties of tie points to improve the registration accuracy. A spatial distance between interest points of reference and sensed images extracted by Scale Invariant Feature Transform(SIFT) is additionally used to extract tie points. Coefficients of affine transform between images are extracted by invariant descriptor based matching, and interest points of sensed image are transformed to the reference coordinate system using these coefficients. The spatial distance between interest points of sensed image which have been transformed to the reference coordinates and interest points of reference image is calculated for secondary matching. The piecewise linear function is applied to the matched tie points for automatic registration of high resolution images. The proposed method can extract spatially well-distributed tie points compared with SIFT based method.
In recent years, the hyperspectral instruments with high spatial and high spectral resolution have become an important component of wide variety of earth science applications. The primary mission of the proposed Compact Airborne Imaging Spectrometer System (CAISS) in this study is to acquire and provide full contiguous spectral information with high quality spectral and spatial resolution for advanced applications in the field of remote sensing. The CAISS will also be used as the vicarious calibration equipment for the cross-calibration of satellite image data. The CAISS consists of six physical units: the camera system, the Jig, the GPS/INS, the gyro-stabilized mount, the operating system, and the power inverter and distributor. Additionally, the calibration instruments such as the integrated sphere and spectral lamps are also prepared for the radiometric and spectral calibration of the CAISS. The CAISS will provide high quality calibrated image data that can support evaluation of satellite application products. This paper summarizes the design, development and major characteristic of the CAISS.
A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system is able to provide all-weather, day-and- night superior imaging capability of the earth surface, and thus is extremely useful in surveillance for both civil and military applications. In this paper, the X-band high resolution spaceborne SAR system design is demonstrated with the key design performance for a given mission and system requirements characterized by the small satellite system. The SAR multi-mode imaging technique is presented with a critical parameter assessment, and the standard mode results are analyzed in terms of the image quality performances. In line with the system requirement X-band SAR payload and ground reception/processing subsystems are designed and the major design results are presented with the key performance characteristics. This small satellite SAR system shows the wide range of imaging capability with high resolution, and proves to be an effective surveillance systems in the light weight, high performance and cost-effective points of view.

This study extracted Near Infrared (NIR) band using Image Processing Technology (IPT), and calculated Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). Aerial photography from Daum portal in combination with high resolution satellite image was employed to improve vegetation sensitivity by extracting NIR band and calculating NDVI with comparison to QuickBird result. The extracted NIR band and NDVI through IPT presented similar distribution pattern. In addition, a regression analysis by land cover character showed high correlation paddy and forest Therefore, this approach could be acceptable to acquire vegetation environment information.

This paper presents a new method to extract semi-automatically roads from high spatial resolution satellite imagery. This method is based both on wavelet transform and on multiresolution analysis combined in the "$\grave{a}$ trous" algorithm. As an urban road network consists on different classes of streets, multiresolution processing allows to extract the streets class by class. The method was applied to a KVR-1000 image on a part of Busan Metropolitan City. The method was carried out for the road extraction of three different widths and it succeeded in extracting good fitted strips. The accuracy analysis for three types of streets was also performed. The overall accuracy in 4 pixels of width is 80.5%. The result suggests that this method can be used to update road networks in the studied urban network. In summary, the multiresolution approach based on the wavelet transform, used in this study, is regarded as one of effective methods to extract urban road network from high spatial resolution satellite images.

This paper estimates the probability of image fusion to improve accuracy of NDVl analysis. NDVI has been utilized in monitoring extensive forest or forest fire, and image fusion is a method to improve the resolution of multi-spectra image same resolution as high resolution panchromatic image. In this paper wavelet, PCA, IHS, Brovey and multiplicative method was applied to improve spatial resolution of SPOT-4 satellite image. NDVI images were generated from original and fused images and the correlation coefficient of fused and original image was calculated. The results of their comparison, PCA method showed best performance.
