Stereoscopic (S3D) displays present different images to the two eyes. Temporal multiplexing and spatial multiplexing are two common techniques for accomplishing this. We compared the effective resolution provided by these two techniques. In a psychophysical experiment, we measured resolution at various viewing distances on a display employing temporal multiplexing, and on another display employing spatial multiplexing. In another experiment, we simulated the two multiplexing techniques on one display and again measured resolution. The results show that temporal multiplexing provides greater effective resolution than spatial multiplexing at short and medium viewing distances, and that the two techniques provide similar resolution at long viewing distance. Importantly, we observed a significant difference in resolution at the viewing distance that is generally recommended for high-definition television.
With the increasing need for high temporal resolution satellite imagery for monitoring land surfaces, this study evaluated the temporal resolution of the NDVI composites from Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) data. The GOCI is the first geostationary satellite sensor designed to provide continuous images over a $2,500{\times}2,500km^2$ area of the northeast Asian region with relatively high spatial resolution of 500 m. We used total 2,944 hourly images of the GOCI level 1B radiance data obtained during the one-year period from April 2011 to March 2012. A daily NDVI composite was produced by maximum value compositing of eight hourly images captured during day-time. Further NDVI composites were created with different compositing periods ranging from two to five days. The cloud coverage of each composite was estimated by the cloud detection method developed in study and then compared with the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Aqua cloud product and 16-day NDVI composite. The GOCI NDVI composites showed much higher temporal resolution with less cloud coverage than the MODIS NDVI products. The average of cloud coverage for the five-day GOCI composites during the one year was only 2.5%, which is a significant improvement compared to the 8.9%~19.3% cloud coverage in the MODIS 16-day NDVI composites.
MODIS images have a great advantage of high temporal resolution to monitor land cover changes in a large area. The moderate and low spatial resolution satellite images are incomparably economic than high resolution satellite images. As diverse satellite images are provided recently, strategies using satellite images are necessary for continuous, effective and long-term land monitoring. This research purposed to use MODIS images to monitor land cover in Korean peninsula for long-term and continuous change detection. To maximize the advantages of high temporal resolution, the change detection was based on the MODIS temporal profiles of the surface reflectance for one year. In this study as the reflectance patterns of year 2005 were compared with the reflectance patterns of year 2007, the changed pixels could be detected during two years. To set up the threshold value for the decision of change, ASTER images with the higher spatial resolution, 15m, were used for this study. The test area covered the suburban area of metropolitan city, Seoul, where the landcover changes have been frequently happened.
As the utility of an optical satellite image with a high spatial resolution (i.e., fine-scale) has been emphasized, recently, various studies of the land surface monitoring using those have been widely carried out. However, the usefulness of fine-scale satellite images is limited because those are acquired at a low temporal resolution. To compensate for this limitation, the spatiotemporal data fusion can be applied to generate a synthetic image with a high spatio-temporal resolution by fusing multiple satellite images with different spatial and temporal resolutions. Since the spatio-temporal data fusion models have been developed for mid or low spatial resolution satellite images in the previous studies, it is necessary to evaluate the applicability of the developed models to the satellite images with a high spatial resolution. For this, this study evaluated the applicability of the developed spatio-temporal fusion models for KOMPSAT-3A and Sentinel-2 images. Here, an Enhanced Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Fusion Model (ESTARFM) and Spatial Time-series Geostatistical Deconvolution/Fusion Model (STGDFM), which use the different information for prediction, were applied. As a result of this study, it was found that the prediction performance of STGDFM, which combines temporally continuous reflectance values, was better than that of ESTARFM. Particularly, the prediction performance of STGDFM was significantly improved when it is difficult to simultaneously acquire KOMPSAT and Sentinel-2 images at a same date due to the low temporal resolution of KOMPSAT images. From the results of this study, it was confirmed that STGDFM, which has relatively better prediction performance by combining continuous temporal information, can compensate for the limitation to the low revisit time of fine-scale satellite images.
Atmospheric correction is an essential part in time-series analysis on biophysical parameters of surface features. In this study, we tried to examine possible problems in atmospheric correction of multitemporal High Spatial Resolution (HSR) images obtained from two different sensor systems. Three KOMPSAT-2 and two IKONOS-2 multispectral images were used. Three atmospheric correction methods were applied to derive surface reflectance: (1) Radiative Transfer (RT) - based absolute atmospheric correction method, (2) the Dark Object Subtraction (DOS) method, and (3) the Cosine Of the Uun zeniTh angle (COST) method. Atmospheric correction results were evaluated by comparing spectral reflectance values extracted from invariant targets and vegetation cover types. In overall, multi-temporal reflectance from five images obtained from January to December did not show consistent pattern in invariant targets and did not follow a typical profile of vegetation growth in forests and rice field. The multi-temporal reflectance values were different by sensor type and atmospheric correction methods. The inconsistent atmospheric correction results from these multi-temporal HSR images may be explained by several factors including unstable radiometric calibration coefficients for each sensor and wide range of sun and sensor geometry with the off-nadir viewing HSR images.
