  • Experimental investigations have been made to study the double-diffusive nature of convection of an initially stratified salt-water solution due to heating from below in a rotating cylindrical cavity. The objective is to examine the flow phenomena and the heat transfer characteristics according to the changes in temperature gradient, concentration gradient and rotating velocity of cavity. Thermal and solutal boundary conditions at side wall are adiabatic and impermeable, respectively. The top and bottom plate are maintained each at constant temperature and concentration. The cavity is put into a state of solid body rotation. Like the stationary case, the types of initially-formed flow pattern are classified into three regimes depending on the effective Rayleigh number and Taylor number; stagnant flow regime, single mixed-layer flow regime and successively formed multi-mixed layer flow regime. At the same effective Rayleigh number, the number of initially-formed mixed layer and its growth rate decrease as the effect of rotation increases. The temperature and concentration profiles are both uniform in each layer due to convective mixing in the layered-flow regime, but look both liner in stagnant flow regime and single mixed-layer flow regime. At the interface between adjacent layers, the temperature changes smoothly but the concentration changes rapidly.

  • This paper proposes the introduction of TAR(Threshold Autoregressive) model for short-term load forecasting including temperature variable. TAR model is a piecewise linear autoregressive model. In the scatter diagram of daily peak load versus daily maximum or minimum temperature, we can find out that the load-temperature relationship has a negative slope in lower regime and a positive slope in upper regime due to the heating and cooling load, respectively. In this paper, daily peak load was forecasted by applying TAR model using this load-temperature characteristic in these regimes. The results are compared with those of linear and quadratic regression models.

  • It is found that with increasing power, the measured electron energy distribution by Langmuir probe evolves into a Druyvesteyn-like electron energy distribution in the low-pressure regime of 1mTorr in a small inductively coupled plasma. Electron bounce resonance is introduced to explain the transition of the electron energy distribution against the rf power, The energy diffusion coefficients which determine the shape of the electron energy distribution in elastic range are calculated with and without electron bounce resonance. This electron energy distribution transition is well explained by the electron bounce resonance.

  • This study deals with the unsteady close-contact melting of solid blocks on a flat surface subject to convective heating. Normalizing the model equations in reference to the steady solution successfully leads them to cover constant heat flux and isothermal limits at small and large extremes of the Biot number, respectively. The resulting equations admit a compactly expressed analytical solution, which includes the previous solutions as a subset. Based on the steady solution, the characteristics of close-contact melting can be categorized into constant heat flux, transition, and isothermal regimes, the boundaries of which appear to be nearly independent of the contact force. The unsteady solutions corresponding to Biot numbers in the transition regime show intermediate behaviors between those of the two limits. With a proper approximation, the present solution procedure can cope with the case of variable fluid temperature and heat transfer coefficient. Regardless of imposed conditions, the mean normalized Nusselt number during the unsteady process asymptotically approaches to a constant value as the Biot number comes close to each limit.

  • Concrete is generally accepted to have good inherent fire resistance. It mainly relies on the assumption that concrete has low heat-transfer characteristic and spatting does not occur during the course of a fire. However, the significant numbers of fire accidents have shown in recent years that incidence of spatting has caused sever damages to many structures. This review has systematically investigated the behaviour of concrete in fire, including phenomenon of spatting, with respect to the theorical consideration and experimental results. Explosive spatting is caused by the build-up of water vapor pressure in concrete subjected to increasing temperatures. When this pressure exceeds the tensile strength of the concrete over a fire-exposed area, explosive spatting can result in a typical temperature range between $200^{\circ}C\;and\;400^{\circ}C$. The major functions are known to be moisture content, pore pressure, load ratio, and heating regime.

  • We have investigated different radial temperature gradient effect on the stability of Taylor-Couette flow. The radius ratio and aspect ratio of the model was 0.825 and 48, respectively. Two heating exchangers were used for generating different temperature gradient along the radial direction. The change of flow regime in the Taylor-Couette flow was studied by increasing the Reynolds number. The results showed that: as Gr is increased in helical vortex flow regime, the vortices with the same direction of convection flow increased in size, and the vortex moving velocity also increased. It is also shown that the presence of temperature gradient obviously increased the flow instability when the Richardson number is larger than 0.0045.

  • In this study we investigated post ELA(Excimer Laser Annealing) effect on SMC (Silicide Mediated Crystalization) poly-Si (Polycrystalline Silicon) to improve the characteristics of poly-Si. Combining SMC and XeCl ELA were used to crystallize the a-Si (amorphous Silicon) at various ELA energy density for LTPS (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon). We fabricated the conventional SMC poly-Si with no SPC (Solid Phase Crystallization) phase using UV heating method[1] and irradiated excimer laser on SMC poly-Si, so called SMC-ELA poly-Si. After using post ELA we can get better surface morphology than conventional ELA poly-Si and enhance characteristics of SMC poly-Si. We also observed the threshold energy density regime in SMC-ELA poly-Si like conventional ELA poly-Si.

  • In this paper are presented main power and gasdynamic characteristics of C-l6VK hypersonic test cell of Research Test Center of CIAM. Gasdynamic adjustment of the C-l6VK test cell was carried out with the working section constructed on scheme of Ramjet/scramjet test in free stream. Gasdynamic adjustment was conducted stage by stage in tile following sequence. First, check and preparation of all technical systems and checking measuring system. Than determination of the characteristics of test cell on cold (without the heating of air at entrance) regime and determination of the characteristics of test cell on regimes with the heating of air. Finally determination of tile characteristics of test cell with the loading of the working part by object. On tile final stage of gasdynamic adjustment two experiments with tile axisymmetric Scramjet model loaded into the working part of test cell were conducted. The first experiment was conducted with the purpose of determination of flow parameters with the object leaded into the working part and verification of experiment cyclogram. The second experiment was conducted with injection of hydrogen into the combustion chamber of object, that is tile conditions on test cell simulated Scramjet flight Mach number M = 6. Such methodology of gasdynamic adjustment allows to determine influence of experimental object on flow parameters in the working part at different conditions of experiment (with the burning in combustion chamber of object and without the homing), and also to compare flow characteristics in the object duct.
