  • The aim of this study was to evaluate effects of the balance ability on the heel height (flat, low heel[3cm], and high heel[7cm]) and high heeled habituation (group A is used to a low heeled shoes (<7cm) and group B is used to a high heeled shoes (${\geq}7cm$). Thirty-five subjects participated in this study. In this study, the static balance with opened eyes and closed eyes and dynamic balance were measured. Also functional reach test was tested. The results found that the static balance ability was the best in a 7cm heeled shoes with open eyes and closed eyes, but there was not significant difference between group A and Group B. Dynamic balance ability with walking velocity and cadence were significant difference between Group A and B. In the walking velocity, a flat was the fastest, followed by 7cm heel and 3cm heel with Group A while 3cm and 7cm, then a flat with Group B. Also Cadence pattern was similar. Functional balance ability was the highest with a flat, but it was not difference significantly between Group A and B. Therefore, this study demonstrated that the habituation to the high heel altered gait velocity and cadence of dynamic balance ability.

  • This study was designed as a reference of vertical dimension in prosthetic treatment. The author analyzed six facial measurements, namely, (1) the height of lower face at maximum intercuspal position, (2) the height of lower face at resting position, (3) midface, (4) external ear and lateral wall of orbit, (5) interpupillary distance, (6) distance between pupil and mouth in the 100 Won-kwang Univ. Dental collage students(50 : male, 50 : female), who have normal occlusion, no posterior prosthesis, no experience of orthodontic treatment, and no deformity of facial soft tissue and no temporomandibular dysfunction. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The length of midface was shortest and the inter-pupillary distance was longest in both male and female. 2. The length difference with the length of midface and lower face at maximum intercuspal position was 5.64mm in male and 2.23mm in female, so the lower face was longer, 3. The facial measuring component, similar to lower face at maximum intercuspation, was the length of between medial wall of external ear and lateral wall of orbit. It's difference was 1.3mm in male, 1.77mm in female, and the lower face was shorter. 4. The difference of lower facial length in resting position and maximum intercuspation was 2.48mm in male, 2.24mm in female, the length of resting position was therefore longer. 5. The most clost correlation with the height of maximum intercuspal positioning lower face was resting lower face in both groups.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the gait characteristics and interaction between lower extremity joints according to shoe's heel heights in young women. Participants were selected as subject consisted of young and healthy women (age: $23.71{\pm}1.49yrs$, height: $165.92{\pm}2.00cm$, body weight: $54.37{\pm}3.46kg$) and walked with 3 types of shoe's high-heel (0, 5, 9 cm). The variables analyzed consisted of the displacement of Y axis in center of mass ([COM]; (position, velocity), front rear(FR) and left right(LR) angle of trunk, lower extremity joint angle (hip, knee, ankle) and asymmetric index (AI%). The displacement of Y axis in COM position showed the greater movement according to increase of shoe's heel heights, but velocity of COM showed the decrease according to increase of shoe's heel heights during gait. The hip and knee angle didn't show significant difference statistically according to increase of shoe's heel height, but left hip and knee showed more extended posture than those of right hip and knee angle. Also ankle angle didn't show significant difference statistically, but 9 cm heel showed more plantarflexion than those of 5 cm and 0 cm. The asymmetric index (AI%) showed more asymmetric 9 cm heel than those of 0 cm and 5 cm. The FR and LR angle in trunk tilting didn't show significant difference statistically according to the increase of shoe's heel height during gait in young women.

  • To predict residual stresses of aluminum ring rolls after quenching and element removal, 2-D and 3-D thermal elasto-plastic analyses were performed. Strains measured by three step sectioning method were directly compared to those analysed using ABAQUS's element removal. Numerical residual stresses after quenching had similar tendency to measured ones after 2 step aging, but the difference between numerical and measured ones was large. The difference is the reason why there are nonuniform residual stress distributions to ring height direction due to small height of ring, It is judged that the increase of ring height will improve the accuracy of measured ones and decrease the difference. By direct comparison between 3-D numerical strains to simulate three step sectioning method and measured ones, the accuracy of measurement and analysis can be improved. It is concluded that there can be predicted the deformation behavior on machining complex shaped large structures with residual stresses.

