In regions of low-to-moderate seismicity, various types of lap splices are used for longitudinal reinforcement of columns at the plastic hinge zones. The seismic performance of such lap spliced columns, such as strength, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation, is affected by material strengths, longitudinal re-bar size, confinement of hoops, lap splice location, and lap splice length. In the present study, cyclic loading tests were performed for columns using three types of lap splices (bottom offset bar splice, top offset bar splice, and splice without offset bend). Lap splice length($40d_b$ and $50d_b$) was also considered as test parameters. Ties with 90-degree end hooks were provided in the lap splice length. The test results showed that strength, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation of columns significantly differed depending on the details and the length of lap splices. The bottom offset bar splice showed high ductility and energy dissipation but low strength; on the other hand, the top offset bar splice and the splice without offset bend showed high strength but moderate ductility and energy dissipation.
In the construction of high-rise buildings, bent re-bars are manually straightened to connect slabs to core-walls, which are usually cast before floor structures. During cold bending and straightening of re-bars, plastic deformation causing work hardening, Bauschinger effect and aging hardening is unavoidable. Tensile tests of coldly bent and straightened re-bars were conducted with test parameters of grade, diameter, and bend radius of re-bars as well as age between bending and straightening. Test results showed that proportional limits were lower and strain hardening occurred without yield plateaus. Inside and outside of re-bars with compression and tension deformations, respectively, during bending showed lower yield points due to Bauschinger effect and no yield plateaus due to work hardening, respectively. When re-bar grade was higher, yield point became significantly lower where Grade 400 re-bars had yield strengths lower than specified yield strength of 400 MPa. Because the surface of re-bar has higher strength than the core of re-bar, Bauschinger effect was more obvious for higher-grade re-bars. When age between bending and straightening was greater, yield strength increased and elongation decreased (i.e. embrittlement occurs). Using measured data, stress-strain relationship for straightened re-bars was developed based on Ramberg-Osgood model, which can be used to evaluate stiffness of joints when straightened re-bars are applied.

This study examined the bending performance of high strength and seismic purpose reinforcing bars experimentally with various parameters. For the experimental approach on the bending performance, the specimens were prepared with parameters, such as steel grades, diameters of reinforcing bars, and bending angles of reinforcing bars. Tensile strength tests on the reinforcing bars, the bending tests and re-bending tests, and the second tensile strength tests on the re-bended reinforcing bars were conducted. According to the test results on high strength and seismic purpose reinforcing bars, defects did not appear when the yield strength of the reinforcing bar was 500 MPa or less and the diameter was D13 or less, even when the first bending process was performed with a $135^{\circ}$ bending angle and a $2d_b$ inner radius. The bending performance decreased asthe strength and diameter of the reinforcing bars was increased. In addition, there was no significant difference between the general reinforcing bars and seismic purpose-reinforcing bars.

