Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of east-west medical combined treatment of sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSNHL) through cooperation in a hospital. Methods : We treated three patients diagnosed as SSNHL by combination of herbal medicine, acupuncture, pharmoacupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, laser therapy and conventional medications. We evaluated the results of this treatment with pure tone audiometry, word recognition score(WRS), the changes in distortion product otoacoustic emissions(DPOAE) and visual analogue scale. Results : One of them showed a meaningful improvement in the hearing level of the low frequency region. The others showed 'Complete recovery' in pure tone audiometry and WRS. The subjective symptoms including tinnitus and ear fullness improved in three patients. Conclusion : This study suggests that east-west medical combined treatment is effective on SSNHL patients.

Objectives: The purpose of this health promotion project for Korean medicine is to promote the health of climacteric women in Boeun-gun. Methods: During the project, pressure needle acupuncture treatment, herbal medicine treatment, meditation pore therapy, and health education were conducted. To evaluate the results, basic health surveys (body height, body composition test, blood pressure etc.), female hormone tests, Kupperman's index (KI), Menopause-specific quality of life questionnaire (MENQOL), and Perceived stress scales (PSS) were conducted. Results: No significant change was observed in the body composition test and blood pressure after the project. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) was significantly increased after the project, but Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and total estrogen levels were not significantly changed. KI and MENQOL scores significantly decreased after the project, and significantly decreased in 4 out of 11 items of KI and 3 out of 4 domains of MEMQOL. No significant change was observed in the PSS score after the project. Conclusions: From the results of this project, it can be seen that the Korean medicine health promotion project can help alleviate symptoms of climacteric syndrome and postmenopausal syndrome.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of Korean medicine treatment on postherpetic neuralgia. Methods : Domestic databases(OASIS, KISS, RISS, KISTI, NDSL, KMbase) were used to search case studies related to Korean medical treatment of postherpetic neuralgia. Total 9 studies were selected. Results : A total 15 prescriptions were used 22 times in 14 cases. Among them, Sipjeondaebo-tang(十全大補湯) was the most frequently prescribed. Total 91 herbs were used and they were classified as tonifying and replenishing medicine(補益藥), exterior-releasing medicine(解表藥) and blood-activating and stasis-dispelling medicine(活血祛瘀藥) in the order of mostly used. In 8 studies, in addition to herbal medicine treatment, other Korean medicine treatments such as acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibusiton, cupping therapy and external agents were performed at the same time. Most frequently used acupoints were 足竅陰(GB44) and 商陽(LI1). Conclusions : This is the first study to analyze the trends of Korean medicine treatment for postherpetic neuralgia. Although there are some limitations, this study is thought to be helpful in the domestic treatment of postherpetic neuralgia in the future.

Objectives: This is a five-year survival and complete response (CR) report on pancreatic cancer treated with western medicine and Korean traditional medicine. Method: A 59-year-old woman diagnosed with pancreatic cancer visited ○○ Korean traditional medicine hospital after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy. She was treated with Korean traditional medicine, including acupuncture, abdominal moxibustion, wild ginseng pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine, which was based on integrated medicine therapy (IMT), from March 2018 to September 2022. The tumor size was measured by scanning with computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, and positron-emission tomography/CT. Adverse events were evaluated using laboratory conclusion and National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 5.0. Result: During four years and three months of treatment, IMT maintained safety. The patient finally reached five-year survival without any recurrence or complication (CR) on October 26, 2022. Conclusion: We suggest that an integrative approach including Korean traditional medicine can be a meaningful treatment option for pancreatic cancer. Further studies should be performed to establish the proper treatment protocol of integrative medicine for pancreatic cancer.