The characteristics of neighborhood correlation images for change detection were explored at different spatial resolution scales. Bi-temporal QuickBird datasets of Las Vegas, NV were used for the high spatial resolution image analysis, while bi-temporal Landsat $TM/ETM^{+}$ datasets of Suwon, South Korea were used for the mid spatial resolution analysis. The neighborhood correlation images consisting of three variables (correlation, slope, and intercept) were evaluated and compared between the two scales for change detection. The neighborhood correlation images created using the Landsat datasets resulted in somewhat different patterns from those using the QuickBird high spatial resolution imagery due to several reasons such as the impact of mixed pixels. Then, automated binary change detection was also performed using the single and multiple neighborhood correlation image variables for both spatial resolution image scales.
Recently high spatial resolution space-borne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems have launched and have been operated successfully. Interferometric SAR (InSAR) processing with the space-based high resolution observations acquired by these systems can provide more detail information for various geodetic applications. Coherence is regarded as a critical parameter in the evaluating the quality of an InSAR pair. In this study, we evaluate the coherence characteristics of high-resolution data acquired by TerraSAR-X (X-band) and ALOS PALSAR (L-band) and intermediate-resolution data acquired by Envisat ASAR (C-band) over western Texas, U.S.A. Our coherence analysis reveals that the high-resolution X-band TSX (3.1 cm) data has a high coherence level (0.3-0.6), similar to that of the L-band ALOS PALSAR data (23.5 cm) in short temporal baselines. Further more, the TSX coherence values are significantly higher than those of the C-band (5.6 cm) Envisat ASAR data. The higher coherence of the TSX dataset is a surprising result, because common scattering theories suggest that the longer wavelength SAR data maintain better coherence. In vegetated areas the shorter wavelength radar pulse interacts mostly with upper sections of the vegetation and, hence, does not provide good correlation over time in InSAR pairs. Thus, we suggest that the higher coherence values of the TSX data reflect the data's high-resolution, in which stable and coherent scatters are better maintained. Although, however, the TSX data show a very good coherence with short temporal baseline (11-33 days), the coherences are significantly degraded as the temporal baselines are increased. This result confirms previous studies showing that the coherence has a strong dependency on the temporal baseline.

In order to predict air pollution and Yellow-sand dispersion precisely, it is necessary to clarify the sensitivity of meteorological field input interval. Therefore numerical experiment by atmospheric dynamic model(RAMS) and atmospheric dispersion model(PDAS) was performed for evaluating the effect of temporal and spatial resolution of meteorological data on particle dispersion. The results are as follows: 1) Base on the result of RAMS simulation, surface wind direction and speed can either synchronize upper wind or not. If surface wind and upper wind do not synchronize, precise prediction of Yellow-sand dispersion is strongly associated with upwelling process of sand of particle. 2) There is no significant discrepance in distribution of particle under usage of difference temporal resolution of meteorological information at early time of simulation, but the difference of distribution of particles become large as time goes by. 3) There is little difference between calculated particles distributions in dispersion experiments with high temporal resolution of meteorological data. On the other hand, low resolution of meteorological data occur the quantitative difference of particle density and there is strong tendency to the quantitative difference.
In this review, the important ideas of coherence theory are introduced. The transfer function and damping envelopes of the microscope due to temporal and spatial coherence are described. The passbands and the condition of Scherzer focus are also disscussed in associated with the resolution of transmission electron microscope.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of representative spatio-temporal fusion models developed for the fusion of mid- and low-resolution satellite images in order to construct a set of time-series high-resolution images for crop monitoring. Particularly, the effects of the characteristics of input image pairs on the prediction performance are investigated by considering the principle of spatio-temporal fusion. An experiment on the fusion of multi-temporal Sentinel-2 and RapidEye images in agricultural fields was conducted to evaluate the prediction performance. Three representative fusion models, including Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM), SParse-representation-based SpatioTemporal reflectance Fusion Model (SPSTFM), and Flexible Spatiotemporal DAta Fusion (FSDAF), were applied to this comparative experiment. The three spatio-temporal fusion models exhibited different prediction performance in terms of prediction errors and spatial similarity. However, regardless of the model types, the correlation between coarse resolution images acquired on the pair dates and the prediction date was more significant than the difference between the pair dates and the prediction date to improve the prediction performance. In addition, using vegetation index as input for spatio-temporal fusion showed better prediction performance by alleviating error propagation problems, compared with using fused reflectance values in the calculation of vegetation index. These experimental results can be used as basic information for both the selection of optimal image pairs and input types, and the development of an advanced model in spatio-temporal fusion for crop monitoring.
