According to the wide - spread use of rectifier in electronic equipments, such problems as electronic components failures or equipment disorders have been occurred due to current harmonics. To overcome these problems, power factor correction circuits employing boost converter have been used. The high switching stress of boost converter can be reduced by snubber circuit. Recently, research activities in snubber circuits have been directed to energy recovery snubber for improving the efficiency of power converter. In this study, a new passive snubber circuit which can recover trapped snubber energy without added control is proposed for boost converter. The control of boost converter with proposed snubber is the same as the conventional one. In addition, the energy recovery circuit can be implemented with a few passive components. The circuit operation is confirmed through simulation.
This paper is studied on the characteristic analyses of a high performance buck-boost converter added electric isolation by using a soft switching method. To be achieved of a high performance system, the proposed buck-boost converter is constructed by using a partial resonant circuit. The control switches using in the converter are operated with soft switching for a Partial resonant method. The controlling switches are operated without increasing their voltage and current stresses by the soft switching technology. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the converter efficiency is high. And the proposed converter is added in a electric isolation. When the power conversion system is required to electric isolation, the proposed converter is adopted with the system development of high efficiency. The soft switching operation and system efficiency of the proposed converter is verified by digital simulation and experimental results.
In this paper, a non-isolated high step-up and high efficiency boost converter is proposed. By using the 3-level boost converter structure, the proposed converter can obtain higher voltage gain than conventional high step-up converters. The voltage spike of the switching device is well clamped by using the clamp circuit composed of a clamp diode and a capacitor and the energy of the leakage inductor of coupled inductor is effectively transferred to output. Due to the 3-level structure, the equivalent switching frequency of the coupled inductor is doubled, which results in reduced inductor size. A 500 W prototype converter is built and tested to verify performance of the proposed converter.
Gallium nitride (GaN)-based power switching devices, such as high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMT), provide significant performance improvements in terms of faster switching speed, zero reverse recovery, and lower on-state resistance compared with conventional silicon (Si) metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET). These benefits of GaN HEMTs further lead to low loss, high switching frequency, and high power density converters. Through simulation and experimentation, this research thoroughly contributes to the understanding of performance characterization including the efficiency, loss distribution, and thermal behavior of a 160-W GaN-based synchronous boost converter under various output voltage, load current, and switching frequency operations, as compared with the state-of-the-art Si technology. Original suggestions on design considerations to optimize the GaN converter performance are also provided.
This paper proposes a new control method for an AC-DC Buck converter which is utilized as a front-end converter of a 2-stage high power density adapter. In the conventional adapter applications, 2-stage configuration shows higher power transfer efficiency and higher power density than those of the single stage flyback converter. In the 2-stage AC-DC converter, the boost converter is widely used as a front-end converter. However, an efficiency variation between high AC line and low AC line is large. On the other hand, the proposed conduction band control method for a buck front-end converter has an advantage of small efficiency variation. In the proposed control method, switching operation is determined by a band control voltage which represents output load condition, and an AC line voltage. If the output load increasesin low AC line, the switching operation range is expanded in half of line cycle. On the contrary, in light load and high line condition, the switching operation is narrowed. Thus, the proposed control method reduces switching loss under high AC line and light load condition. A 60W prototype which is configured the buck and LLC converter with the proposed control method is experimented on to verify the validity of the proposed system. The prototype shows 92.16% of AC-DC overall efficiency and 20.19 W/in 3 of power density.

In this paper, reactorless high efficiency boost DC/DC converter for EV is proposed. In proposed converter, improves efficiency because decrease power loss when the switches are turned on/off using zero current switching (ZCS) at all switch of primary full bridge. By replacing reactance ingredients of L-C resonance circuit for ZCS with leakage inductance ingredients of high frequency transformer, it reduces system size and expense because of not add special reactor. For validity verification of proposed converter, in the paper implements simulation using PSIM and perform experiment by making 5KW DC/DC converter. In experimental results, efficiency of proposed converter conformed superiority.
High voltage gain converters are essential for distributed power generation systems with renewable energy sources, such as fuel cells and solar cells, because of their low voltage characteristics. This paper introduces a novel nonisolated DC-DC converter topology developed by combining an inverting buck-boost converter and voltage multipliers. In the proposed converter, the input voltage is connected in series with the output, and the majority of the input power is directly delivered to the load. The voltage multipliers are stacked in series to achieve high step-up voltage gain. The voltage stress across all of the switches and capacitors can be significantly reduced. As a result, the switches with low voltage ratings can be used to achieve high efficiency and low cost. To verify the validity of the proposed topology, a 360-W prototype converter is built to obtain the experimental results.
Single-phase and three-phase AC to DC power converters are becoming frequently used for high voltage/high power applications such as telecommunications. They often require input/output transformer isolation for safety, a unity input power factor for minimum reactive power, free input harmonic currents fed back to the AC Power distribution system and, finally, high efficiency and high power density for minimum weight and volume. The proposed boost converter for power factor correction (PFC) provides an unity input power factor, low harmonic distortion and high efficiency along with reduced volume and weight. Single-phase 220VAC input/380VDC 1KW output prototype is constructed and experimental results will be verified with those of PSpice simulation.
Design of single state AC-DC converter with high power factor for low level applications is proposed. The proposed converter is obtained from the integration of a buck-boost converter and the half-bridge DC-DC converter. This converter gives the good power factor correction low line current harmonic distortions and tight output voltage regulations. This converter also has a high efficiency by employing an soft switching method and synchronous rectifier. The modelling and detailed analysis for the proposed converter are performed. To verify the performance of the proposed converter a 100W converter has been designed