The purpose of this study is to report a case of cervical dystonia and the effects of a series of traditional Korean medicine treatments applied to the patient. The patient was treated with conventional treatment and traditional Korean medicine consisting of acupuncture, moxa, chuna therapy, and herbal medicine (Hoesu-san-gami) for 48 days. Progress was measured by Tsui's score, the Toronto Western Spasmodic Torticollis Rating Scale, and the Neck Disability Index. We observed some improvements in the patient's symptoms: Tsui's score of 15 to 11, TWSTRS of 63.3 to 47.8, and NDI of 24 to 17. These findings indicate that the application of traditional Korean medicine to cervical dystonia can yield decent clinical outcomes.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of clinical research on 'mild and sub-clinical depressions' in China. Method : The journal search was performed using China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI). Our inclusion criteria were as follows: TCM clinical trials for mild, sub-clinical, early stage of depression. Exclusion criteria were the following: non-TCM clinical trials, disease-associated depression related clinical trials. Results : We included 16 papers in this study. 1. In this study, we realized there have been several mild and sub-clinical depressions related clinical trials conducted in the field of TCM. 2. The result of 10 Journals used the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale for diagnosis and assessment criteria of mild and sub-clinical depressions. 3. The selected journals categorized by various interventions, such as, herbal medicine(7), acupuncture(4), miscellaneous(5). 4. Also, 7 Journals showed the significant improvements in patients with mild and sub-clinical depressions by TCM interventions, and 5 studies of TCM patent prescription reported that herbal medicine therapy has less side effect than the western medicine. Conclusion : Through this study, we found out that several researchers in China performed clinical trials on mild and sub-clinical depressions constantly. From the result of this study, we need to concern about the necessity of research on the mild and sub-clinical depression in Korea. Therefore, this result could be used as a meaningful reference for the design of future clinical trials.

Objective: The cause of fibromyalgia is not defined precisely. Fibromyalgia has numerous symptoms that tend to vary from person-to-person. Several different treatments have emerged in recent times. This case will report on traditional Korean medicine patients who suffer from multiple pain and physical disorders when fibromyalgia is suspected. Method: During a hospitalization period, a patient was given a combination of traditional Korean medicine therapy (such as herbal medicine and acupuncture) and analgesic drugs. We measured the state and progress of this case using Numeric rating scale and EuroQol-5D. Results: After the treatments, the patient's pain was controlled and the NRS score decreased. The overall symptoms of the patient and the EQ-5D both improved positively. Conclusion: Traditional Korean medicine treatment helps to relieve the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Hyperlipidemia is one of the major factors causing the atherosclerosis of coronary arteries and a well-documented modifiable risk factor for stroke, especially of the ischemic type. Constipation is the condition of being unable to empty the bowels frequently enough or effectively. However, it is usually temporary and not a serious disease. Salicornia herbacea is a sea coast plant that grows on the western and southern coastal beaches and salt flats of the Korean peninsula. Belonging to Chenopodiaceae by biological classification. Salicornia herbacea is not known from research except that it contains plenty of minerals. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of treatment with Hamcho-hwanand to observe changes in total cholesterol (T-Chol) high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), triglyceride (TG) and constipation. After treatment, total cholesterol decreased from 273mg/dl to 235mg/dl. Triglyceride decreased from 201mg/dl to 126mg/dl. HDL cholesterol increased from 30mg/dl to 40mg/dl. Constipation changed for the better. These results support a role for oriental medical therapy in treating hyperlipidemia and constipation. Further case studies of herbal treatment of this ailment are needed.

Objectives : This study is clinical report of one atopic dermatitis patient with exudate.Methods : We treated a 16-year old woman patient with acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, herbal bath, aroma cream therapy and western medicine. The improvement of the patient was evaluated by SCORAD INDEX and photography.Results : The SCORAD Index score of admission day at hospital was 73.5, and the SCORAD INDEX score of discharge day was 11.4. Amount of exudate and the score of oozing were decreased.Consults : The complex treatments of korean medicine and western medicine was effective to improve of atopic dermatitis patient with exudate. And the influence of weather condition to prognosis of atopic dermatitis with exudate was observated. It is necessary to have more observations and case reports.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medical treatment in case of germ cell tumor patient treated by chemotherapy. Methods: The patient was treated with Korean medical treatment (herbal medicine, acupuncture) for 11 months. By taking computed tomography and laboratory testing, we could compare before and after. Results: The patient treated with combination of Korean medical treatment and Chemotherapy recovered after taking Korean medicine for 11 months. Panax ginseng, C.A. Meyer, Astragalus membranaceus, Rhus Verniciflua Stokes were main ingredient of the korean medical treatment. Conclusions: This report shows the Korean medical treatment is effective on Germ cell tumor patient. Korean medical treatment alleviates the side-effect of Chemotherapy such as nausea, vomiting, hot flush and anorexia. Also Blood test results prove long-term use of Korean medicine is safe for lung and kidney function.
