In this paper, the fractal shape is applied to microstrip band pass filters and integrated on a high-resistivity Si substrate to solve conventional $2^{nd}$ harmonic problem. Conventional microstrip coupled line filters are popular in RF front ends, because they can be easily fabricated and integrated with other RF components. However, they typically have large second harmonics that can cause unwanted interference in interested frequency bands. Without any additional filters, the proposed Koch shape filters have suppressed the $2^{nd}$ harmonics by about -40 dB, so they can be used in systems such as direct conversion receiver with stringent harmonic suppression requirements.
Aluminum nitride (AlN) powder specimens are treated by high-energy bead milling and then sintered at various temperatures. Depending on the solvent and milling time, the oxygen content in the AlN powder varies significantly. When isopropyl alcohol is used, the oxygen content increases with the milling time. In contrast, hexane is very effective at suppressing the oxygen content increase in the AlN powder, although severe particle sedimentation after the milling process is observed in the AlN slurry. With an increase in the milling time, the primary particle size remains nearly constant, but the particle agglomeration is reduced. After spark plasma sintering at $1400^{\circ}C$, the second crystalline phase changes to compounds containing more $Al_2O_3$ when the AlN raw material with an increased milling time is used. When the sintering temperature is decreased from $1750^{\circ}C$ to $1400^{\circ}C$, the DC resistivity increases by approximately two orders of magnitude, which implies that controlling the sintering temperature is a very effective way to improve the DC resistivity of AlN ceramics.

In this work, the high power CW Nd:YAG laser has been used for thermal treatment of inkjet printed Ag films-involving eliminating organic additives (dispersant, binder, and organic solvent) of Ag ink and annealing Ag nanoparticles. By optimizing laser parameters, such as laser power and defocusing value, the laser energy can totally be converted to heat energy, which is used to thermal treatment of inkjet printed Ag films. This results in controlling the microstructures and the resistivity of films. We investigated the thermal diffusion mechanisms during laser annealing and the resulting microstructures. The impact of high power laser annealing on microstructures and electrical characteristic of inkjet printed Ag films is compared to those of the films annealed by a conventional furnace annealing. Focused ion beam (FIB) channeling image shows that the laser annealed Ag films have large columnar grains and dense structure (void free), while furnace annealed films have tiny grains and exhibit void formation. Due to these microstructural characteristics of laser annealed films, it has better electrical property (low resistivity) compared to furnace annealed samples.

This paper details the design of a 1,200 V class trench gate field stop IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) with a nano gate structure smaller than 1 um. Decreasing the size is important for lowering the cost and increasing the efficiency of power devices because they are high-voltage switching devices, unlike memory devices. Therefore, in this paper, we used a 2-D device and process simulations to maintain a gate width of less than 1 um, and carried out experiments to determine design and process parameters to optimize the core electrical characteristics, such as breakdown voltage and on-state voltage drop. As a result of these experiments, we obtained a wafer resistivity of $45{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, a drift layer depth of more than 180 um, an N+ buffer resistivity of 0.08, and an N+ buffer thickness of 0.5 um, which are important for maintaining 1,200 V class IGBTs. Specially, it is more important to optimize the resistivity of the wafer than the depth of the drift layer to maintain a high breakdown voltage for these devices.

Microstructure and positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) characteristics of $0.9BaTiO_3-0.1(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ [BaBiNT] ceramics doped with $Nb_2O_5$ were investigated in order to develop the Pb-free high Curie temperature ($T_c$)(>$160^{\circ}C$) PTC thermistor. The BaBiNT ceramics showed a tetragonal perovskite structure, irrespective of the added amount of $Nb_2O_5$. They also have a homogeneous microstructure. The resistivity of BaBiNT ceramics was gradually decreased by doping $Nb_2O_5$, which might be due to $Nb^{+5}$ ions substituting for $Ti^{+4}$ sites. The PTCR characteristics of BaBiNT ceramics appeared when the amount of doped $Nb_2O_5$ exceeded 0.0025mol%. Moreover, the abrupt grain growth was observed for the 0.03mol% $Nb_2O_5$added BaBiNT ceramics. It showed an especially high $T_c$ of approximately $172^{\circ}C$ and good PTCR characteristics of a high $\rho_{max}/\rho_{min}$ ratio ($2.96\times10^3$), a high resistivity temperature factor (11.40/$^{\circ}C$) along with a relatively low resistivity ($3.5\times10^4\Omega{\cdot}cm$).

