  • Wolsong Unit 2,3&4 has been performing a containment integrity test during power operation. This test could impact to the safe operation during test. If an accident occurs during pressure dropping phase, reactor trip can be delayed because of the increased pressure difference which causes a time delay to reach the trip set-point. On the contrary, if an accident occurs during pressure increasing phase, reactor trip could be accelerated because the pressure difference to the trip set-point decrease. Point Lepreau nuclear power plant, which installed GCLMS (Gross Containment Leakage Monitoring System) in 1990, has discontinued the test since 1992 due to these adverse effects. Therefore, we evaluated the risk to obviate the GCLMS test based on PWR's ILRT (Integrated Leak Rate Test) extension methodologies. The results demonstrate that risk increase rate is not high in case of performing only ILRT test at every 5 years instead of doing GCLMS test at every 1.5 years. In addition, the result shows that GCLMS test can be removed on a risk-informed perspective since risk increasement is in acceptable area of regulatory acceptance criteria.

자연보호답사대회 보고서에 진술된 국민학생의 가설능력의 분석 (The Analysis of Elementary School Students' Hypotheses in the Field Trip Contest of the Second Korean Youth Science Festival)

  • This study is to consider hypotheses with integral view on the respect of creative thinking. Subjects of this study are Korean students in the 5th grade who participated in the Field Trip Contest of the second Korean Youth Science Festival, an openended inquiry investigation. Objectives of this study are as follows: 1) to measure the inquiry level of the Field Trip Contest activity 2) to find how many hypotheses were made on different types in the inquiry investigation 3) to measure the quality level of hypotheses made in the scientific inquiry investigation 4) to find out the correlation between the 1st and 2nd hypotheses and the final activity score in the two staged scientific investigation In the consequence of it, inquiry level of the Field Trip Contest was very high with good activity topics and openended way of investigation. Hypotheses were made in the prediction, plan, and conclusion parts in the field trip activity report. They used hypothesis-as-prediction typed statements(3.41/team) more than hypothesis-as-explanation(1.28/team) and descriptive hypothesis(0.03/team) types. Content-related hypothesis(5.03/team) and process-related hypothesis(6.16/team) were usually coupled each other. Most of them had difficulties in hypothesis-from-evidence(0.31/team, 10/32 teams) in the comparison of hypothesis-from-simple conjecture(10.62/team). The quality level of content-related hypotheses(0.74point/statement) and process-related hypotheses(1.98point/statement) were very low by the hypothesis-quality scale(Quinn and George, 1975) for the content-related hypotheses and the process-related hypothesis quality scale developed in this study. There was considerable correlation between the activity score and the 1st and 2nd hypothesis in the 2 staged inquiry investigations with the 2nd and 3rd topics($0.41{\ast}$, $0.59{\ast}{\ast}$ repectively).

용액 및 용융 가공방법에 따른 PE 및 PE 공중합물의 PTC 서미스터 특성 연구 (A Study on the PTC Thermistor Characteristics of Polyethylene and Polyethylene Copolymer Composite Systems in Melt and Solution Manufacturing Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 나노입자인 카본블랙을 고분자에 분산시킨 복합체를 각각 용액혼합과 용융혼합을 이용하여 positive temperature coefficient (PTC) 특성을 연구하였다. 전도성 나노입자인 카본블랙과 고분자 복합체의 저항 통전 (threshold)은 용융혼합하였을 때 카본블랙의 함량이 35wt% 이상에서 나타났으며. 용액혼합에서는 카본블랙 함량이 40 wt% 이상에서 나타났다. Ethyl-one vinylacetate copolymer (EVA)의 경우, 온도의 변화에 따라서 저항이 서서히 증가하다가 용융점 근처에서 극대값을 나타내었지만, high density polyethylene (HDPE)의 경우는 저항이 온도의 변화에 따라 일정하다가 용융점 근처에서 증가하기 시작하여 용융점에서 극대값을 나타내었다. 통전 후의 낮은 저항과, scanning electron microscopy (SEM)으로 관찰한 결과로부터 전도성 나노입자의 카본블랙 분산방법에서 용액혼합의 분산 정도가 용융혼합 못지않게 나타났다. PTC 소재에 전류인가시 큐리온도에서 1차적으로 저항이 증가하였으며, 고분자의 용융점에서 2차적으로 트립온도가 될 때까지 저항이 증가하다가 트립온도 이후에는 저항이 일정하게 유지됨을 알 수 있었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 국내 석유화학산업에 설치 운영 중인 DCS (Distributed Control System)에 설정되어 실제 운전에 적용하고 있는 PV high trip point에 설정된 alarm의 우선순위를 ISA 18.2 국제규격 또는 EEMUA 191 guideline 에서 제시하고 있는 기준과 비교 분석하여 현재 사용 중인 공정 alarm의 우선순위 관리상태를 확인하는 것이 목적이다. 공정 문제 발생 시 과도하게 설정된 high alarm이 짧은 시간 안에 운전자에게 제공되어 최우선으로 처리해야 할 alarm을 분별하기 어려워지는 상황이 발생하게 된다. 이로 인하여 운전자가 정해진 시간 안에 적절한 조치를 진행하지 못할 가능성이 커지고 예상하지 못한 공정의 shutdown이나 공정사고로 이어지는 사례가 다수 보고되었다. 그리하여 본연구에서는 alarm 관리에 관련된 국제규격을 소개하고 국내 석유화학산업 현장에 사용하고 있는 alarm 관리 수준을 확인하여 향후 국가 산단의 석유화학 공정에 발생할 수 있는 잠재적 위험을 알리고 위험 요소를 감소시킬 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

  • The Optimization has been performed to search an economical running pattern in the view point of trip time and energy consumption. Fuzzy control model have been applied to build the meta-model. To identify the structure and its parameters of a fuzzy model, fuzzy c-means clustering method and differential evolutionary scheme are utilized, respectively. As a result, two meta-models for trip time and energy consumption were constructed. The optimization to search an economical running pattern was achieved by differential evolutionary scheme. The result shows that the proposed methodology is very efficient and conveniently applicable to the operation of railway system.