  • This study was to evaluate the utilization of terrestrial light detection and ranging for forest inventory in coniferous forests. Heights and diameter of the stand trees were measured manually using the traditional measurement method and the method using terrestrial LiDAR. The results of two methods were compared and analyzed to evaluate accuracy and feasibility. The terrestrial LiDAR used fixed and handy types to compare the accuracy between different operational methods. Comparative analyses used a paired t-test and Bland-Altman plot analysis. In the case of tree heights, the average of difference between the traditional method and terrestrial LiDAR for each plot was 0.81 m, -0.07 m, and 0.13 m for fixed type; 2.88 m, 1.19 m, and 0.93 m for the handy type. In the case of tree diameter at breast height, the average value of the difference between traditional methods and terrestrial LiDAR for each plot was 0.13 cm, -0.66 cm, and -0.03 cm for fixed type; 2.36 cm, 2.13 cm, and 1.92 cm for the handy type. The values from the method using the fixed type was highly consistent with that using the traditional measurement methods; the average difference was closer to zero. The crown density influences the precision of the height measurement using terrestrial LiDAR in coniferous forests. Therefore, future studies should focus on verifying the accuracy of terrestrial LiDAR in forests and on expanding the utilization of terrestrial LiDARs according to their operational methods.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the attitudes of middle-school students about height and their behaviors related to height gain. Methods : One thousand four hundred twenty two middle-school students were included. We requested that the students complete a battery of questionnaires asking about problems associated with height. Results : There was a clear difference between real height and desired height. Most students (83.7%) had height dissatisfaction. Most students (91.1%) were concerned about their height. Few students made efforts to improve their height, even though most students had height dissatisfaction and were concerned about their height. Herbal medicine had a tendency to become popularized in treatments for height. Students generally did not judge their friends by height, but there was a small tendency to ignore shorter friends and to feel a sense of inferiority around taller friends. Most students had a greater desire to have a beautiful face than a good body, especially to be tall. Most students thought that there would be some handicaps in life if they had a short stature. Conclusion : The attitudes and concerns about height in adolescence should be understood, and recognized as one aspect of treatment for problems associated with height.

  • Height has become one of the most important factors to determine the pulmonary function test index, and there is a high correlation between them, so that they have been utilized for evaluating pulmonary function test predictive value or nomogram. Therefore, we have tried to find out that difference and if there is any correlation and linear relationship between height and forced expiratory flow curve. There were a total of 163 subjects, male 93 and female 70. This study was done at the Department of Pulmonary Function Test of Jeon-Ju Presbyterian Hospital and we measured the index at the forced expiratory flow curve of FVC, $FEV_{1.0}$, $FEV_{1.0}$/FVC, $FEF_{25-75%}$, and $FEF_{200-1200m{\ell}}$. When we subjected the group of height more than 160cm, there were gradual increments at FVC(p<0.001), $FEV_{1.0}$(p<0.001), $FEF_{25-75%}$(p<0.05) and $FEF_{200-1200m{\ell}}$(p<0.001), but no changes at $FEV_{1.0}$/FVC in terms of forced expiratory flow curve index. We have analyzed the relationship between height and forced expiratory flow curve, there was a close relationship at FVC(r=0.670, p<0.01), $FEV_{1.0}$(r=0.491, p<0.01), $FEF_{25-75%}$ (r=0.175, p<0.05) and $FEF_{200-1200m{\ell}}$(r=0.370, p<0.01) but there was reciprocal relationship at $FEV_{1.0}$/FVC(r=-0.215, p<0.01). We have tried simple regression analysis to see if height affects forced expiratory flow curve index as a sector, and the result was $FVC(\ell)=0.0642{\times}height(cm)-7.2978$(p<0.01, $R^2=0.449$), $FEV_{1.0}(\ell)=0.0407{\times}height(cm)-4.2774$ (p<0.01, $R^2=0.2411$), $FEV_{1.0}/FVC(%)=-0.2892{\times}height(cm)+121.44$(p<0.01, $R^2=0.0464$), $FEF_{25-75%}(\ell/sec)=0.0176{\times}height(cm)-0.7876$(p<0.05, $R^2=0.0237$), $FEF_{200-1200m{\ell}}(\ell/sec)=0.0967{\times}height(cm)-11.037$(p<0.01, $R^2=0.1214$) this was approved statistically. According to this study, if height is taller than average, forced expiratory flow curve index were increased, there was a close relationship between height and forced expiratory flow curve, and there was a linear relationship as sector between height and forced expiratory flow curve index. Therefore, researches that study other factors such as sex, age, weight, body surface area, and obesity indexes other than height should be done to see if there are any further relationships.

  • Objective: There exist gender differences in pulsatile contour waveform. Women have a greater age-related increase in left ventricular mass than do men and more likely to experience symptomatic heart failure after infarction. SDPTG (the second derivative of photoplethysmogram waveform) is a noninvasive method for evaluating the pulse wave and is correlated with age and other risk factors for atherosclerosis. We studied the effect of gender on SDPTG and made clear why the gender differences appear. Methods: To study the effects of effect factors, including height and blood pressure, on SDPTG in the fourth decade, data on height, weight, PTD (pulse transit distance), blood pressure, serum lipid levels, and SDPTG were collected in 115 laboratory healthy men and women. SDPTG is derived from double-differential processing of fingertip photoplethysmography and consists of a, b, c, and d waves in systole and an e wave in diastole; SDPTG aging index (AI) was calculated as (b-c-d-e)/a. Results: There were significant gender-related differences of SDPTG AI, height, and blood pressure. Age, height, and mean blood pressure were respectively and significantly correlated with SDPTG AI. SDPTG is dependent upon age, height, and blood pressure. Restricting analysis to SDPTG AI, age, height, and mean blood pressure, yielded that there were gender-related differences in SDPTG AI (P<0.05) which were derived from those of height (F<0.001, df=l, P=0.994). Conclusions: These new data may help to explain previous findings about age-related differences in pulsatile contour waveforms and why gender differences of SDPTG appear. The results of this study suggest that SDPTG AI, used for evaluation of biological vascular aging, should be calibrated by height as well as age and blood pressure.
