In this review the methods for production and processing of isolated or agglomerated nanoscale metal particles embedded in organic liquids (nanosuspensions) and polymer matrix composites are elucidated. Emphasis is laid on the techniques of inert gas condensation (IGC) and high pressure sputtering for obtaining highly porous metal powders ("nanopowder") as well as on vacuum evaporation on running liquids for obtaining nanosuspensions. Functional properties and post-processing are outlined in view of applications in the fields of electrically conductive adhesives and anti-microbially active materials for medical articles and consumer goods.mer goods.
In this work, the surface properties and mechanical interfacial properties of the carbon blacks treated by oxygen plasma were investigated. The surface properties of carbon black by oxidation process of oxygen plasma were studied in acid-base surface value, zeta potential, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). And their mechanical interfacial properties of the carbon black/rubber composites were evaluated by the composite tearing energy ($G_{III}c$). As a result, it was found that the introduction rate of oxygen-containing polar functional groups, such as carboxyl, hydroxyl, lactone, and carbonyl groups, onto the carbon black surfaces was increased by increasing the plasma treatment time. It revealed that the polar rubber, such as acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), showed relatively a high degree of interaction with oxygen-containing functional groups of the carbon black surfaces, resulting in improving the tearing energy ($G_{III}c$) of the carbon black/acrlyonitrile butadiene rubber composites.
In this work, $SnO_2$ modified with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) separately and combined sensitized by using the co-precipitation method and their sensing behavior toward ethanol vapor at room temperature were investigated. An interdigitated electrode (IDE) gold substrate is very expensive compared to a fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate; hence, we used the latter to reduce the fabrication cost. The structure and the morphology of the studied materials were characterized by using differential thermal analyses (DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) pore size measurements. The studied composites were subjected to ethanol in its gas phase at concentrations from 10 to 200 ppm. The present composites showed high-performance sensitivity for many reasons: the incorporation of $SnO_2$ and CNTs which prevents the agglomeration of rGO sheets, the formation of a 3D mesopourus structure and an increase in the surface area. The decoration with rGO and CNTs led to more active sites, such as vacancies, which increased the adsorption of ethanol gas. In addition, the mesopore structure and the nano size of the $SnO_2$ particles allowed an efficient diffusion of gases to the active sites. Based on these results, the present composites should be considered as efficient and low-cost sensors for alcohol.
In this work, the effect of anodic oxidation on surface characteristics of high strength PAN-based carbon fibers was investigated in mechanical interfacial properties of composites. The surface properties of the carbon fibers were determined by acid-base values, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and contact angles. And their mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were studied in interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$). As a result, the acidity or the $O_{ls}/C_{ls}$ ratio of carbon fiber surfaces was increased, due to the development of the oxygen functional groups. Consequently, the anodic oxidation led to an increase in surface free energy of the carbon fibers, mainly due to the increase of its specific (or polar) component. The mechanical interfacial properties of the composites, including ILSS and $K_{IC}$, had been improved in the anodic oxidation on fibers. These results were explained that good wetting played an important role in improving the degree of adhesion at interfaces between fibers and epoxy resin matrix.

Development of simple and efficient method for large-scale production of mechanically strong and electrically conductive graphene fiber is highly desirable for practical applications, such as fiber-reinforced composites, wearable electronics, and electromagnetic irradiation shielding. Here, we present a facile approach for the preparation of amine-functionalized graphene fibers by simple wet-spinning of diamine-functionalized graphene oxide (GO-$NH_2$), which is used because of its synthetic convenience, good dispersity, and scalable production with low cost. The amine-functionalized graphene fiber shows high electrical and mechanical properties compared to pristine graphene oxide fiber due to the electrostatic interaction between amine groups and electronegative functional groups of graphene oxide.
