  • A heterogeneous network (HetNet) is a network topology composed by deploying multiple HetNets under the coverage of macro cells (MCs). It can improve network throughput, extend cell coverage, and offload network traffic; for example, the network traffic of a 5G mobile communications network. A HetNet involves a mix of radio technologies and various cell types working together seamlessly. In a HetNet, coordination between MCs and small cells (SCs) has a positive impact on the performance of the networks contained within, and consequently on the overall user experience. Therefore, to improve user-perceived service quality, HetNets require high-efficiency network protocols and enhanced radio technologies. In this paper, we introduce a 5G HetNet comprised of MCs and both fixed and mobile SCs (mSCs). The featured mSCs can be mounted on a car, bus, or train and have different characteristics to fixed SCs (fSCs). In this paper, we address the technical challenges related to mSCs. In addition, we analyze the network performance under two HetNet scenarios-MCs and fSCs, and MCs and mSCs.

  • Today, Digital Right Management (DRM) is used to protect copyrights of digital contents from illegal reproduction and redistribution. Unfortunately, current DRM systems are causing user's discomfort because of lack of mutual compatibility. In order to overcome this drawback, technologies for interoperability of heterogeneous DRM systems are developing. In this paper, we study the protection profile for conversion technologies of heterogeneous DRM systems, using the Common Criteria. Especially, this paper is written by reuse of the existing protection profile. Therefore, performance analysis reveals that efficiency of time and cost is significantly improved. This protection profile can be used by contents provider and administrator who manage user's copyrights to reference data for copyright protection.

  • While blockchain platforms for various purposes have been developed and the blockchain ecosystem is being developed, interoperability problems are emerging in which each blockchain is isolated and operated. In this study, we introduce interchain and sidechain technologies, which are blockchain that connect blockchain, and explain examples of using heterogeneous blockchain transactions and functions by applying them. In addition, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and IoT technologies, which are drawing attention in the fourth industrial revolution, are going through a process of converging and developing beyond their own development. In this regard, we present processes for combining artificial intelligence or IoT in blockchain, and propose a model that can operate without intervention by applying the combination of blockchain and artificial intelligence IoT to processes for trading and exchange between heterogeneous blockchain.

  • The trend of Next Generation Networks' (NGN) evolution is towards providing multiple and multimedia services to users through ubiquitous networks. The aim of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is to integrate mobile communication networks and computer networks. The IMS plays an important role in NGN services, which can be achieved by heterogeneous networks and different access technologies. IMS can be used to manage all service related issues such as Quality of Service (QoS), Charging, Access Control, User and Services Management. Nowadays, internet technology is changing with each passing day. New technologies yield new impact to IMS. In this paper, we perform a survey of IMS and discuss the different impacts of new technologies on IMS such as P2P, SCIM, Web Service and its security issues.

  • In this paper, we attempt to predict the future of broadband access market where new convergence access technologies and additional services are introduced, based on consumer preferences. Conjoint analysis and mixed logit model is used for estimation, From the results, consumers value convergence access technologies such as PLC and wireless LAN, and TV-related service, However, valuation on new beneficial features of convergence access technologies is not enough to overcome their technological inferiorities in data transfer speed and quality stability at current technological stage, Additionally, consumer preferences are so heterogeneous that differentiated business strategies are required, Finally, some managerial and policy implications are presented.

  • The convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication services is being accelerated by broadband networks, digital broadcasting and Web2.0. This paper describes the definition and service characteristics of IPTV as a representative of broadcasting and telecommunication convergence services. Especially, the changes of infrastructure and technology for IPTV2.0 are addressed in terms of the service features of mobility, intelligence and participation. IPTV2.0 shall be characterized by the open IPTV service based on Web2.0 and the mobile IPTV service over the heterogeneous networks employing various wireless/wired access technologies. The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Service Delivery Platform (SDP) technologies are increasingly considered to support the personalization and openness. The mobility management technology is being evolved to provide QoS-guaranteed mobile communication services to users at anytime and anywhere. IPTV2.0 services and platforms are also anticipated to be core components to achieve knowledge-based ubiquitous society. IPTV2.0 contents are required to be integrated with the enhanced metadata to efficiently support search, selection, convergence and delivery of the contents. Moreover, those contents shall be enhanced to provide the scalable services which is adaptable to the network status and user preferences. Therefore, the networking technologies for IPTV2.0 should tightly cooperate with application services and adaptive contents. Those technologies will be developed to construct the ubiquitous content service platform considering the evolution of networks and various converged services.

  • Advanced Manufacturing Technology(AMT), a comprehensive collection of new technologies for the efficiency and flexibility of manufacturing systems has received a growing attention recently, AMT consists of various industrial and technological components, homogeneous in some aspects while heterogeneous in others. Thus, it is difficult but necessary task to construct a classification framework in which the relationship among individual technologies are depicted in a meaningful fashion. In this, paper, we propose a hierarchical framework in which the objective and criteria of classification are decomposed into three level: industrialization, development and application of AMT. At the first and highest level, the main interest is to "industrialize" AMT. The major actors at this level are policy makers(public sector) and top management(private sector) and the primary classification criterion is the interrelationship between industry and technology. At the middle level exist system engineers whose main objective is to "develop" new technologies and/or systematize individual technologies. At the final and bottom level, shop floor managers need to "apply" AMT in order to enhance the efficiency and flexibility of manufacturing process. It should be stressed that, as a whole, the above three levels should be interactively linked to that each level contributes to the balanced development of AMT.

  • As the wireless communication technologies are being studied for application to maritime communication networks in a fusion of marine industries and IT technology, interference coordination techniques have been studied in the maritime heterogeneous networks. In this paper, we develop a simulator for measuring, verifying and evaluating performance of a maritime heterogeneous network. Unlike other previous simulators, the developed simulator applies enhanced inter-cell interference coordination (eICIC) that are being introduced in the 3GPP Release 10 for mitigating the cross-tier interference between ships. Furthermore, we investigate the effects of almost blank subframes (ABS) and cell range expansion (CRE) on the throughput of small cells in maritime heterogeneous networks by using the developed simulator.

  • Location-based concierge services (LBCS) are considered to be one of the main service functions provided in a city in ubiquitous technology spaces. A "Ubiquitous City" is defined as a city in which both public and private services can be delivered and received anywhere and anytime. One of the key elements that make location-based concierge services successful is the interoperability of location data. Currently, several existing technologies could provide LBCS including car navigation services and ubiquitous computing. However, lack of standardized structure for location data makes it impossible for heterogeneous technologies to be able to deliver uniform LBCS. The purpose of this paper is to develop standardized locational data structure so that heterogeneous technologies could provide efficient LBCS to all users of the various transportation modes.
