  • A first evaluation of the possibilities of high speed trains in conventional railway in Korea have been investigated. The radius of curvature was considered the major problem with high-speed trains in Korea. If KNR(Korea National railway) likes to increase the speed, is then whether KNR shall construct straigthen the track or develop a train that can reduce travel time in curves The research concerns structural design of train car-body is to reduce heavy stress concentration. Using 3D solid modeling, Finite Element analysis and shape optimization combined with powerful postprocessing, graphical display and animation to achieve complete and accurate design and performance will be carried out further project Main purpose of this project is to provide korean tilting train car body's conceptional design. Based on first year research results, the design of car-body will be performed by train manufacture.

  • This paper presents a PFC(Power Factor Correction) system to control the power factor of input current of the converter system which is working in the propulsion system of KTX high speed train. In the KTX train system, initially introduced from ALSTOM, the thyristor converter with phase controlling technique is adopted in the current fed type powering system. The input current induces harmonic losses highly because the waveform becomes rectangular shapes according to the filter inductor current increased as the train speed increasing gradually. Especially the interference with the signalling systems is severe concerned due to high current harmonics on the catenary line. To protect this problem, a frequency trap filter(notch filter) is operating with the input converter system. In this paper, an analysis work and PC simulation have been done on the PFC system to upgrade its performance and maintenance efficiency.

  • The psychophysical magnitude estimation thechnique can provide a useful tool for determining the best design features of a product in terms of user preference, especially when it is difficult or almost impossible to obtain objective and quantitative data on the user performance. In this research, several interior design features of a high speed train such as arrangement of passenger seats, and availability of interior facilities were examined quantitatively to provide interior design recommendations for the high speed train. A train simulator was built to provide a realistic interior enviror enviroment of the high speed train, and individual design features were manipulated by using a three-factor within-subject experimental design. At the same time, a psychophysical scale of verbal descriptors ranging from "extremly like" to "extremly dislike" was developed to explain the magnitude estimates of the design features in ordinary language.n ordinary language.

  • This paper presents a modelling methodology using fuzzy logic and train performance simulation for determining an economical running pattern for a high speed train which minimizes energy consumption under an given trip margin. The economical running pattern is defined with an economical maximum speed in traction phase, a speed at the end of coasting. As a case study, the simulation is carried out for an economical run of korea high speed train prototype, and the results of fuzzy model described.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate stability of a high speed train and to propose optimal design using sensitivity analysis of suspension design parameters. A form of equations of motion in tangent track and curve track is obtained based on each creep force. Tangent track and curve track equations include lateral, rolling and yawing motions of wheel sets, bogies, and carbodies. Three track cases have been chosen to stability assesment of a high speed train analysis. Sensitivity equations are set up by directly differentiating the equations of motion. This study def'.led Stability performance index of a high speed train in tangent track and curve track. The relative magnitude of the effect of suspension parameters on the critical speed is computed, and by adjusting these parameters, the increase of the critical speed is achieved.

  • The most important thing to secure safety and reliability of railway vehicles is to verify performance characteristics of equipments, and related companies or research institutes had many efforts to verify performances and functions of equipments synthetically and efficiently. KHST(Korean High Speed Train) has been developed by KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute). An electric railway system is composed of high-tech subsystems, among which main electric equipment such as transformers and converter are critical components determining the performance of rolling stock. We developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of KHST. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. A new method to measure temperature was applied to the ]measurement system. By using the system, fault diagnosis and performance evaluation of electric equipment in Korean High Speed Train was conducted during test running.

  • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high-speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually. KHST(Korean High Speed Train) has been developed by KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute) for last 6 years to satisfy the need. • The aim of this paper is to provide a guide to those methods of train detection which are available, or are likely to become available, to the designer of train control or other relevant systems. In broad terms, train detection may be defined as the process of generating information which describes the location and movement of trains. Train detection information is difficult to define in isolation. Consider, for example, the train detection information required in a modern train control system. This may vary considerably : in a future high performance train control system, it might be necessary to know the precise position, direction of movement, speed, and possibly even the acceleration or braking, of all trains in the control area : in a less demanding application, it might be sufficient to know only the location of trains in terms of the occupation of sections of track.