In this work, the effect of chemical surface treatments on morphology of carbon blacks was investigated in terms of cure behavior and tearing energy ($G_T$) of carbon blacks/rubber composites. As experimental results, the polar or nonpolar chemical treatment led to a significant physical change of carbon black morphology. The cure activation energies (Ea) and frequency factor (A) obtained from Kissinger equation decreased with improving the dispersion of carbon flacks, resulting in high reactivity. However, a significant advantage of carbon black/rubber composites is gained by carbon blacks treated in basic (BCB) or nonpolar (NCB) chemical solution, resulting in increasing the tearing energy. These results could be explained by changes of dispersion, agglomerate, surface functional group, void volume, and cross-linking density of carbon black/rubber composites.
As awareness of environmental issues continues to grow, there is an escalating demand for recycling and repurposing byproducts of agricultural and food production processes and their conversion to high-value products. Coffee is the most widely consumed beverage globally; during coffee beverage processing and consumption, byproducts such as coffee silverskin (CS), spent coffee grounds (SCGs), and oil are generated. Despite containing beneficial materials such as cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, lipids, and bioactive substances, these byproducts are typically discarded in landfills or incinerated. The utilization of CS, SCGs, and oil in the development of packaging materials holds significant potentials toward the realization of a sustainable society. To this end, considerable research efforts have been dedicated to the development of high-value materials derived from coffee byproducts, including functional fillers, polymer composites, and biodegradable polymers. Notably, CS and SCGs have been employed as functional fillers in polymer composites. Additionally, lipids extracted from SCGs have been used as plasticizers for polymers and cultured with microorganisms to produce biodegradable polymers. This review focuses on the research and development of polymer/CS and polymer/SCG composites as well as cellulose extraction and utilization from CS and SCGs and its applications, oil extraction from SCGs, and cultivation with microorganisms using extracted oil for polyhydroxyalkanoates(PHA) production.

Considerable progress has been made in organic photorefractive materials, since the first observation of photorefractive phenomena from organic materials. Within recent years, a large number of organic photorefractive materials, especially amorphous materials, have been developed based on polymeric composites, fully functional polymers and the multi-functional chromophore approach. Among these organic photorefractive materials, some of them containing carbazole components as a charge transporting function have been demonstrated to exhibit high performance photorefractive effects. The carbazole building blocks with charge transporting function or multifunctions play a very important role in photorefraction. In this paper, it confirmed that acceptor-substituted carbazoles show the multifunctionality both of photoconductivity and electro-optic(EO) activity and photorefractive materials newly can be developed with acceptor-substituted carbazoles.
This research was conducted to analyze the compatibility of used monomers and produce the high functional contact lens material containing silicone monomers. Silicone monomer (Sil-OH), Trimethylsilylmethacrylate (TSMA) were used as additives for the basic combination of Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane (POSS), methyl methacrylate (MMA) and methyl acrylate (MA). And also, the materials were copolymerized with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the cross-linking agent, AIBN (thermal polymerization initiator) as the initiator. It is judged that the fabricated lenses of all combinations are optically excellent and thus used monomers have good compatibility. Measurement of the optical and physical characteristics of the manufactured hydrophilic lens material were varied in each case. Especially TSMA with POSS increases the oxygen permeability and Sil-OH with POSS increases the wettability by the addition of Sil-OH. These materials were considered to have compatibility each other, so it can be used in functional contact lens material.
Wood Plastic Composite(WPC) has been introduced as a new constructional material in Europe and North America. The maintenance-free durability against weather was accepted by customers and the environment-friendly merits ignited the abrupt increase of market size. Domestic major companies have kicked off the WPC business at the market of outdoor constructional materials. Due to the high contents of natural wood fiber, the production equipments should be modified to remove the moisture, to prevent thermal degradation and to promote output rates. Materials including functional fillers play a critical role in rheological properties, which affects the physical and mechanical properties of the last products. More research might be performed for synergy effects combined by various academic fields from mechanical and chemical engineering to polymer process and material science.
