  • This paper presents the results of a study on an electrodeless high intensity discharge (HID) lamp system that is powered by circularly polarized microwaves (CPMs). The technique to generate CPMs enables an electrodeless high intensity discharge lamp to be turned on without the retation of the bulb but conventional electrodeless high intensity discharge lamps use rotating bulbs in order to prevent a puncture in a hot spots that are formed by the linearly polarized microwaves in the circular cavity. The technique to generate CPMs is described and the salient features of the lamp characteristics are presented.

  • To simulate the characteristics of an High-Intensity Discharge Lamp, this paper uses PSpice circuit model which have been developed from modification of the classical Cassie and Mayr equations. The model is for an High-Intensity Discharge Lamp and compatible to adopt high-frequency electric ballast. This model is correspond to some conditions between the simulated and experimental results.

  • 본 논문에서는 2.5[kW]급 선박용 HID 탐사등 조명을 위한 Soft-start 개방회로 전압 및 정전류 순차 제어 방식을 제안한다. 제안된 제어회로는 HID 탐사등의 안정적인 점등을 위하여 개방회로 전압과 점등 전류를 순차적으로 제어하는 방식으로, 특히 전원투입 상태에서의 안정성을 위하여 일정한 입력전압에 대해서 Soft-start 기법을 적용하여 개방회로 전압 제어모드로 동작하도록 설계되었다. 또한, 점등개시 신호의 입력에 따라 제어모드를 전압제어에서 전류 제어모드로 변경하여 단일 PWM 제어소자에서 동시에 처리하도록 하였다. 한편, 입력 노이즈 및 개방회로 전압의 검출을 간단한 원칩 마이크로 프로세서로 구현하여, 오동작 및 점등 실패에 대한 강인성을 부가하도록 하였다. 제안된 제어기는 실제 선박용 HID 탐사등의 적용 시험을 통하여 그 안정성을 시험하였다.

  • This paper proposes an effective drive of high intensity discharge (HID) lamp ballast for cars. All control functions of the proposed ballast are implemented using a low-cost single chip microcontroller, PIC16C73 to optimize the total system size and to minimize cost through minimization of total component number. The proposed ballast generates high open-circuit voltage to ignite the lamp and is controlled to supply effectively the power required to shorten warm-up period after the breakdown. The DC-DC converter of the DC-AC converter part of the ballast utilizes the flyback converter topology that can minimize component number. Also, because to more minimize the ballast size, the transformer size must be minimized, for this, PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) pulses are generated with high frequency using the PWM module of the microcontroller. An analysis for this is explained, briefly. As if the operation of the lamp and ballast arrives at steady-state, then the ballast must AC-control the lamp, for this, the microcontroller utilizes the other PWM module. And the part related to the igniter is explained, briefly. It is shown through experimental results that the controller of the proposed ballast has good performance for the HID lamp for cars.

  • The thesis is used by PSpice circuit model to the characteristics of a fluorescent lamp modified form of he classical Cassie and Mayr equations in order to show the characteristics of HID(High-Intensity Discharge) Lamp. This is useful for applying high-frequency electric ballast for HID Lamp, and show that the result of experimentations and simulations, such as lamp rating, input voltage, high-frequency electric ballast which is using the ABM circuit model of the low pressure sodium lamp, come to the voltage and current wave.

  • 본 논문에서는 선박용 HID조명의 방전 개시전압을 조절함으로써 초기 방전전류를 억제하여, HID조명의 안정적인 점등이 가능한 제어방식을 제안하였다. 제안된 제어 방식은 방전 대기전압까지 출력전압을 상승시킨 후, 충전전압의 저항부하 방전을 통하여 전압을 감소시키면서, 설계된 방전개시전압시점에서 이그니터를 점화하여 방전 개시 전류를 제한한다. 방전 후 정상상태에서는 정전류 제어로 조도를 제어하게 된다. 제안된 방식은 별도의 전압제어기를 포함하지 않으면서도, 방전개시 시점을 조절할 수 있으므로, 초기 방전 전류를 크게 제한할 수 있으므로, 안정적인 점등과 조명의 수명을 확대할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 또한 조명의 이상상태를 간단한 이상검출 회로를 통하여 순시적으로 감시하여 전체 시스템의 보호 성능을 개선하였다. 제안된 제어기는 실제 선박용 2.5[kW]급의 HID 탐사조명에 대한 실험을 통하여 검증하였다.

  • In this Paper, we suggested the Half-Bridge inverter for the automotive HID electronic ballast. electronic ballast for automotive HID lamp should be supplied by low-frequency square wave avoiding the acoustic resonance(11kHz ∼ 825kHz). When the HID lamp is hot state, the electronic ballast should supply the sufficient current for a few milli-second to the lamp at the re-strike ignition state. that is called take-over current. We have introduced the new take-over current control method that could have reduced the peak current and supplied the sufficient take-over current.

  • A new of the automotive High Intensity Discharge(HID) lamp ballast systems is proposed. Proposed scheme is consisted of the high frequency DC-DC converter and low frequency DC-AC inverter as same as conventional HID ballast system. But this system separates ignition voltage from dc link voltage, which results to used the lower voltage rating power devices for HID lamp ballast system compared with conventional system. As a result, proposed system has a lower cost and higher efficiency.

  • This paper presents design and analysis of an HID lamp ballast for a fast turn on characteristics and stable operation. It produces a high open circuit voltage for the ignition and it is controlled to supply effectively the power required to shorten the warm-up period after the breakdown. The lamp modeling by empirical data is presented. It is very effective in the designing of the control loop in the steady-state operating region. A stable operation of the lamp power regulation in the steady state is achieved, which is crucial for the long life time and constant light output. Stability analysis of the system is performed and the results are verified through various simulation results and the hardware experiments.

  • In this paper, characteristics of ignition voltage and current by wire length of HID(High Intensity Discharge) lamp circuit are analyzed. In the construction field, decision of the wire thickness for HID lamp circuit has the problems, and these are presented. Through transmit parameters, equivalent model of the ballast and HID lamp circuit was derived. The graph of voltage reduction about length between the ballast and the lamp is shown. The simulation of proposed model and experimental results are presented in order to validate the proposed method. The proposed model and graph can use to choose the proper length of wire between the ballast and the lamp in the field.
