  • This report Introduces a total heat exchanger in a solar air-conditioning system using Lithium Chloride(LiCl) solution. The hot and humid outside air is cooled and dehumidified by LiCl solution that is sprayed on the packed layer of the total heat exchanger. LiCl solution once diluted is concentrated again in a regenerator using solar energy. Three types as the packed materials were used in this experiment and the dehumidification performance was evaluated by the value of $k_xa(kg/h{\cdot}m^3{\cdot}{\Delta}x)$, overall mass transfer coefficient based on a humidity ratio potential difference, the influence of inlet LiCl solution flow rate, air flow rate, packed layer height on $k_xa$ was investigated. It was found that air flow rate, LiCl solution flow rate, packed layer height for all types had a great influnce on the value of $k_xa$.

  • The multi-layer insulating curtains used in the experiment was produced in six combinations using non-woven fabric containing aerogel and compared and analyzed by measuring heat flux and heat perfusion rates due to weight, thickness and temperature changes. Using silica aerogel, which have recently been noted as new material insulation, this study tries to produce a new combination of multi-layer insulating curtains that can complement the shortcomings of the multi-layer insulating curtains currently in use and maintain and improve its warmth, and analyze the thermal properties. The heat flux means the amount of heat passing per unit time per unit area, and the higher the value, the more heat passing through the multi-layer insulating curtain, and it can be judged that the heat retention is low. The weight and thickness of multi-layer insulation curtains were found to be highly correlated with thermal insulation. In particular, insulation curtains combined with aerogel meltblown non-woven fabric had relatively higher thermal insulation than insulation curtains with the same number of insulation materials. However, the aerogel meltblown non-woven fabric is weak in light resistance and durability, and there is a problem that the production process and aerogel are scattering. In order to solve this problems, the combination of expanded aerogel non-woven fabric and hollow fiber non-woven fabric, which are relatively simple manufacturing processes and excellent warmth, are suitable for use in real farms.

  • This study evaluated the applicability of the convergence technology by deriving the optimum conditions about operating factors of electrical resistance heating to enhance the soil flushing effect on soil contaminated with bunker C oil in the coastal landfill area. As a result of the batch scale experiment, the flushing efficiency of the VG-2020 was higherthan that of the Tween-80, and the flushing efficiency increased by about 1.4 times at 60℃ compared to room temperature. As a result of the electrical resistance heating box experiment, soil temperature rose to 100℃ in about 40~80 minutes in soil with water content of 20~40%, and it was found that the heat transfer efficiency is excellent when the pipe-shaped electrode rod with STS 316 material is located in a triangular arrangement in saturated soil. In addition, it was confirmed that the interval between the electrode rods to maintain the soil temperature above 60℃ under the optimum conditions was 1.5 m, and the soil flushing box experiment accompanying electrical resistance heating showed TPH reduction efficiency of about 55% at 5 Pore Volume, and satisfied the Korean standard for the conservation of soil (less than TPH 2,000 mg/kg) at 10 Pore Volume.

  • The research on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of lead bismuth(LBE) is significant for the thermal-hydraulic calculation, safety analysis and practical application of lead-based fast reactors(LFR). In this paper, a new CFD model is proposed to solve the thermal-hydraulic analysis of LBE. The model includes two parts: turbulent model and turbulent Prandtl, which are the important factors for LBE. In order to find the best model, the experiment data and design of 19-pin hexagonal rod bundle with spacer grid, undertaken at the Karlsruhe Liquid Metal Laboratory (KALLA) are used for CFD calculation. Furthermore, the turbulent model includes SST k - 𝜔 and k - 𝜀; the turbulent Prandtl includes Cheng-Tak and constant (Prt =1.5,2.0,2.5,3.0). Among them, the combination between SST k - 𝜔 and Cheng-Tak is more suitable for the experiment. But in the low Pe region, the deviation between the experiment data and CFD result is too much. The reason may be the inlet-effect and when Pe is in a low level, the number of molecular thermal diffusion occupies an absolute advantage, and the buoyancy will enhance. In order to test and verify versatility of the model, the NCCL performed by the Nuclear Thermal-hydraulic Laboratory (Nuthel) of Xi'an Jiao tong University is used for CFD to calculate. This paper provides two verification examples for the new universal model.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics of various estrous behavior and ovulation time in dairy cows and heifers. In total, 73 ovulations and 61 estrous detection were observed in 89 Holstein cows. Various estrous behavior were observed during 72 hours from two days after $PGF_2{\alpha}$ injection and their relation with the time of ovulation(ultrasound examinations at 4-h intervals) was investigated. In estrous periods, the rate of sniffing, chin resting, mounting and standing heat was 81%, 78%, 78% and 56%, respectively in cows. In heifers, the rate of sniffing, chin resting, mounting and standing heat was 61%, 68%, 82% and 76%, respectively. Ovulation in cows and heifers occurred $25.58{\pm}7.94\;and\;25.55{\pm}5.72h$ after onset of estrus, and $13.42{\pm}7.14\;and\;7.48{\pm}7.41h$ after end of estrus, respectively. Interval between onset of estrus and ovulation time was significantly (p<0.05) shorter for standing heat ($17.33{\pm}5.83\;h$) than for mounting, sniffing and chin resting ($23.58{\pm}5.12\;h,\;24.25{\pm}6.09\;h,\;23.42{\pm}6.04\;h$) in cows but not significantly different in heifers. Interval between end of standing heat and ovulation time was significantly (p<0.05) shorter for heifer($6.38{\pm}4.80$) than for cows($13.05{\pm}4.53$). Our results show that characteristics of estrous behavior and ovulation in dairy heifers are different to that of cows.

