  • In the present study, fuel cell driven ground source heat pump system is applied to a large community building and performance of the heat pump system is computationally analyzed. Conduction heat transfer between brine pipe and ground is analyzed by TEACH code to predict the performance of heat pump system. Predicted COP of the heat pump system and the energy cost were compared with variation of the location of the objective building the water saturation rate of soil and the driven powers of heat pump system. Significant reduction of energy cost can be accomplished by employing the fuel cell driven heat pump system in comparison with the late-night electricity driven system. It is due to the low electricity production cost of fuel cell system and the application of recovered waste heat generated during electricity production process to the heating of large community building.

  • CP (Commercially Pure) titanium has been widely used in various industries such as in energy plants and bio-materials because of an excellent corrosion resistance and its non-toxicity to the human body. But there are limitations for usage as structural materials due to low strength. The tensile properties of CP titanium could be improved by microstructure refinement such as in a SPD (Severe Plastic Deformation) process. However, high strengthening of CP titanium wire is impossible by SPD processes like ECAP (Equal Channel Angular Pressing), HPT (High-Pressure Torsion), and the ARB (Accumulative Roll Bonding) process. The study purposes are to increase the strength of CP titanium wire by optimization of the cold drawing process and the harmonization with mechanical properties by heat treatments for the next forming process. The optimization process was investigated with regard to the design of drawing dies and the reduction ratio of cross sections. The elongations of high strength CP titanium were controlled by heat treatment.

  • The present study is to analyze the thermoelectric properties of $Bi_{0.4}Sb_{1.6}Te_3$ thermoelectric materials fabricated by the mechanical grinding process. The $Bi_{0.4}Sb_{1.6}Te_3$ powders were prepared by the combination of mechanical milling and reduction treating methods using simply crushed pre-alloyed $Bi_{0.4}Sb_{1.6}Te_3$ powder. The mechanical milling was carried out using the tumbler-ball mill and planetary ball mill. The tumbler-ball milling had an effect on the carrier mobility rather than the carrier concentration, whereas, the latter on the carrier concentration. The specific electric resistivity and Seebeck coefficient decreased with increasing the reduction-heat-treatment time. The thermal conductivity continuously increased with increasing the reduction-heat-treatment time. The figure of merit of the $Bi_{0.4}Sb_{1.6}Te_3$ sintered body prepared by the mechanical grinding process showed higher value than one of the sintered body of the simply crushed powder.

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine the efficacy and mechanism of fraction IV cold ethanol fractionation and pasteurization (60$^{\circ}C$ heat treatment for 10 h), involved in the manufacture of albumin from human plasma, in the removal and/or inactivation of the hepatitis A virus (HAV). Samples from the relevant stages of the production process were spiked with HAV and the amount of virus in each fraction then quantified using a 50% tissue culture infectious dose (TCID$\_$50/). HAV was effectively partitioned from albumin during the fraction IV cold ethanol fractionation with a log reduction factor of 3.43. Pasteurization was also found to be a robust and effective step in inactivating HAV, where the titers were reduced from an initial titer of 7.60 log TCID$\_$50/ to undetectable levels within 5 h of treatment. The log reduction factor achieved during pasteurization was $\geq$4.76. Therefore, the current results indicate that the production process for albumin has sufficient HAV reducing capacity to achieve a high margin of virus safety.

  • The potential application of ultrafine cerium oxide (ceria, $CeO_2$) as an oxygen gas sensor has been investigated. Ceria was synthesized by a thermochemical process: first, a precursor powder was prepared by spray drying cerium-nitrate solution. Heat treatment in air was then performed to evaporate the volatile components in the precursor, thereby forming nanostructured $CeO_2$ having a size of approximately 20 nm and specific surface area of 100 $m^2/g$. After sintering with loosely compacted samples, hydrogen-reduction heat treatment was performed at 773K to increase the degree of non-stoichiometry, x, in $CeO_{2-x}$. In this manner, the electrical conductivity and oxygen-response ability could be enhanced by increasing the number of oxygen vacancies. After the hydrogen reduction at 773K, $CeO_{1.5}$ was obtained with nearly the same initial crystalline size and surface. The response time $t_{90}$ measured at room temperature was extremely short at 4 s as compared to 14 s for normally sintered $CeO_2$. We believe that this hydrogen-reduced ceria can perform capably as a high-performance oxygen sensor with good response abilities even at room temperature.

  • Taking a view of joining by welding the IN713C to SCM440 and SCM415 steel in production of turbochargers, the frictin welding process may be utilized as a new approach for joining them of other conventional welding processes. It is because the friction welding has more technical and technical and economic advantages than the other welding processes. As this welding process has the characteristics such as curtaliment of production time and materials and cost reduction, etc.. So, this paper deals with determining the preper friction welding condition and analyzing various mechanical properties of friction welded joints of the super heat resisting steel to alloy stee(IN713C to SCM440 and SCM415). And the in-process real-time weld quality evaluation technique by acoustic emission during friction welding of IN713C to SCM440 and SCM415 steels with higher confidence and relibility has been much required even though it might be the first trial approach for developing it. Then, this first study aimed to develop the optimization of dissimilar friction welding of heat resisting steels (INC713 to SCM440, SCM415) for turbine, considering on strength and toughness.

  • In order to investigate the effects of PAG oil concentration on heat transfer performance and pressure drop during gas cooling process of $CO_2$, the experiments on fin-tube heat exchanger of $CO_2$ heat pump were performed. The experimental apparatus consists of a gas cooler, a heater, a chiller, a mass flow meter, a pump and measurement system. Experiments were conducted in various experimental conditions, which were inlet temperature($110^{\circ}C$), mass flow rates (50, 55, 60, 65, 70 g/s) and PAG oil concentration(0 to 2.6 wt%). Heat transfer rate decreased with the increase of the oil concentration and the decrease of inlet pressure. And pressure drop increased with the increase of the oil concentration and mass flow rate of refrigerant. The COP reduction by deterioration of gas cooler performance with oil concentration was analyzed. When inlet pressure of gas cooler is 100 bar, the COP reduction was estimated by 6% under 1 wt% of oil concentration.

  • The effects of heat input(1.5~3.6kJ/mm) and postweld heat treatment(PWHT, $600^{\circ}C$, 40hr.) on the TMCP HSB600 steel weldments made by GMAW process were investigated. The tensile strength and CVN impact energy of as-welded specimens decreased with increasing heat input. The fine-grained acicular ferrite was mainly formed in the low heat input while polygonal and side plate ferrites were dominated in the high inputs. Meanwhile, tensile strength and hardness of PWHT weldments decreased due to the coarsening of microstructure and reduction of residual stresses.

  • The mass balance of the unit processes of the Advanced spent fuel Conditioning Process was calculated to obtain basic information. Based on this mass balance, the changes in decay heat and radioactivity of the spent fuel due to the metallization in the high temperature molten salt system were estimated. The decay heat and the radioactivity were calculated by using the ORIGEN2 computer code, and the result showed that the decay heat and the radioactivity of the metallized spent fuel ingot were $24.27\%\;and\;24.24\%$, respectively, compared to those of oxide spent fuel.