In this paper was studied on the mechanical characteristics of Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics(GFRP) of the steel bar it is to replace. The advantage of FRP such as high strength, low weight and chemical inertness or noncorrosiveness can be fully exploited. GFRP bar were successfully fabricated at l0mm nominal diameters of solid and hollow types using a pultrusion method. Tensile and bending specimens from this bar were tested and compared with behavior of GFRP rebar and steel bar.
A compression lap splice can be calculated longer than a tension lap splice in high strength concrete according to current design codes. Including effects of transverse reinforcement, a compression splice becomes much longer than a tension splice. Effects of transverse reinforcement and bar size on strength and behavior of compression lap splice, which always exist in actual structures, have been investigated through experimental study of column tests with concrete strength of 40 and 60 MPa. The results of the tests with bar diameters of 22 and 29 mm show that there is no size effect of bar diameter on compression lap splice. Bond strength of small bar diameter may increase. However, large diameters of re-bars are used in compression member and the size effect of re-bars does not have to be considered in compression lap splice. Confined specimens have twice of calculated strengths by current design codes. New design equations for the compression lap splice including the effects of transverse reinforcement are required for practical purpose of ultra-high strength concrete. End bearing is enhanced by transverse reinforcement placed at ends of splice not by transverse reinforcement within splice length. As more transverse reinforcement are placed, the stresses developed by bond linearly increase. The transverse reinforcements at ends of splice a little improve the strength by bond. Because the stresses developed by bond in compression splice with transverse reinforcement are nearly identical to or less than those in tension splice with same transverse reinforcement, strength increment of compression splice is attributed to end bearing only.
This report is on the Reinforcing System(MFRI) for Concrete Structure using FRP ROD & High-Performance Mortar. The main characteristic of this system is as follow. First, the fiber rods in this system have seven times greater tensile strength than general reinforcing steel bars(re-bar) and the weight is a fifth lighter. Camels coated on the fiber rods' surfaces to improve adhesive strength and pull-out strength. Second, high strength shotcrete mortar is has very good workability and low rebound rate. After installing the Fiber Rods, Shotcrete mortar Is applied or sprayed to finish reinforcement. Finally, MFRI system has excellent fire-resisting performance and sogood tolerance against external environment by inserting fiber rods and reinforcing materials into mortar which has high compressive strength. It is applied to bridge slab, utility box and tunnel of civil engineering works, and beam and slab of building structures.
As a fundamental study to introduce the reliability-based design code, a statistical study is conducted for the material strength data collected from domestic construction sites. In order to develop a rational design code based on statistics and reliability theory, it is essential to obtain the statistical properties of material strength. Material strength data for concrete, reinforcing bars, and prestressing strands which are used in domestic construction sites are collected and statistically analyzed. Then, the statistical properties are compared with those used in the process of the reliability-based calibration of internationally leading design codes. The statistical properties of the domestic data are such that the bias factor is relatively uniform between 1.13 and 1.20 and the coefficient of variation is below 0.10. Reinforcing bar data show difference among different manufacturers but there is not much difference among re-bar diameters. In the case of tendons, which are high strength materials, both of the domestic and foreign data show smaller values of the bias factor and the coefficient of variation than those of concrete and re-bar. Statistical distribution of all the material strength can be properly assumed as normal, log-normal, or Gumbel distribution after analyzing the classified data by individual construction site and manufacturer rather than the mixed data obtained from different sources in order to express the individual distribution of each structure.
An experimental study was performed to evaluate the applicability of current design code to the class B splice of SD600 reinforcing bars. Twelve simply supported beam and slab specimens with re-bar splices were tested under monotonic loading. Parameters for this test were re-bar diameter, concrete cover thickness, concrete strength, and stirrup spacing. Concrete strengths ranged 24.7~55.3 MPa. Most of the specimens were designed to satisfy the class B splice length specified by current design code. Average bar stresses resulting from this test were compared with the predictions by the KCI code provisions. Based on the result, the applicability of the current design code to SD600 re-bars were evaluated. The re-bar splices gave satisfactory performance for all D13 re-bar splices and for D22 and D32 splices with transverse reinforcement. On the basis of the test result, for D22 and the greater diameter bars, the use of either transverse reinforcement of the thicker concrete cover was recommended.

Because of the high level of the safety and durability, a lot of reinforcing bars is placed in the concrete structure of the Nuclear Power Plant. But the overcrowding re-bars cause some problems during the construction as the diseconomy, construction delay, quality deterioration, and so on. These problems can be solved by applying the high-strength reinforcing bars to NPP structure. To achieve this, after analysing the structural target performance like the control of cracks, adherence, shear, torsion, development of reinforcement and earthquake-resistance, the results of the analysis will be reflected in the structural performance evaluation test.

This paper discusses the estimation of construction cost of high fluidity concrete using segregation reducing type superplasicizer with 350kgf/cm2 of design strength and 60$\pm$5cm of slump flow in order to verify the cost down effect of high fluidity concrete compared with that of plain concrete with 350kgf/cm2 of design strength and 18cm of slump and with 210kgf/cm2 of design strength and 15cm of slump. According to research, under same strength levels, although material cost of high fluidity concrete is somewhat higher than that of plain concrete due to segregation reducing type superplasticizer, labor cost and equipment cost of high fluidity concrete is cheaper than that of plain concrete. However, based on the strength differences, high fluidity concrete shows lower material cost, labor cost and equipment cost than that of plain concrete due to decreasing in size of member and re-bar caused by high strength development of concrete.
