  • Experimental investigation was undertaken to determine early-age strength development and the relationships between the mechanical properties of type I, V and V/fly ash cement concrete with different curing temperature. The tests for mechanical properties, i.e., compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity were carried out for type, I, V and V with 15% replacement with fly ash cement concrete. For this purpose 480 concrete cylinders cured at isothermal conditions of 10, 23, 35 and 5$0^{\circ}C$ were tested at ages of 1, 3, 7 and 28days. According to the experiments, the concrete subjected to high temperature at early age got greater strength at early age, however eventually lower strength at late age. The derived relationships between compressive strength and splitting tensile strength and elastic modulus of elasticity appeared to be identical for all types of cement.

  • In order to use the high-volume slag cement as a construction materials, a proper activator which can improve the latent hydraulic reactivity is required. The dissolved aluminum silicon ions from ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) react with sulfate ions to form ettringite. The proper formation of ettringite can increase the early-age strength of high-volume GGBFS (80%) cement. The aim of this study is to investigate the hydration properties with sulfate activators (sodium sulfate, anhydrite). In this paper, the effects of $Na_2SO_4$ and $CaSO_4$ on setting, compressive strength, hydration, micro-structure were investigated in high-volume GGBFS cement and compared with those of without activator. Test results indicate that equivalent $SO_3$ content of 3~5% improve the early-age hydration properties such as compressive strength, heat evolution rate, micro-pore structure in high-volume GGBFS cement.

  • This research aims to assess the flexural bonding efficacy of polymer-cement composites(PCCs) in mending cracks within reinforced concrete(RC) structures. The study involved infilling PCCs into cement mortar cracks of varying dimensions, followed by evaluations of enhancements in flexural adhesion and strength. The findings indicate that the flexural bond performance of PCCs in crack repair is influenced by the cement type, polymer dispersion, and the polymer-to-binder ratio. Specifically, the use of ultra-high early strength cement combined with silica fume resulted in an up to 19.0% improvement in flexural bond strength compared to the application of ordinary Portland cement with silica fume. It was observed that the augmentation in flexural strength of cement mortar filled with PCCs was significantly more dependent on the depth of the crack rather than the width. Furthermore, PCCs not only acted as repair agents but also as reinforcement materials, enhancing the flexural strength to a certain extent. Consequently, this study concludes that PCCs formulated with ultra-high early strength cement, various polymer dispersions, silica fume, and a high polymer-to-binder ratio ranging from 60% to 80% are highly effective as maintenance materials for crack filling in practical settings.

  • The growth in fast-track construction and repair has prompted major efforts to develop high-early-strength concrete mix compositions. Such mixtures rely on the use of relatively high cement contents and accelerator dosages to increase the rate of strength development. The measures, however, seem to compromise the long-term performance of concrete in applications such as full-depth patches as evidenced by occasional premature deterioration of such patches. The hypothesis successfully validated in this research was that traditional methods of increasing the early-age strength of concrete, involving the use of high cement and accelerator contents, increase the moisture and thermal movements of concrete. Restraint of such movements in actual field conditions, by external or internal restraining factors, generates tensile stresses which introduced microcracks and thus increase the permeability of concrete. This increase in permeability accelerates various processes of concrete deterioration, including freeze-thaw attack. Fiver reinforcement of concrete is an effective approach to the control of microcrack and crack development under tensile stresses. Fibers, however, have not been known of accelerating the process of strength gain in concrete. The recently developed specialty cellulose fibers, however, were found in this research to be highly effective in increasing the early-age strength of concrete. This provides a unique opportunity to increase the rate of strength gain in concrete without increasing moisture an thermal movements, which actually controlling the processes of microcracking and racking in concrete. Laboratory test results confirmed the desirable resistance of specialty cellulose fiber reinforced High-early-strength concrete to restrained shrinkage microcracking an cracking, and to different processes of deterioration under weathering effects.

