Education emphasizes problem-solving skills based on convergent thinking power in an era of rising uncertainty and rapid progress. This paper proactively designed e-Learning team teaching convergence liberal arts courses for prospective teachers by these social needs. It analyzed the empirical effects on the operation of the subjects to foster future talent who can converge and apply knowledge in various fields. The curriculum consisted of professors of mathematics, practical Arts, computer, and education, and was operated to convey convergent knowledge of information technology and humanities, and consisted of 15 liberal arts courses at J University. Besides, textbooks and teaching materials were also developed by the faculty. As a result of the primary research, prospective teachers who took the course generally showed high satisfaction with the class, especially for the faculty. The students' overall convergent thinking ability has increased to a statistically significant level (p<.01), and the students' major has been found to be irrelevant. On the other hand, it can be seen that communication, content convergence, and caring factors, excluding creativity factor, have all risen to a significant level.
Korea, China and Japan show distinct features in their school environmental education, which are derived from their own spreading processes. Japanese school environmental education has developed as a result of assimilating of anti-pollution education and nature education, and has a feature that makes much of nature experiences. The introduction of 'Period for Integrated Study' in 2002 seems to begin activating Japanese school environmental education. Chinese school environmental education started in higher education institutions around the middle of 1970's, and has a feature that makes a point of scientific approach, even in primary education schools. The two government ordinances,'National Action Program for Environmental General Knowledge ($1996{\sim}2010$)' and 'Educational Scheme of Environmental Theme Study for Elementary and Secondary School Students' issued in 2003, gradually promote school environmental education in China. It is remarkable that Science and Technology Centers for Youth and also increasing environmental NPOs often support environmental activities in elementary or secondary schools. The most notable feature of Korean school environmental education is that 'Environment' has already offered as a regular elective subject in junior high school, and official 'Environment' textbook has published since early 1990's. Though, the adoption rate of 'Environment' is not yet so high. Each country's peculiar issues are as follows. Japan: (1) Students often lack basic knowledge about environmental important problems. (2) 'Period for Integrated Study' is now threatened with cutting hours by the idea of increasing periods for basic subjects to keep high achievement. China: (1) There are large regional differences and school distinctions in operation of environmental education. (2) Adult environmental education needs to be expanded, because the most part of Chinese have no experience of school environmental education. Korea: (1) The relationship between the administrative division which plans school environmental education and teachers group is not quite well. The adoption rate of 'Environment' in junior high school needs to be improved. The training of many teachers for environmental education instructors may be the most important and effective cooperative action among Korea, China and Japan, and for that purpose we ought to work on making a better handbook for instructors, at first.

A common snapping turtle Chelydra serpentina inhabiting North America is internationally protected as an endangered species. It is known that the individuals of common snapping turtles were imported to South Korea as pets, and after being abandoned, some inhabit the natural ecosystem of South Korea like wild animals. No genetic survey has yet been performed for the common snapping turtles imported to South Korea. Hereby, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) information, which is 594 bp long, was determined for a total of 16 C. serpentina individuals, of which one was found in nature, twelve legally imported and their descendants, and the other three were provided from the Kansas Herpetological Society, USA. The obtained data were combined with thirteen COI sequences of C. serpentina retrieved from NCBI GenBank for the subsequent population genetic analyses. The results showed that there exist five haplotypes with high sequence similarity (only three parsimoniously informative sites). In the TCS and phylogenetic analyses, all the examined C. serpentina samples coincidently formed a strong monoclade with those collected mostly from Kansas State, USA, indicating that the imported ones to South Korea are from the central North America. In addition, there found the amino acid changes and the high degree of nucleotide sequence differences between C. serpentina and C. rossignoni with some important morphological characters. It is expected that the present results could provide an important framework for systematic management and control of exotic snapping turtles imported and released to nature of South Korea.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the elementary preservice teachers' conceptions about 'plastics' focusing on non-polar property from a National University of Education. For the study, the views about plastics, relative shapes of a water droplet on plastic or glass material, and relative shapes of water surface in the plastic or glass measuring cylinder were surveyed from the preservice teachers. And the responses were analyzed based on the patterns. The results from the study are as follows: First, most preservice teachers were well aware of the plastic products which are used in daily life. Second, the responses concerning the reason why plastics can be used commonly were divided into 2 categories with 14 sub-level groups. However relatively few preservice teachers mentioned regarding 'chemical stability' and 'conductivity', which are associated with the plastics' non-polar property. Third, it was found that 50 participants (30.1%) had 'Scientific conception (Sc)', 38 (22.9%) had 'Partial-scientific conception (Ps)', 66 (39.8%) had 'Misconception (Mc)', and 12 (7.2%) had 'No conception (Nc)' on the subject of the relative shapes of a water droplet. Fourth, the distribution patterns and the ratio of the preservice teachers' conception on the survey question 3 concerning the relative shapes of water surface were quite similar to those of the survey question 2. So it was concluded that overall understanding level of the preservice teachers was pretty low on the subjects of the relative polarities of the plastic, glass, and water as well as their interactions. Fifth, the distribution percentile of 'Sc'/'Ps'/'Mc'/'Nc' was not related with the gender but highly correlated with preservice teachers' academic field and their science subjects taken in high school. Based on the results from the study, some educational guidelines were suggested.
Even though there are extracurricular mathematics classes for gifted students in all levels of schools in Korea, teachers cannot conduct the classes properly because the contents of the textbook are not adequate for the purpose of the classes. So, what they tend to do in the classes is just drilling with many problems which have already shown up at university entrance examinations and various mathematics competitions. The purpose of this paper is to give an example of what the content should be in "Mathematics III" (an elective subject for the science high school students according to the fifth and sixth amendment of national curriculum) and to suggest how to design the extracurricular classes for gifted students. Extracurricular classes of the ordinary secondary school as well as the elective course for the science high school can be suitably designed with choices of topics in the contents of Mathematics III.

