  • As the optical communication industry is developed, the demand of optical communication part is increasing. $ZrO_2$ ceramic ferrule is very important part which can determines the transmission efficiency and information quality to connect the optical fibers. In general $ZrO_2$ ceramic ferrule is manufactured by grinding process because the demands precision is very high. For the precision grinding machining, it is very important that the error of feeding system is improved. Therefore, we estimated the dynamic characteristics in feeding system of ultra precision co-axial grinding machining system. Then, we performed the machining characteristics experiment.

ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is very important part which can determines the transmission efficiency and information quality to connect the optical fibers. In general ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is manufactured by grinding process because the demands precision is very high. And the co-axle grinding process of ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is to make its concentricity all of uniform before centerless grinding. This paper deals with the analysis of the process parameters such as grinding wheel speed, grinding feedrate and regulating wheel speed as influential factors, on the concentricity and surface finish developed based on Taguchi's experimental design methods. Taguchi s tools such as orthogonal array, signal-to-noise ratio, factor effect analysis, etc. have been used for this purpose optimal condition has been found out. Thus, if possible be finding highly efficient and quality grinding conditions.

  • Using zirconium ceramics makes the ferrule, which is the part of optical communications. The quality of optical communications is directly affected by the concentricity of the optic ferrule. The products of optic ferrule should be meet the following general conditions which are the outer diameter of 2.5mm and the inner diameter of 0.125mm, and high quality conditions which are the concentricity of 0.1~$0.3\mu\textrm{m}$, the form accuracy of $0.2\mu\textrm{m}$, the roundness and the cylindricity of $0.1\mu\textrm{m}$ and the surface roughness of 10nm. Generally, the diamond wheel is used for the high efficiency and precision grinding of the materials. It is good for keeping the shape as it has little wear. Because of the loading phenomena, however, it is difficult to keep the fresh surface of the wheel. In grinding process, grinding fragments resemble fine powders rather than chips. It can easily get attached to the wheel surface and thus cause a loading. The loading takes place, in which the impurities stick to the wheel surface, and the grinding characteristics of wheel is deteriorated. To prevent all of these, a suitable dressing method should be used for the wheel. In this research, the dressing system fur co-axial grinding machine was designed and produced for the machining of ferrule, which is a high performance part. The performance of the developed dressing system was evaluated by measuring the form accuracy of ferrule, which is machined by the dressed wheel in developed dressing system.

  • This study has been focused on an effective surface finishing method combining ELID (ELectrolytic In-process Dressing) and MAP (Magnetic Assisted Polishing) for the nano-precision mirror grinding of glass-lens molding mould. ELID grinding is an excellent technique for mirror grinding of various advanced metallic or nonmetallic materials. A polishing process is also required for elimination of scratches present on ELID grinded surfaces. MAP has been used as polishing method due to its high polishing efficiency and superior surface quality. It also presents some techniques for achieving the nanometer roughness of the hard material such as WC-Co, which are extensively used in precision tooling material.

  • Development of diamond wheel with fine grains and multi-pore structures were newely attempted. Wheels, that are employed for ultra precision and high performance grinding of difficult-to materials such as tungsten carbide alloy using tool and die materials, must have both performances to remove tool marks efficiently and to contact elastically with curved surfaces. Diamond grains were bonded firmly by a melamine resin to prevent the decrease of machining efficiency due to grain sinking within the bond materials. Also, highly foamed structures were developed to increase the flexibility of the wheel, and to induce active self-sharpening by increasing contact pressure between the wheel and work surfaces. In this paper, melamine-bonded diamond wheels are trial manufactured, then the forming method of wheels are suggested, and the grinding characteristics of wheels are also illustrated.

This study intends to analyze the boiler efficiency through the pulverizer classifier-rotary type improvement in thermal power plant and makes its comparison to that of the used fixed type.

When co-axle grinding of ferrule supported by two pin, pin chucking alignment accuracy is very important. This paper deals with the analysis of the chucking alignment experiment with parallel error on the micro feeding equipment. Thus, if possible be finding highly good the chucking alignment of two pin.

  • This study intended to manufacture high quality cement, such as solving the quality problem of cement which has been emerging recently, along with improving grinding efficiency. To this end, the synthesis of melamine-functional pulverizing agents and the physical properties of cement applying them were reviewed and the reaction was carried out by dividing the melamine airborne compound into three stages of polymerization using methylation, sulfonation, and acid catalyst to improve the crushing efficiency of cement clinker and the physical properties of manufactured cement. The obtained melamine type copolymer was applied to the grinding process of cement clinker. And it's grinding efficiency and compressive strength were compared with DEG(diethylene glycol) and TIPA(triisopropanol amine). When it comes to the grinding efficiency, by lowering surface energy with stable adsorption from organic polymer to cement particles, the fineness showed 4-6% up. In the meantime, the compression strength hiked 30% from its initial strength compared to the conventional DEG. At the age of 28days, the strength showed approximately 13% improvement. Therefore, it is confirmed that the overall quality has been elevated in comparison with the conventional one.

A Study on Characteristics of Die Finishing Using Conductive Elastic Tool (도전성 탄성공구를 이용한 금형연마 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The finishing process for dies and molds is an important process because it has influence on final quality of products. And it is difficult to automatize finishing process so that the process has depended on expert's skill until now. However, recently a study on development of die automatic finishing machine has been progressed, and actually this machine is applied to fabrication of die. But the research about tooling system is not enough and finishing tool must have high machining efficiency and adaptability of curved surface. So, this study investigated the application of conductive elastic tool which is composed of metal-resin bonded pellet and elastic backing material. The metal-resin bonded pellet is used to finish the surface by conventional mechanical grinding or electro-chemial grinding method. And elastic backing material is used to follow the curved surface. So conductive elastic tool has long lifetime, uniform removal rate and adaptability of curved surface.