Rock mass rating (RMR) is the key factor when designing the appropriate support pattern of tunnel projects. Borehole drilling is usually performed along the tunnel route in order to determine the rock mass rating to be used for tunnel design. The rock mass rating at the non-boring region between boreholes is usually assessed through geophysical surveys such as electrical prospecting, seismic prospecting, etc. Many studies were carried out to find out the correlation between electrical resistivity and rock mass rating. However, most researches were aimed at obtaining the relationship between the two parameters utilizing experimental results obtained from laboratory tests or electrical prospectings. In this paper, efforts were made to analyze and obtain relationships between the electrical resistivity obtained from in-situ electrical resistivity logging data and the rock mass rating. Correlation studies using field data showed that the electrical resistivity is highly correlated with the rock mass rating with the determination coefficient more than 90%. The correlation analysis was also carried out between RMR classification parameters and the electrical resistivity. It was shown that the correlation between the condition of discontinuities and the electrical resistivity was very high with the determination coefficient more than 80%; that between the groundwater condition and the electrical resistivity was very low with the determination coefficient less than 57%.

The application of electrical resistivity, which is related to charge mobility, has increased in the field of geotechnical engineering for the detection of underground cavern, faults and subsurface pollution level. The purpose of this study is to investigate the variation of electrical resistivity due to temperature change. Sand-silt mixture specimens prepared in the square freezing nylon cell are frozen in the frozen chamber. Four electrodes are attached on the four side walls of the freezing cell for the measurement of electrical resistance during temperature change. Electrical resistances of sand-silt mixtures with different degrees of saturation (0%, 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 100%) are measured as the temperature of specimens decrease from $20^{\circ}C$ to $-10^{\circ}C$. The electrical resistances determined by Ohm's law are transformed into the electrical resistivity by calibration. Experimental results show that the higher degree of saturation, the lower electrical resistivity at $20^{\circ}C$. Electrical resistivity gradually increases as the temperature decrease from $20^{\circ}C$ to $0^{\circ}C$. For the specimens with the degree of saturation of 15% or higer, electrical resistivity dramatically changes near the temperature of $0^{\circ}C$. In addition, very high electrical resistivity is observed regardless of the degree of saturation if the specimens are frozen. This study provides the fundamental information of electrical resistivity according to the soil freezing and temperature change demonstrates that electrical resistivity be a practical method for frozen soil investigation.
The electrical resistivity method, one of old and widely used geophysical prospecting methods, has extended its scope to civil & environmental engineering areas. The electrical resistivity imaging technique was performed at the waste disposal site located in Junju to verify the applicability to the environmental engineering area. The dipole-dipole array, with the dipole spacing of 10 m, was applied along eight survey lines. The field data were obtained under the control of automatic acquisition softwares and topographic effects were corrected during processing stage. The processed resistivity images show that very low resistivity develops inside the disposal site and the distribution of low resistivity is exactly in accord with the boundary of the site except the river side. The depth of low resistivity zones is deeper toward the river side, which is interpreted that there is a high possibility for contaminants to be scattered to the river. From resistivity images, it was feasible to deduce the depth of waste disposal as well as the horizontal/vertical distribution of the contaminated zone, which proved the applicability of the electrical resistivity imaging technique to the environmental engineering area.
A resistivity method has been applied to wide range of engineering and environmental problems with the help of automatic and precise data acquisition. Thus, more accurate modeling and inversion of time-lapse monitoring data are required since resistivity monitoring has been introduced to quantitatively find out subsurface changes With respect to time. Here, we used the finite element method (FEM) for 3D resistivity modeling since the method is easy to realize complex topography and arbitrary shaped anomalous bodies. In the FEM, the linear elements, also referred to as first order elements, have certain advantages of simple formulation and narrow bandwidth of system equation. However, the linear elements show the poor accuracy and slow convergence of the solution with respect to the number of elements or nodes. To achieve the higher accuracy of finite element solution, high order elements are generally used. In this study, we developed a 3D resistivity modeling program using high order Serendipity elements. Comparing the Serendipity element solutions for a cube model with the linear element solutions, we assured that the Serendipity element solutions are more accurate than the linear element solutions in the 3D resistivity modeling.
Because the allowable current loading of buried electrical transmission cables is frequently limited by the maximum permissible temperature of the cable or of the surrounding ground, there is a need for cable backfill materials that can maintain a low thermal resistivity (less than 5$0^{\circ}C$-cm/watt) even while they are subjected to high temperatures for prolonged periods. Temperatures greater than 5$0^{\circ}C$ to 6$0^{\circ}C$ may lead to breakdown of cable insulation and thermal nlnaway if the surrounding backfill material is unable to dissipate the heat as rapidly as it is generated. This paper describes the results of studies aiming at the development of backfill material to reduce the thermal resistivity. A large number of different additive materials were tested to determine their applicability as a substitute material. Tests were called out for DonUing river sand, a relatively uniffrm sand of very high thermal resistivity (5$0^{\circ}C$ -cnuwatt at 10% water content, 26$0^{\circ}C$-cm/watt when dry), and Jinsan granite screenings, and A-2(sand and gravel mixture), E-1 (rubble and granite screenings mixture), a well-graded materials with low thermal resistivity (about 35$^{\circ}C$ -cm/watt when at 10 percent water content, 10$0^{\circ}C$-cm/watt when dry). Based on this research, 3 types of backfill materials were suggested for improved materials with low thermal resistivity.
