The disk/blade assembly of a turbine engine is made in the shape of a dovetail type or a fir-tree type. Since disk fillet regions or contact surfaces undergo high stress comcentration, fatigue cracks frequentrly occur in the disk/blade assembly. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the stress distributions in the fir-tree type disk/balde assembly and predict the region of fatigue failure. The stress distributions of the disk/blade assembly were investigated by using the photoelastic method and the finite element method. Two dimensional photoelastic techniques were used to investigate the stress distributions of contact surfaces and fillet regions. TH stress distributions were obtained by the shear-difference method and were compared to the finite element results. It was found that maximum tensile stresses were higher in the fillet region thatn in the contact surfaces of the fir-tree models. The finite element results showed good agreement with the experimental results.
The GOCI atmospheric correction overland surfaces is essential for the time-series analysis of terrestrial environments with the very high temporal resolution. We develop an operational GOCI atmospheric correction method over land surfaces, which is rather different from the one developed for ocean surface. The GOCI atmospheric correction method basically reduces gases absorption and Rayleigh and aerosol scatterings and to derive surface reflectance from at-sensor radiance. We use the 6S radiative transfer model that requires several input parameters to calculate surface reflectance. In the sensitivity analysis, aerosol optical thickness was the most influential element among other input parameters including atmospheric model, terrain elevation, and aerosol type. To account for the highly variable nature of aerosol within the GOCI target area in northeast Asia, we generate the spatio-temporal aerosol maps using AERONET data for the aerosol correction. For a fast processing, the GOCI atmospheric correction method uses the pre-calculated look up table that directly converts at-sensor radiance to surface reflectance. The atmospheric correction method was validated by comparing with in-situ spectral measurements and MODIS reflectance products. The GOCI surface reflectance showed very similar magnitude and temporal patterns with the in-situ measurements and the MODIS reflectance. The GOCI surface reflectance was slightly higher than the in-situ measurement and MODIS reflectance by 0.01 to 0.06, which might be due to the different viewing angles. Anisotropic effect in the GOCI hourly reflectance needs to be further normalized during the following cloud-free compositing.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the senior dental students for the proximal dental caries on intraoral radiographs and to compare it with the dental hospital residents, the reference group. It was also investigated the diagnostic performance according to the carious lesion depth. Thirty-five intraoral periapical and bitewing radiographs with 213 proximal surfaces included in this study were selected from the dental patients at Chonnam National University Hospital. The observers were 181 senior dental students from 5 dental schools and 40 dentists who were second year resident from 5 dental hospitals. They were asked to evaluate the presence or the absence of the proximal dental caries. The results were as follows: 1. The mean of the hitting rate for the overall observers was 184.51 surfaces and the diagnostic accuracy was 86.62%. 2. The diagnostic performance of the sound proximal tooth surfaces was very high, i.e., 91.5% true negative rate and 8.5% false positive rate. 3. The diagnostic performance of the dentist group was higher than the student group(P<0.05). 4. The proximal dental caries perceptibility increased as the lesion depth increased significantly(P<0.001) except no difference between the carious lesion depth III and IV (P>0.001).
In modem manufacturing industries such as the airplane and automobile, aluminum alloys which are remarkable in durability have been utilized effectively. High-speed machining technology for surface roughness quality of workpiece has been applied in these fields. Higher cutting speed and feedrates lead to a reduction of machining time and increase of surface quality. Furthermore, the reduction of time required for polishing or lapping of machined surfaces improves the production rate. Traditional milling process for high speed cutting can be machined with end mill tool. However, such processes are generally cost-expensive and have low material removal rate. Thus, in this paper, face milling cutter which gives high MRR has developed face milling cutter body for the high speed machining of light alloy to overcome the problems. Also vibration experiment to detect natural frequency in free state and frequency characteristics during machining are performed to escape resonance.
The high speed machining is now one of the most effective manufacturing methods to achive higher productivity. However, due to the increased cutting temperatures caused by increased cutting speed, tool wear become larger. Especially in high speed face milling, cutting tools are exposed not only to high cutting temperatures, but also to mechanical and thermal shock stresses. It is essential, therefore, to know the wear characteristics of tool materials in high speed machining. This study presents an experimental investigation of the cutting performance of CBN tools in high speed face milling of gray cast iron FC25. The effect of cutting conditions and cutting length on flank wear of CBN tools and roughness of machined surfaces is investigated. The cutting parameters involved were ; cutting speeds in the range of 600to 1800 m/min, feed of 0.1 mm/tooth, and depth of cut of 0.3mm.
Recently, applications of high voltage impulse (hereafter HVI) technique to desalting, sludge solubilization and disinfection have gained great attention. However, information on how the operating condition of HVI changes the water qualities, particularly production of hydroxyl radical (${\cdot}OH$) is not sufficient yet. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of operating conditions of the HVI on the generation of hydroxyl radical. Indirect quantification of hydroxyl radical using RNO which react with hydroxyl radical was used. The higher HVI voltage applied up to 15 kV, the more RNO decreased. However, 5 kV was not enough to produce hydroxyl radical, indicating there might be an critical voltage triggering hydroxyl radical generation. The concentration of RNO under the condition of high conductivity decreased more than those of the low conductivities. Moreover, the higher the air supplies to the HVI reactor, the greater RNO decreased. The conditions with high conductivity and/or air supply might encourage the corona discharge on the electrode surfaces, which can produce the hydroxyl radical more easily. The pH and conductivity of the sample water changed little during the course of HVI induction.
The effect of characteristic of surface roughness and roughness patterns on friction was studied experimentally in boundary lubrication with reciprocating tribometer. Roughness was changed from Ra=0.2($\mu\textrm{m}$)to Ra=1.2($\mu\textrm{m}$). Three roughness pattern-transverse, oblique, longitudinal- were tested for various load and velocity. The experimental results show that the scuffing resistance of surfaces with transversal roughness pattern is higher than that of surface with longitudinal and obliq pattern. under the conditions of the roughness values of Ra=0.2, 0.5,1.0 and 1.2. surfacer roughness (Ra) was decreased with the normal load increased before scuffing occurred. oblique pattern and longitudinal pattern with Ra=0.2 and Ra=1.0 was higher scuffing load under low sliding velocity, but with Ra=0.5 was higher scuffing load under high sliding velocity.
The existence of coastal terraces, HH(High higher) surfaces found at Gampo of southeast coast and at Jeongdongjin of the central east coast were confirmed at Jigyeong-Ri, the areal border between Gyeongju- and Ulsan city on the southeast coast of Korea Peninsula. Especially this study reports HH JK-surface located on the 155m a.s.l., which is the highest altitude among the ancient shorelines of the coastal terraces in Korea. The HH surfaces on the study area are classified into HH JK at 155m, HH-I at 140m and HH-II at 115m, and each formation stage is related to MIS 17(720∼690ka BP), MIS 15(630∼560ka BP) and MIS 13(510∼480ka BP) respectively. The HH-surfaces remain to be larger than those of H- and L-surfaces. The reason is caused by the unique factors of the coastal geology and morphology on the study area during the formation stage. And also the areal difference by the magnitude of upheaval doesn't exist from north to south because the altitude system of ancient shoreline on each coastal terrace is same along the east coast. The upheaval rate of the eastern coastal areas was measured in the relation to the ancient shoreline and formation stage among the coastal terraces such as HH JK-, HH-I, HH-II, H-III and H-IY surface, and was almost same as 0.23mm/y.
