  • In recent years, Hith Performance Concrete has attracted world wide attention for its workability, strength and long-term durability. A field test was conducted to confirm the properties of high performance Concrete in situconditions. This paper describes the concrete materials, mix proportions, fresh state properties, some aspects of placability and qualty control results for field test. From the result, it was found that it is possible to produce High Performance Concrete with self-compactable and high strength.

  • This study is to characterize the material property of early age high performance concrete emphasizing compressive strength using nondestructive testing methods. Three high performance concrete slabs of 600, 850 and 1100kg/$cm^{2}$ compressive strengths were prepared together with cylinders from same batches. Cylinder tests were peformed at the ages of 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after pouring. Using the impact echo method, the compression wave velocities were obtained based on different high performance concrete ages and compressive strengths. The equation to obtain the compressive strengths of high performance concrete has been developed using the obtained compression wave velocities. Using the SASW (spectral analysis of surface wave) method, the equation have also been developed to obtain the compressive strengths of high performance concrete based on the surface wave velocities.

  • The evaluation of Single or multi-degregation of concrete coated by high performance surface penetration agency was examined through various tests, i.e., carbonation, absorption, carbonation + chloride ion and carbonation + chemical solution according to various high performance surface penetration agencies and various compressive strengths of base concrete. The 2 types of high performance surface penetration agencies were used i.e., inorganic and alcohol soluble. And 2 types of compressive strength of base concrete were used such as 21 30. MPa. The characteristics of concrete coated high performance surface penetration agency was more improved than that of non-coated concrete, and especially, water soluble inorganic agency was most effective. And if compressive strength of base concrete was low, the improved effects would be larger.

  • The evaluation of characteristics of concrete coated by high performance surface penetration agency was examined through various tests, i.e., compressive strength, penetration depth, water and air permeability, absorption according to various high performance surface penetration agencies and various compressive strengths of base concrete. The 4 types of high performance surface penetration agencies were used i.e., organic, inorganic, water soluble, and alcohol soluble. And 3 types of compressive strength of base concrete were used such as 21, 24 and 30 MPa. The characteristics of concrete coated high performance surface penetration agency was more improved than that of non-coated concrete, and especially, water soluble inorganic agency was most effective. • Internal curing, a widely used method for mitigating early-age shrinkage in concrete, also offers notable advantages for concrete durability. This paper explores the potential of internal curing by partial replacement of sand with fine lightweight aggregate for enhancing the behavior of high-performance concrete at elevated temperatures. Such a technique may prove economical and safe for the construction of skyscrapers, where explosive spalling of high-performance concrete in fire is a potential hazard. To reach this aim, the physico-mechanical features of internally cured high-strength concrete specimens, including mass loss, compressive strength, strain at peak stress, modulus of elasticity, stress-strain curve, toughness, and flexural strength, were investigated under different temperature exposures; and to predict some of these mechanical properties, a number of equations were proposed. Based on the experimental results, an advanced stress-strain model was proposed for internally cured high-performance concrete at different temperature levels, the results of which agreed well with the test data. It was observed that the replacement of 10% of sand with pre-wetted fine lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) not only did not reduce the compressive strength at ambient temperature, but also prevented explosive spalling and could retain 20% of its ambient compressive strength after heating up to 800℃. It was then concluded that internal curing is an excellent method to enhance the performance of high-strength concrete at elevated temperatures.

  • As high-rise buildings with 100 or more stories are being constructed, it is inevitable to use high-performance materials including high-performance concrete. What is most important in high-performance concrete is extremely high strength in order to reduce the section of members in high-rise buildings. During the last several years, there have been active researches on Ultra-high-strength concrete. While these researches have been mostly focused on strength development, however, other accompanying physical properties have not been studied sufficiently. Thus, this study purposed to obtain and analyze data on the physical-mechanical properties of Ultra-high-strength concrete through experiments and to use the results as basic information on required performance of concrete used in high-rise buildings.

  • Recently, as structures become bigger and higher, it is needed that high strength, high flow and high durability concrete. Demanding of High performance concrete that equality is maintained without material separation while flow, strength is increased by using low W/C rate and admixture, carbonation does not occur because of dense filling and has high durability is increasing rapidly. Because this high performance concrete is superior to general concrete in workability and durability, it is widely used in many construction and engineering works fields. However, it is reported that when it was exposed in fire, violent explosive spalling would be happened. Therefore, the purpose of this study evaluates explosive spalling properties of fire damaged high performance concrete according to the heating time.

  • Apart from strength properties, durability, toughness and workability are also important criteria in defining the performance of a concrete structure. Hence "High Performance Concrete (HPC)" is introduced. It is different from high strength concrete and can have various applications. In this paper, the properties (Mechanical and Durability) of High Performance Concrete blended with bagasse ash at 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% are studied. However, it is difficult to analyze the performance based on different properties obtained from different experiments. Hence it is necessary to combine all the criteria/properties into a single value to obtain a result by a technique called Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP).It is an effective tool for dealing with complex decision making, and may aid the decision maker to set priorities and make the best decision. In addition, the AHP incorporates a useful technique for checking the consistency of the decision maker?s evaluations, thus reducing the bias in the decision making process.

  • This paper shows a study of the efficiency of expansive additive and shrinkage reducing admixture in controlling restrained shrinkage cracking of high performance concrete at early age. Free autogenous shrinkage test of $100{\times}100{\times}400mm$ concrete specimens and simulated completely-restrained test with VRTM(variable restraint testing machine) were performed. Creep and autogenous shrinkage of high-performance concrete with and without expansive additive and shrinkage reducing admixture were investigated by experiments that provided data on free autogenous shrinkage and restrained shrinkage. The results showed that the addition of expansive additive and shrinkage reducing admixture effectively reduced autogenous shrinkage and tensile stress in the restrained conditions. Also, it was found that the shrinkage stress was relaxed by 90% in high-performance concrete with and without expansive additive and shrinkage reducing admixtures at early age.

  • Recently, it has been difficult to get natural sand for concrete due to an insufficient supply in Korea. Crushed sand was thought as a substitute and previous research has been focused on low fluidity and normal compressive strength (24-30 MPa). Study on high performance concrete using crushed sand is hardly found in Korea. In this study it was investigated that the effect of the crushed sand on fluidity and compressive strength properties of high performance concrete. Blending crushed sand (FM: 3.98) produced in Namyangju, Kyunggido and sea sand (FM: 2.80) produced in Asan bay in Chungnam. The final FMs of fine aggregate were 3.50, 3.23, and 3.08. W/B was set as 0.25 to get high performance. With the test results an analysis of relationship was performed using a statistical program. It was shown that strength property of concrete using crushed aggregate at the very early age or after specific time was mainly affected by strength development properties of binders instead of the crushed sand.