  • Domestic facility agriculture grows rapidly, such as modernization and large-scale. And the production scale increases significantly compared to the area, accounting for about 60% of the total agricultural production. Greenhouses require energy input to create an appropriate environment for stable mass production throughout the year, but the energy load per unit area is large because of low insulation properties. Through the rooftop greenhouse, one of the types of urban agriculture, energy that is not discarded or utilized in the building can be used in the rooftop greenhouse. And the cooling and heating load of the building can be reduced through optimal greenhouse operation. Dynamic energy analysis for various environmental conditions should be preceded for efficient operation of rooftop greenhouses, and about 40% of the solar energy introduced in the greenhouse is energy exchange for crops, so it should be considered essential. A major analysis is needed for each sensible heat and latent heat load by leaf surface temperature and evapotranspiration, dominant in energy flow. Therefore, an experiment was conducted in a rooftop greenhouse located at the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials to analyze the energy exchange according to the growth stage of crops. A micro-meteorological and nutrient solution environment and growth survey were conducted around the crops. Finally, a regression model of leaf temperature and evapotranspiration according to the growth stage of leafy vegetables was developed, and using this, the dynamic energy model of the rooftop greenhouse considering heat transfer between crops and the surrounding air can be analyzed.

  • A laboratory scale experiment on phenol conversion properties by pulsed corona discharge process was carried out. Effects of operating parameters such as applied voltage, input oxygen, and electrode geometry on phenol conversion and solution properties were investigated. Electrical discharges generated in liquid phase increased the liquid temperature by heat transfer from current flow, decreased the pH value by producing various organic acids from phenol degradation, and increased conductivity by generating charge carriers and organic acids. The oxygen supply enhanced the phenol conversion through the ozone generation dissolution and the production of OH radicals. Series type electrode configuration induced more ozone production than reference type configuration because it produced gas phase discharges as well as liquid phase discharges. Therefore, the higher phenol conversion and TOC(total organic carbon) removal efficiency were obtained in series type configuration.

  • To use effectively the solar energy in greenhouse heating, a high performance solar collector should be developed. And then the size of the solar collector and thermal storage tank should be determined through the calculation of heating load. The solar collector must be set in the optimum tilt angle and direction to take daily solar radiation maximally, and the flow rate of heat transfer fluid through the solar collector should be kept in the optimum range. In this research, the performance tests of a capillary tube solar collector were performed to determine the optimum water flow rate and the results summarized as follows. 1. The regressive equations for efficiency estimations of the capillary tube solar collector in the open loop were modeled in the water flow rate of 700-l,000 $\ell$/hr. 2. The optimum water flow rate of the solar collector was estimated by the second order polynomial regression and the maximum efficiency was 80% at the water flow rate of 850 $\ell$/hr. 3. The solar thermal storage system consisted of a capillary tube solar collector and a water storage tank was tested at the water flow rate of 850 $\ell$/hr in the closed loop, and obtained the solar thermal storage efficiency of 55.2%. 4. As the capillary tube solar collector engaged in this experiment was made of non-corrosive polyolefin tubes, its weight was as light as 1/30 of the flat plate solar collector made of copper tubes. Therefore it was considered to be suitable for the greenhouse heating system.

  • Interest in three-dimensional (3D) printing processes has grown significantly, and several types have been developed. These 3D printing processes are classified as Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Stereo-Lithography Apparatus (SLA), and Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). SLS can be applied to many materials, but because it uses a laser-based material removal process, it is expensive. SLA enables fast and precise manufacturing, but available materials are limited. FDM printing's benefits are its reasonable price and easy accessibility. However, metal printing using FDM can involve technical problems, such as suitable component supply or the thermal expansion of the heating part. Thus, FDM printing primarily uses materials with low melting points, such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or polylactic acid (PLA) resin. In this study, an FDM process for enabling metal printing is suggested. Particularly, the nozzle and heatsink for this process are focused for stable printing. To design the nozzle and heatsink, multi-physical phenomena, including thermal expansion and heat transfer, had to be considered. Therefore, COMSOL Multiphysics, an FEM analysis program, was used to analyze the maximum temperature, thermal expansion, and principal stress. Finally, its performance was confirmed through an experiment.
