  • There is asymmetric in horizontal and vertical side of PDP cell. Every vertical line has BM(Black Mask) to improve luminance contrast. When error diffusion is processed in PDP system, these problems make an error bigger. In 4 inch PDP system, every red, green, blue color of test pattern is presented and each luminance is measured. That is called horizontal(H), diagonal right(R), diagonal left(L) and vertical(V). In red channel, high luminance descending order is V-H-R-L. In green channel, V-H-L-R. In blue channel, V-M-R=L. After average luminance of each direction is calculated. new weighted error diffusion(Weighted ED) is proposed. In digital image signal processing, the error in weighted ED is differ from ED's. The image of weighted ED is more less error compare to conventional ED and close to original image. As the gray level linearity and big size panel is adopted, weighted ED could produce good image.

  • For several years, many researchers have proposed LED backlight dimming technology for low power consumption and high contrast ratio. One of the major issues plaguing RGB LED with 2D dimming technology is color shift. This undesirable variation makes it difficult to use RGB LED as light sources in the backlight system. This paper describes the useful method of the optical feedback system for 2D dimming RGB LED backlight. The test results show that our proposed method is very suitable for the 2D dimming technology.

  • Pyramid fusion usually adjusts the Laplacian weights of pixels of the input images by evaluating predefined criteria. This has advantages that it can selectively express intense color and enhance the contrast when applied to HDR exposure fusion. But it may cause noise because the weights are determined by pixel importance without considering the interdependent pixel relationship that constitutes a scene. This paper proposes a fusion method using simple weight criteria generated from the gray pixel values, which is expected to preserve the interdependent relationship and improve execution speed. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method we examine a homogeneity measure, H and compare the execution time for both methods. The proposed method is found to be more advantageous with respect to homogeneity and execution speed.

  • Dehazing significantly improves image quality by restoring the loss of contrast and color saturation for images taken in the presence. However, when applied to images not taken according to the prior information, dehazing can cause unintended degradation of image quality. To avoid unintended degradations, we present a hazy scene detection algorithm using a single image based on the distributions of hue, saturation, and dark channel. Through a heuristic approach, we find out statistical characteristics of the distribution of hue, saturation, and dark channels in the hazy scene and make a detection model using them. The proposed method can precede the dehazing to prevent unintended degradation. The detection performance evaluated with a set of test images shows a high hit rate with a low false alarm ratio. Ultimately the proposed method can be used to control the effect of dehazing so that the dehazing can be applied to wide variety of images without unintended degradation of image quality.

  • Underwater images often suffer from color distortion, blurring and low contrast, which is caused by the propagation of light in the underwater environment being affected by the two processes: absorption and scattering. To cope with the poor quality of underwater images, this paper proposes a multiscale fusion underwater image enhancement method based on channel attention mechanism and local binary pattern (LBP). The network consists of three modules: feature aggregation, image reconstruction and LBP enhancement. The feature aggregation module aggregates feature information at different scales of the image, and the image reconstruction module restores the output features to high-quality underwater images. The network also introduces channel attention mechanism to make the network pay more attention to the channels containing important information. The detail information is protected by real-time superposition with feature information. Experimental results demonstrate that the method in this paper produces results with correct colors and complete details, and outperforms existing methods in quantitative metrics.

  • The merging of different scales or multi-sensor image data is becoming a widely used procedure of the complementary nature of various data sets. Ideally, the merging method should not distort the characteristics of the high-spatial and high-spectral resolution data used. To present an effective merging method for survey of reclaimed land using the high-resolution (6.6 m) Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) panchromatic image of the first Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite 1 (KOMPSA T-l) and the multispectral Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image data, this paper compares the results of Intensity Hue Saturation (IHS) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) methods. The comparison is made by statistical and visual evaluation of three-color combination images of IHS and PCA results based on spatial and spectral characteristics. The use of MODIS bands 1, 2, and 3 with a contrast stretched EOC panchromatic image as a substitute for intensity was found to be particularly effective in this study.

  • Recently, the HDR imaging technique that mimics human eye is incorporated with LCD/LED display devices to deal with mismatch between the real world scene and the displayed image. However, HDR image has a veiling glare limit as well as a scale of the local contrast problem. In order to overcome these problems, several color correction methods, CSR(center/surround Retinex), MSR (Multi-Scale Retinex), tone-mapping method, iCAM06 and so on, are proposed. However, these methods have a dominated color throughout the entire resulting image after performing color correction. Accordingly, this paper presents a new color correction method using dynamic cone response function. The proposed color correction method consists of tone-mapping and dynamic cone response. The tone-mapping is obtained by using a linear interpolation between chromatic and achromatic. Thereafter, the resulting image is processed through the dynamic cone response function, which estimates the dynamic responses of human visual system as well as deals with mismatch between the real scene image and the rendered image. The experiment results show that the proposed method yields better performance of color correction over the conventional methods.

  • These days, as digital producing technique has been developed, 3D imaging technique is used in high-tech computer and T.V. Also study for 3D producing technique is actively in progress. Moreover, as James Cameron's movie, 'Avatar' released in 2009 was a box office hit, the issue about 3D image came to the fore again. At this point, I decided to study the effect of the visual depth caused by the color correction during the post-production stage. The purpose of this study is to offer information about processing effective images through data about the effect of the visual depth that applies the color correction during the post-production stage. Basically, I supposed that color and contract would have effects on depth of 3D image. As a result, I could find out the changes of visual depth, space perception and sense of depth throughout the experiment. Applying this result,, I produced the 15 minutes of 3D advertisement movie and I found out that the color correction during the post-production stage was very effective for 3D depth. The left image and the right image by beam splitter based rig and parallel rig were used for this study. Also I adjusted the strong contrast by the color correction during the post-production stage after correcting convergence and visual depth during editing. As a result, I could produce images which had strong sense of space and sense of depth.

  • Construction accidents in Korea are continuously increasing. Safety signs with high visibility color can diminish such accidents in dangerous places. In order for safety color to be more effective as a global communication means in construction sites, it needs to be checked out whether safety color standard reflect the characteristics of construction industry such as worker or work environment. This paper compared safety color standards among Korea, the US, the UK, and Australia. First, blue color was included in all, which should be corrected considering aged workers increasing in construction industry. Because with age, the ability to distinguish between blue, purple, and gray colors decreases. Second, Korea, which has only single code designated to safety colors, should find alternatives like tolerance to be applicable to a variety of light environments on construction sites, as the contrast which affect the visibility may decrease in dark conditions.