In this study, we surveyed the 68 teachers from eight science high school and four science academy for the gifted through questionnaires about research ethics education and ethical research environment in Korea. First, we examined the current state of research ethics education. Half of the responding schools included research ethics education in their curriculum. Although only half of the schools have this in their curriculum, more than half of the total number of teachers surveyed personally taught research ethics in class, and almost 90% of the teachers said they taught the research ethics during students' research activity. However, 63.24% of teachers said that research ethics education was not enough still. Second, we investigated the ethical research environment. In terms of knowledge and experience, the teachers were competent, and they were creating an environment that enabled peers and self-verification. However, research ethics, regulations and verification systems are not well equipped in schools. Since the principals are highly interested in research ethics education, there seems to be enough improvement on the ethical research environment. Finally, teachers said that additional research ethics education, change in student attitude, development and continuous maintenance of the verification system, encouragement to develop ethical environment, and clear guidelines were needed for ethical research of students. The result of this research will be able to provide the following. First, it will help set up a direction for research ethics education at every gifted school. Second, it will provide insights on how schools and teachers can create an ethical research environment for the students of science-gifted students.

In this study, find out of recognition of the effect of science, society and ethical aspects on natural disasters and understanding degree of knowledge applying for SSI class aimed at elementary pre-service teachers by developing SSI training program of the 'Earth and Space' field. Also, after SSI class application we examined the change perceptions of elementary pre-service teachers. SSI training program was that elementary pre-service teachers participated in the SSI class of a variety of subjects in the field of 'Earth and Space' and directly joined in the decision-making process and reflectional discussion with colleagues as conducted in this class reflective discussion with the pre-primary teachers pre-service teachers. Elementary pre-service teachers were understanding of the nature of the science and to understand in more depth about the SSI class characteristics. This study, second grade 115 people who was taking 'science and teaching materials' course in B National University of Education at B city participated. In order to apply for SSI class, one semester based on 15 weeks until seven weeks were science and teaching materials and based on the nature of science, after 8 weeks we set the theme of the contents related to the Earth and space and give lesson applied for SSI. During 8 weeks, test subjects 4 classes were taking 50 minutes a week 100 minutes. First time has theoretical lessons in topics related to the 'Earth and space' and on the second week, each classes participate in the decision-making processes respectivly by dicussing and debating on the first week's topic as regarding social and moral aspects of it. We obtained the following results. First, elementary pre-service teachers were acquiring the results of 67% in the knowledge aspects of the 'Earth and space'. This result was determined that most of the elementary pre-service teachers were liberal arts in high school. Second, while participating in the SSI class, elementary pre-service teachers were concretely aware of the nature of SSI and the characteristics of the class. Third, the elementary pre-service teacher are thaught that introduction education courses about 'Earth and space' are needed but most of the students responded that this would require a lot of effort of teachers. This was derived from not familiar class form that did not fulfill in the science teaching methods until now.

This study analyzed current programs practiced by science-gifted education centers. This study was based on concerns of 18 science teachers on six science-gifted education centers of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education that had local representatives. For this study, we collected data using journals, documents, reports, survey reviews and interviews with science teachers. Science teachers were concerned about the selection and identification of gifted students, education periods, curriculum, and student evaluation. More authentic measurement for students' potential ability were needed for the identification and selection process. If the purpose of science-gifted centers was to be met, the number of students selected should be determined by local differences rather than regional equality. The curriculum and educational period could make good use of time allotted for vacation to increase lesson periods. Lessons based on strategies like contests for improving the students' creativity, free inquiry and communication skills had to be encouraged. A consistent system for science-gifted education from primary school to high school was needed.

The purpose of this study is to analyze what kinds of science education theories are targeted in the "Examination for Appointing Secondary School Science Teachers (EASST)." For the analyses, we extracted the contents related to the science education theories in the question items of the EASST of 2008 through 2012, and categorized those theories into science curriculum, history of science and philosophy of science, scientific inquiry, theory of teaching and learning, model of teaching and learning, and assessment. The results of this study indicated that the theory of teaching and learning appeared most frequently and there were high proportions of question items related to the following topics: contents in science curriculum, scientific method, contemporary philosophy of science, process of inquiry, Ausubel's theory, learning cycle model by Lawson, cooperative learning, criteria of performance assessment, and etc. While we, as science educators, believed that the other categories such as 'history of science' provides important topics for pre-service science teachers, questions items dealing with those were rarely found in the past EASSTs. As EASST has strong influences on the professional developments of pre-service science teachers, more research should be pursued on how much and what domains of science education theories would be appropriate for the test.
The aim of this study was to reduce the number of negligent accidents by improving the fire safety consciousness of infant and child teachers working in a day care center. For this purpose, 242 early childhood teachers working in the national nursery school in Daejeon and Chungcheongnam-do were surveyed. For the survey, the questionnaire consisted of job satisfaction, teacher's efficacy, and fire safety consciousness. The survey data were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 win program. The factor of job satisfaction and teacher's efficacy had a significant positive influence on the fire safety consciousness of the early childhood teachers (<.05). The teacher's efficacy was found to mediate the relationship between the job satisfaction and fire safety consciousness. In conclusion, this study suggests that teacher's fire safety consciousness is high when the teacher's job satisfaction and efficacy are high. This study is expected to contribute to basic research to increase the teachers' consciousness of fire safety.