CMnAl TRIP Steel Surface Modification During CGL Processing

  • The mechanisms of selective oxidation of intercritically annealed CMnAl TRIP steels in a Continuous Galvanizing Line (GCL) were studied by cross-sectional observation of the surface and sub-surface regions by means of High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM). The selective oxidation and nitriding of an intercritically annealed CMnAl TRIP steel in a controlled dew point 10%$H_2+N_2$ atmosphere resulted in the formation of c-xMnO.$MnO_2$ (1${\leq}$x<3) and c-xMnO.$Al_2O_3$ ($x{\geq}1$) particles on the steel surface. Single crystal c-xMnO.$SiO_2$ ($2{\leq}x{\leq}4$) oxide particles were also observed on the surface. A thin film of crystalline c-xMnO.$SiO_2$ (2${\leq}$x<3) and c-xMnO.$Al_2O_3$ ($x{\geq}1$) was present between these particles. In the sub-surface region, internal oxidation, nitriding and intermetallic compound formation were observed. In the first region, large crystalline c-xMnO.$SiO_2$ ($1{\geq}x{\geq}2$) and c-xMnO.$Al_2O_3$ ($x{\geq}1$) oxides particles were present. In the second region, c-AlN particles were observed, and in a third region, small $MnAl_x$ (x>1) intermetallic compound particles were observed.

  • 무선 메쉬 네트워크는 기존 단일 홉의 AP를 통한 제한된 무선 서비스를 보다 넓은 영역으로 확장시킬 수 있다. 무선 메쉬 네트워크에서 확장된 서비스 영역에서 무선 사용자의 이동성 지원을 위해 핸드오프 연구는 중요한 문제로 인식되고 있다. 핸드오프 과정에서 소요되는 시간이 길어질 경우 데이터 손실 및 서비스 끊김 등과 같은 네트워크 성능 저하가 발생된다. 핸드 오프 지연시간의 증가는 주위 AP로부터 핸드오프에 필요한 정보를 획득하는 시간과 부정확한 핸드오프로 인한 잦은 핸드오프 가 주요 요인으로 작용한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 OTT (One-way Trip Time)를 이용한 거리 측정 기반의 핸드오프 예측 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안 알고리즘은 OTT의 장점을 활용하여 기존 선호세기 기반의 핸드오프 알고리즘에 비해 핸드오프에 필요한 정보를 짧은 시간에 획득할 수 있으며, 정확한 AP 선택 알고리즘을 통해 불필요한 핸드오프를 줄일 수 있다. 제안 알고리즘에 대한 모의실험을 수행하여 성능 분석을 하였으며, 그 결과 높은 핸드오프 정확도과 핸드오프 지연 및 불필요한 핸드오프 수행의 감소 이득을 확인할 수 있었다.

THE BENCHMARK CALCULATIONS OF THE GAMMA+ CODE WITH THE HTR-10 SAFETY DEMONSTRATION EXPERIMENTS

  • KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) has developed the GAMMA+ code for a thermo-fluid and safety analysis of a VHTR (Very High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor). A key safety issue of the VHTR design is to demonstrate its inherent safety features for an automatic reactor power trip and power stabilization during an anticipated transient without scram (ATWS) accident such as a loss of forced cooling by a trip of the helium circulator (LOFC) or a reactivity insertion by a control rod withdrawal (CRW). This paper intends to show the ATWS assessment capability of the GAMMA+ code which can simulate the reactor power response by solving the point-kinetic equations with six-group delayed neutrons, by considering the reactivity changes due to the effects of a core temperature variation, xenon transients, and reactivity insertions. The present benchmark calculations are performed by using the safety demonstration experiments of the 10 MW high temperature gas cooled-test module (HTR-10) in China. The calculation results of the power response transients and the solid core temperature behavior are compared with the experimental data of a LOFC ATWS test and two CRW ATWS tests by using a 1mk-control rod and a 5mk-control rod, respectively. The GAMMA+ code predicts the power response transients very well for the LOFC and CRW ATWS tests in HTR-10.

FLB Event Analysis with regard to the Fuel Failure

  • Detailed analysis of Feedwater Line Break (FLB) event for the fuel failure point of view are lack because the event was characterized as the increase in reactor coolant system (RCS) pressure. Up to now, the potential of the rapid system heatup case has been emphasized and comprehensively studied. The cooldown effects of FLB event is considered to be bounded by the Steam Line Break (SLB) event since the cooldown effect of SLB event is larger than that of the FLB event. This analysis provides a new possible path which can cause the fuel failure. The new path means that the fuel failure can occur under the heatup scenario because the Pressurizer Safety Valves (PSVs) open before the reactor trips. The 1000 MWe typical C-E plant FLB event assuming Loss of Offsite Power (LOOP) at the turbine trip has been analyzed as an example and the results show less than 1% of the fuel failure. The result is well within the acceptance criteria. In addition to that, a study was accomplished to prevent the fuel failure for the heatup scenario case as an example. It is found that giving the proper pressure gap between High Pressurizer Pressure Trip (HPPT) analysis setpoint and the minimum PSV opening pressure could prevent the fuel failure.
