  • The transmission systems of high speed train serve in the severe condition compared with those of other trains, namely, they have to transmit high power to run with high speed and they have to make maximum use of the limited space. To clarify the capability of reduction gear unit for Korea High Speed Train, torque and temperature, vibration on the reduction gear unit were measured and test data were analyzed. This paper reports test methods and test results that performed to verify reliability of reduction gear unit during running test of Korea High Speed Train. It is confirmed from these results that the performance of reduction gear unit has not any problem.

  • Turnout is a mechanical installation enabling railway trains to be guided from one track to another at a railway junction. A movable nose crossing frog is a device used at a railway turnout to eliminate the gap at the common crossing (High manganese, block, assembly crossing)which can cause impact damage, noise and vibration. Our government has a plan speed up of conventional line to 250km/h semi-high speed. We had already developed flexible turnout with fixed crossing(High manganese) and SFC fastening system can cover in the semi-high speed line In this study is about development of the movable nose crossing turnout available Semi-high speed line on concrete track. This paper describes about geometry, attack angle, bending stress at the nose, switching force, safety of continuous welded long rails. This movable nose crossing turnout is expected greatly increases passing speed of turnout in national railway.

  • To improve the riding comfort of high speed trains, it needs active suspension system for railway more and more. In Japan, the high speed train, Shinkansen has adopted semi active suspension system and now it is running in the main trunk. In Korea, Koeran Train Express (KTX) is opened to commercial traffic and Korea High speed Railway (HSR350) is being developed. So the vibration control of the high speed train becomes important. In this paper, we introduce technical skill of Japanese semi active suspension Shinkansen to be helpful to the related researcher.

  • Railway noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. Whenever a new railway line is planned or a housing project near an existing railway is proposed, an estimate of the relevant levels is usually required. For this, it is necessary to quantify those parameters that affect the railway noise. Therefore we investigated the noise and vibration level which 107 high speed trains generated passing through the block of test railway track between Chunan and Chungwon. This paper presents the status and characteristics of the high speed railway noise and an accurate prediction of the high speed railway noise.

  • Bridges and tunnels mainly compose the structural system of Kyung-bu high-speed railway in Korea and the prestressed concrete box girder bridges are applied for the most part of bridge structures. Precast full span construction method was practiced in the construction of many prestressed concrete box girder bridges in Kyung-bu high speed railway for the high quality, great construction speed, low construction cost and construction safety. However, there have been no application of this method in continuous bridges until now. Therefore, a new advanced precast full span construction method is developed using pre-tensioning for precast and post-tensioning in alternating the simple span into a continuous bridge system. since the high-speed railway trains can cause dynamic problems in a continuous bridge. This study shows the structural behavior and the construction process of the new advance method.

  • Pressure waves are generated when high speed train runs through the tunnels. These pressure waves not only affect passenger's health, but also can cause fatigue failures on the vehicle structure. The current high speed train should run on the conventional lines. In this study, pressure fluctuations by the high speed trains such as G7 Korea High Speed Train and Korea Train eXpress are measured in the cabin and the carbody surface when they pass through the tunnels. The measured results are analyzed and the related parameters are investigated.

  • When fluid at high speed flows over an open cavity, large acoustic pressure fields inside the cavity are produced by fluid/structure interactions at the downstream end of the cavity. The inter-coach spacing is one of the most important sources of the aero-acoustic noise of a high-speed train. This noise can usually be heard as low frequency structure-borne noise inside the train. In this study experiments were performed in order to investigate the effects of mud-flap length on the aeroacoustic noise generation inside high-speed trains. Results of the measurement confirmed that the characteristics of the noise generated from the inter-coach spacing are strongly dependent on the size of the gap. Also investigated are the characteristics of the turbulent flow after the inter-coach spacing and consequent generation of the aeroacoustic noise inside the cabin.

  • It is important to localize trains precisely for the purpose of controlling them and there have been many studies designed to accomplish this without the need for wayside systems. Since trains run on fixed railway lines, it is possible to search in one direction to localize them. Moreover, it is also possible to know the shape of the line in advance. In the case of high speed trains, their speed and, therefore, their Doppler frequency is relatively high and the railway line is either linear or circular with a large radius. In this study, we utilize these features and propose a train localization method using the Doppler frequency of the signals transmitted from two points (base stations). We derive localization equations for a linear line, circular line, and mixed line (linear plus circular) respectively. Though Doppler radars are usually used to measure speed, the proposed method obtains the location information and the speed successively using the ratio of the doppler frequencies of two signals without knowing the location information or the speed. Computer simulations are performed to show the variation of the estimation error according to the train's location and the measurement error level. The conditions required to obtain the target error level and the increase in the estimation error according to the measurement error are compared between the proposed and conventional methods. The results show the superior performance and robustness of the proposed method.
