The purpose of this study is to present the simulation results and an overview of the performance assessment of the Ground-Source Heat Pump(GSHP) system. The calculation was performed for two design factors. the spacing between boreholes and the depth of the vertical ground heat exchangers. And the simulation was carried out using the thermal simulation code TRNSYS with new model o( water to water heat pump developed by this study. As a result, it was anticipated that the yearly mean COPs of heat pump for heating and cooling are about 3.7 and 5.8 respectively and the heat pump can supply 100% of heating and cooling load all the year around.
The heating and cooling air conditioning field has been increasing the problems of energy consumption and global warming in the world. A geothermal heat pump has been known as one of the highest efficient heating and cooling system. In this study, the analysis about the test standards of the geothermal heat pump of the Republic of Korea was executed. From the research, the following results were given. It is needed to address the domestic test standard for direct heat exchange geothermal heat pump. Water to air multi geothermal heat pump test standard was only developed in Korea. The test standard to calculate a seasonal energy efficiency ratio for cooling period and heat seasonal performance factor for heating period should be newly developed to estimate actual annual energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission.
Ground-coupled heat pump(GCHP) systems have been shown to be an environmentally-friendly, efficient alternative to traditional cooling and heating systems in both residential and commercial applications. Although some work related to performance evaluation of GCHP systems for commercial buildings has been done, relatively little has been reported on the residential applications. The aim of this study is to evaluate the cooling and heating performances of a vertical GCHP system applied to an artificial detached house($117\;m^2$) in Seoul. For this purpose, a typical design procedure was involved with a combination of design parameters such as building loads, heat pump capacity, borehole diameter, and ground thermal properties, etc. The cooling and heating performance simulation of the system was conducted with different prediction times of 8760 hours and 240 months. The performance characteristics including seasonal system COP, average annual power consumption, and temperature variations related to ground heat exchanger were calculated and compared.
Geothermal heat pump systems use the earth as a heat source in heating mode and a heat sink in cooling mode. These systems can be used for heating or cooling systems in farm facilities such as greenhouses for protected horticulture, cattle sheds, mushroom house, etc. A horizontal type means that a geothermal heat exchanger is laid in the trench buried in 1.2 to 1.8 m depth. Because a horizontal type has advantages of low installation, operation and maintenance costs compared to a vertical type, it is easy to be adopted to agriculture. In this study, to heat and cool farm facilities and obtain basic data for practical application of horizontal geothermal heat pump systems in agriculture, a horizontal geothermal heat pump system of 10 RT scale was installed in greenhouse. Heating performance of this system was estimated. The horizontal geothermal heat pump used in this study had heating COP of 4.57 at soil temperature of 14$^{\circ}C$ for depth of 1.75m and heating COP of 3.75 at soil temperature of 7$^{\circ}C$ for the same depth. The stratification of water temperature in heat tank appeared during the whole heat rejection period.

In this study, the ground source heat pump was installed at a research center in Jeju Island to verify the performance of the system and to give an information for a economic feasibility. The performance test was conducted until the heat storage tank temperature reached at $5^{\circ}C$ from $50^{\circ}C$ in the cooling operation, and until the storage temperature goes up to $50^{\circ}C$ from $10^{\circ}C$ in the heating mode. As results, the system performance shows that $2.2{\sim}3.5$ for the cooling operation and $2.5{\sim}3.5$ for heating operation. It is found that the underground is good heat source for the heat pump with $3{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ variation range. The ground source heat pump could be connected one of air conditioning system without any problem in system performance. Based on the economic analysis, the initial cost for the ground source heat pump will be compensated after 4 years operation. If the system runs 20 years, approximately 300 million Won will be saved when the air conditioning system adapt the ground source heat pump based on Life Cycle Cost analysis.
A heat pump has been considered as a thermal management unit for electric vehicles, including the heating and cooling of the cabin. However, the heat pump shows performance degradation at low outdoor temperatures or high compressor speeds. In this study, a R-134a heat pump for an electric vehicle was designed to improve system efficiency, by applying vapor injection with an internal heat exchanger. The heating performance characteristics of the vapor injection heat pump were analyzed at various compressor speeds and outdoor temperatures. The vapor injection heat pump showed 13.3% COP improvement over the non-injection heat pump, when the heating capacity was fixed at 5.2 kW. In addition, the heating capacity of the vapor injection system increased by 9.6%, as compared to the non-injection system.
Along with socioeconomic development and improving standard of living, the heat demand for heating and cooling in residential and commercial sectors is expected to expand rapidly, reaching over 43 million TOE by 2010 in Korea(about 80% increase compared with that in 1995). Since most of this heat demand is loop temperature below $60^{\circ}C$, the utilization of 'unused energy' is surely one of very effective measures to both environmental preservation and energy conservation. 'Unused energy' in this paper is implicated as 'temperature differential energy' available from treated sewage water, useful and abundant heat source for heat pump(cooler in summer and warmer in winter than outside air). An analysis was carried out to estimate the energy potential of treated sewage water for heat pump heat source. Some analysis were taken to study the characteristics of a heat pump system using the treated sewage water as heat source.
Energy foundations and other thermo-active ground structure, energy wells, energy-slab, and pavement heating and cooling represent an innovative technology that contributes to environmental protection and provides substantial long-term cost savings and minimized maintenance. This paper focuses on earth-contact concrete elements that are already required for structural reasons, but which simultaneously work as heat exchangers. Pipes, energy slabs, filled with a heat carrier fluid are installed under conventional structural elements, forming the primary circuit of a geothermal energy system. The natural ground temperature is used as a heat source in winter and a heat sink in summer. The geothermal heat pump system with energy-slab represented very high heating and cooling performance due to the stability of EWT from energy slab. However, the performance of it seemed to be affected by the atmospheric air temperature.
This experimental study presents the results of the cooling performance test of a $CO_2$ heat pump system for fuel cell vehicles. The experimental facility provides the cool ing and heating environment for cabin and heat releasing component. The test loop is designed to target the cooling capacity of 5kW and its coefficient of performance (COP) of 2.2. The cooling performance of the heat pump system is strongly dependent on the refrigerant charge and the degree of superheat. We carried out basic experiments to obtain optimum refrigerant charge and the degree of superheat level at the internal heat exchanger outlet. The heat pump system for fuel cell vehicles is different from that of engine-driven vehicles, where the former has an electricity-driven compressor and the latter has the belt-driven (engine-driven) compressor. In the fuel cell vehicle, the compressor speed is an independent operating parameter and it is controlled to meet the cooling/heating loads. Experiments were carried out at cooling mode with respect to the compressor speed and the incoming outdoor air speed. The results obtained in this study can provide the fundamental cool ing performance data using the $CO_2$ heat pump system for fuel cell vehicles.
Recently, the use of renewable energy has been attracted due to the interest in energy-saving and the reduction of CO2 emission. In order to reduce the energy consumption of the cooling and the heating in the field of the architectural engineering, heat pump systems using renewable energy have been developed and used in various applications. In many researches, integrated heat pump systems are suggested which use solar and geothermal heat as the heat source for cooling and heating. However, it is still difficult to predict the performance of the systems, because the characteristic of heat exchange in each system is complicated and various. In this system, the performance prediction simulation of the heat pump was developed using a dynamic simulation model. This paper describes the summary of the suggested systems and the result of the simulation. The average temperature of the heat source, heating loads and COP were calculated with the cases of different local conditions, different system composition and different operation time by TRNSYS 17.