  • In this study, the utilization of the by-products of various industries was examined using raw materials of CSA high-functional cement such as coal bottom ash, red mud, phosphate gypsum, etc. Technology to improve energy efficiency and reduce $CO_2$ was developed as part of the manufacturing process; this technology included lower temperature sintering ($150{\sim}200^{\circ}C$) than is used in the OPC cement manufacturing process, replacement of CSA cement with the main raw material bauxite, and a determination of the optimum mix condition. In order to develop CSA cement, a manufacturing system was established in the Danyang plant of the HANIL Cement Co. Ltd., in Korea. About 4,200 tons of low purity expansion agent CSA cement (about 16%) and about 850 tons of the lime-based expansion agent dead burned lime (about 8%) were produced at a rate of 60 tons per hour at the HANIL Cement rotary kiln. To improve the OPC cement properties, samples of 10%, 13%, and 16% of CSA cement were mixed with the OPC cement and the compressive strength and length variation rate of the green cement were examined. When green cement was mixed with each ratio of CSA cement and OPC cement, the compressive strength was improved by about 30% and the expansibility of the green cement was also improved. When green cement was mixed with 16% of CSA cement, the compressive strength was excellent compared with that of OPC cement. Therefore, this study indicates the possibility of a practical use of low-cost CSA cement employing industrial wastes only.

  • This study was carried out to research the strength drop of concrete in dry environment. The mixing ratio of cement-fine aggregate was 1: 1, 1 : 2, 1: 3 and 1 : 4. The curing was compared standard curing with dry curing immediately after casting. It is analysis of strength change by water-proof mixing. The curing age of cement mortar was 3days, 7days, l4days and 28days. The result obtained from this study are summarized as follows. 1. The compressive and bending strength change by increasing the curing age, dry curing mortar the increasing rate of strength was decreased than standard curing mortar. 2. The compressive and bending strength change in early curing, strength difference between standard curing mortar and dry curing motar was gradually closed by increasing the W/C. 3. The dry curing mortar was decreased than standard curing mortar in decreasing rate of compressive and bending strength by increasing the W/C. 4. The compressive strength of water-proof mortar in early curing, liquid water-proof mortar was shown high strength in dry curing than standard curing. The powder and liquid water-proof mortar have a small effect in dry environment. The liquid water-proof mortar was high strength without relation change of curing age in dry environment than standard curing. 5. The compressive strength of liquid water-proof mortar in poverty mix, dry curing was shown high strength than standard curing. 6. The bending strength was increased than compressive strength by decreasing the volume of cement in early curing. The increasing rate of bending strength was decreased to compressive stength by increasing the curing age.

  • Blast furnace slag cement(BSC) has many merits in relation to its prodution cost or environmental problem of these days, but it has still some limitation in broad use mainly because it has the lower early hydration strength than the normal portland cement(PC) has. In the present study, several different experimental concepts to improve its low strength in the early hydration stage were tried out which addition of the effective alkali activators such as Ca(OH)2 and limestone powder, fly ash in existing BSC. It was found that the addition of suitable quantity the effective alkali activators such as Ca(OH)2 and limestone powder, fly ash in BSC can be a possible way to get enough early strength compared with the PC and existing BSC.

  • In recent, concrete material like specific cement and additives having many functions hsa been developed. In road pavement, ultra high early strength cement or organic material are used to open the road early, but there are many restrictions like workable time and special equipment. We aim to developed specific concrete which 1 day strength is over 300kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to open the road within one day and workable time is maintained over 1 hour that can make the concrete ready mixed concrete. In this study, we are convinced if the ratio of hauyne clinker or its additive is increased early strength property is progressed and if the ratio of non hydrous gypsum is increased longtime strength is progressed. The concrete strength is 290-310 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 1 day, 570-640 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 28 day and the workable time is maintained over 30 minutes. As the results of this experiments We find out the possibility to developed the 1 day usable ready mixed concrete with high early strength.
