Hot air heater with light oil combustion is the most common heater for greenhouse heating in the winter season in Korea. However, since the heat efficiency of the heater is about 80%, considerable unused heat in the form of exhaust gas heat discharges to atmosphere. In order to capture this exhaust gas heat a heat recovery system for plant bed heating in the greenhouse was built and tested in the hot air heating system of greenhouse. The system consists of a heat exchanger made of copper pipes, ${\phi}\;12.7{\times}0.7t$ located inside the rectangular column of $330{\times}330{\times}900mm$, a water circulation pump, circulation plastic pipe and a water tame The total heat exchanger area is $1.5m^2$, calculated considering the heat exchange amount between flue gas and water circulated in the copper pipes. The system was attached to the exhaust gas path. The heat recovery system was designed as to even recapture the latent heat of flue gas when exposing to low temperature water in the heat exchanger. According to performance test it can recover 45,200 to 51,000kJ/hr depending on the water circulation rates of 330 to $690{\ell}$/hr from the waste heat discharged. The exhaust gas temperature left from the heat exchanger dropped to $100^{circ}C$ from $270^{circ}C$ by the heat exchange between the water and the flue gas, while water gained the difference and temperature increased to $38^{circ}C$ from $21^{circ}C$ at the water flow rate of $690{\ell}$/hr. And, the condensed water amount varies from 16 to $43m{\ell}$ at the same water circulation rates. This condensing heat recovery system can reduce boiler fuel consumption amount in a day by 34% according to the feasibility study of the actual mimitomato greenhouse. No combustion load was observed in the hot air heater.
Recently, energy excessive consumption and environmental pollution are the social issued. The most efficient way to solve both energy excessive consumption and environmental pollution is existing combustion system improved. This study was part of the assume and commercial used existing waste heat recovery condensing boiler to low emission performance for exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) and thermal efficiency rise by applying the condensed water recirculation(CWR) conducted. The researchers applied the EGR and CWR develop a new concept for the condensed water recirculation waste heat recovery condensing boiler. Waste heat recovery condensing boiler applied to the condensed water recirculation thermal efficiency of the same conditions was increased by about 4.8~5.5% and pollution emission also decreased.
The purpose of this research is to study the utility of prediction program like a F.E.M. analysis for energy recovery of heat exchanger with heat pipe which uses arbitrary groove wick. The program is based on the utility by the experimental and applytical method of the single heat pipe. It is also expanded and applied in the prediction program of the heat exchanger. The results are as follows; 1) The effective thermal conductivity of the groove wick with arbitrary shape is counted by the thermal resistance change. 2) The more the number of rows, the more the effect energy recovery changing by the number of rows, the bigger the free velocity, the smaller the effect of energy recovery. 3) The effect of energy recovery increases according to the value of the rate of mass flow (Me/Mc) and also number of rows. 4) The comparison between calculated and data shows good agreement within 2.5% error, therefore the F.E.M. analysis of the study is useful to predict the performance of heat pipe-heat exchanger.
Background: Heat recovery is one of the prominent ways to save a considerable amount of conventional fossil fuel and minimize its adverse effects on the environment. The rotary heat exchanger is one of the most effective and efficient devices for heat recovery or heat exchanging purposes. It is a regenerative type of heat exchanger, which has been studied and used for many heat recovery purposes. However, regenerative thermal wheels have been mostly used as heat recovery systems in buildings. For modeling a rotary regenerator, it is very important to numerically consider all the factors involved, such as effectiveness, rotational speed, geometrical size and shape, and pressure drop (${\Delta}p$). In recent times, several researchers have actively studied the rotary heat exchangers, both theoretically and experimentally. Reviews: In this paper different advances in the numerical modeling of regenerative rotary heat exchangers in relation to fluid flow and heat transfer have been discussed. Researchers have indicated that the effectiveness of the regenerative rotary heat exchanger depends on various factors including, among many others, rotational speed, rotational period and combustion power. It is reported that with the increase of periodic rotation the deviation of theoretical results from the experimental result increases. The available literature indicates that regenerative heat exchangers are having relatively more effectiveness (60-80%), compared to other heat exchangers. It is also observed that the finite difference method and finite volume methods are mostly used for discretizing the heat transfer governing equations, under some assumptions. Research also indicates that for the effectiveness calculation the ${\varepsilon}-NTU$ method is the most popular and convenient.
In order to control indoor air quality and save energy. it is needed to install a suitable ventilation system equipped with heat exchanger for heat recovery. Paper heat exchanger can recover $50{\sim}70$ of the enthalpy difference between supply and exhaust air. The purpose of this research is to obtain the experimental correlations for the friction factor, heat transfer coefficient, mass transfer coefficient and permeance of paper heat exchanger, which can be used for the performance prediction of the paper heat exchanger. Pressure drop at various velocities and heat transfer rate at various dry-bulb temperatures, relative humidities, and specific humidities are measured to make experimental correlations. The results of prediction using correlations show fairly good agreement with experimental data.

The performance of heat exchanger using oscillating heat pipe (OHP) for low temperature waste heat recovery was evaluated. OHP used in this study was made from low finned copper tubes connected by many turns to become the closed loop of serpentine structure. The OHP heat exchanger was formed into shell and tube type. R-22 and R-141b were used as the working fluids of OHP with a fill ratio of 40 vol.%. Water was used as the working fluid of shell side. As the experimental parameters, the inlet temperature difference between heating and cooling water and the mass velocity of water were changed. The mass velocity of water was changed from 30 kg/$m^2$s to 92 kg/$m^2$s. The experimental results showed that the heat recovery rate linearly increased as the mass velocity and the inlet temperature difference of water increased. Finally, the performance of OHP heat exchanger was evaluated by $\varepsilon$-NTU method. It was found that the effectiveness would be 80% if NTU were about 1.5.

Heat transfer characteristics of a heat exchanged for low temperature waste heat recovery using oscillating capillary tube heat pipe (OCHP) were evaluated against the charging ratio variation of working fluid and various working fluids. R-l42b, R-22 and R-290 were used as working a 2.6mm in outside diameter, 1.44mm in inside diameter with 101m length and 140 turns. Charging ratio of working fluid was 40% and 50%. water was used as secondary fluid. Inlet temperature and mass velocity for each secondary fluid were 297 K, 280 K and 9~27 $4kg/m^2s$, respectively. From experimental results, it was found that heat transfer performance of R-22 was higher than those of R-142b and R-290 and it was proportional to Figure of Merit for thermosyphon. As a result, it was thought that R-22 was the most reasonable working fluid of waste heat recovery for low temperature waste heat recovery.

In this study, high performance waste heat recovery heat exchanger was developed using the bayonet tube with spiral serrated fins. Especially, heat exchanger of the bayonet tube type was operated well because of double water passes mechanism and characteristics. A cooling water Passes down inner tubes to thimble-form tubes, then flows back up as it boils. The heat exchanger of bayonet tube type was composed of steel tube with 7channels$(I.D_1\;14mm.\;I.D_2\;31.6mm)$ and spiral serrated fins. The performance tests were conducted under the following conditions A cooling water flow rate was 273kg/h and engine l·pm was varied from 750rpm to 3500 rpm. From the experimental result. waste heat recovery was 9.21kW when engine rpm was 3500. and pressure drop was $15\~260mmHg/m^3$ The effectiveness of heat exchanger was about /$0.7\~0.9$. The performance of heat exchanger was evaluated by using the $\varepsilon-NTU$ method. In the study the NTU of the heat exchanger was $1.57\~2.33$.
