In this paper we propose a method to analyze user's motion as a game command, and implement a sports serious game applied the motion analysis method as a command interpreter. Recently, various contents platforms appear in industrial market, the computer game contents plays an important role in these emerging platforms as a killer contents. The computer game has enough values as an independent major cultural product, moreover it has the potential to be applied in various other fields such as education, healthcare, training, and so on. It could motivate users to do something continuously, and it could also support an immersive environment in a certain special game contents such as VR game. The Serious game 'ChoDeungGangHo', implemented in this paper, is the sensory healthcare serious game based on 3D run game and fitness game. It is designed for user to train the various exercise element by just playing the game, and it also supports the user management system and the linkage of social media. We proposes the sensory serious game 'ChoDeungGangHo' as a model of commercial serious game.
In order to predict satisfaction and performance of sensible healthcare game using motion recognition sensor, this study analyzed the effects of flow, presence and social cognitive factor and then, it attempted to verify structural relationships thereof. Self-efficacy, being a social cognitive factor, was found to affect the level of functional satisfaction of health game but it showed no direct effect to intention of using game. Flow experience was also observed to be a meaningful predictor for the level of functional and entertainment satisfaction in the direction hypothesized. It is also shown that presence exerts a direct effect on functional satisfaction. Finally, it is discovered that functional satisfaction has meaningful influence on entertainment satisfaction as well as future intention to use. The results verifies that even in sensible healthcare game, user experience and social cognitive factor have significant effects on satisfaction and performance of a serious game.
Serious games allow learners to experience situations that are impossible in the real world for various purposes. To date the major applications of serious games include military, government, education, corporate and healthcare applications. This paper aims to provide an overview of the applications of serious games for various health-related purposes, particularly for Health and Medicine education, health risk prevention, behavioral intervention, and disease self-management. These games identified numerous papers reporting empirical evidence about the impacts and outcomes. There is potential promise for serious games to improve health outcomes. We discuss implications of using serious games for health-related purposes and future direction for research in this area.
The digital era opens with the changing times and many parts of life has become convenient. With this convenience of living, the obesity rate of people is gradually increasing, and the necessity of exercise is emerging. However, many studies have shown that many people do not exercise or stop exercising in three to six months. In this paper, we have designed and developed a "Walking Pet" prototype, a healthcare-inspired AR game, based on the theoretical background of exercise and the precedent studies to verify these facts. The developed "Walking Pet" provides exercise data to motivate the person to exercise and apply the pet system to eventually enjoy the exercise. In order to verify the effectiveness of the "Walking Pet" prototype developed in this paper, we surveyed 100 males and females in need of health care applications and surveyed the satisfaction of pure functional aspects.
In rapid aging society, the disease prevention and management for healthy life of the elderly is very important. Regular physical activity is known to be a useful intervention for the physical and mental health of the elderly. In this study, we explore the convergence contents using IT technology as the intervention for encouraging the regular physical activity in the elderly. There are u-Healthcare and serious game as the convergence of health care and IT technology, and the serious game which is added special purpose such as education, training, and treatment to the fun-one of the game element- can be suitable to provide a variety of contents that leads to physical activity in the elderly. The contents inducing physical activities are "Puffer(ATARI, USA)", "WiiFit(Nintendo, JAPAN)", "Age Invaders(MXR Lab, SINGAPORE)", "Xbox $360^{\circ}$+kinect(Microsoft, USA)", "Tangible bicycle game(Donsin Univ., KOREA)", and "3D Gateball game(Soongsil Univ., KOREA)", and these contents can help health care of the elderly. By increasing physical activity through the use of these contents, it will be able to promote physical fitness and body function required in daily life, disease prevention, and maintain health in the elderly.

In order to verify the factors affecting the acceptance of Serious Games for Healthcare (SGHs), this study developed a hierarchical model of general and specific benefit and risk factors affecting the intention to use SGHs based on the valence framework. As a result based on 199 samples, it was revealed that perceived customization and perceived schedule flexibility had a positive effect on the perceived benefits, which, in turn, had a positive effect on the intention to use SGHs. However, among the specific risk factors, only privacy risk had a positive effect on perceived risk, but it did not have a effect on SGHs usage intention. The results related to the fact that the survey respondents were potential users of SGHs and the bias that may overestimate the benefits provided by SGHs called optimistic bias. Based on these findings, some implications were presented such as the spread and distribution of SGHs to the ordinary persons, improvement of negative perceptions of games, and the need for data-based services to refine customized services for SGHs.
Recently, the technology and services make progress in IT sector to facilitate the rehabilitation, as well as the exercise that aims to promote the health. To provide the opportunity for new services, various challenges have to be fulfilled, including the blurring boundaries among industries, spread of new technologies, and various demands. Seizing on this opportunity, the fusion and convergence have been accelerated. The trends towards the fusion and convergence are inherent in content industry and spreading to other sectors, which makes the cultural desire of customers fulfilled in a more diverse manner. In particular, the research has been conducted, using the game, in the new technology cultural contents which have shown noticeable fusion and convergence between IT and exercise rehabilitation areas. Such games can be classified into the motion-based game, serious game, and virtual reality game. Those game contents are forming the market fast based on the contents for education, sports, exercise rehabilitation, healthcare, etc., and have very great potential for growth. This study is intended to analyze the fusion and convergence system of exercise rehabilitation through those games and present a direction for future development.
The U-Healthcare era has evolved with the development of the Internet of things (IoT) in the early stages of being connected as a society. Already, many changes such as increased well-being and the extension of human life are becoming evident across cultures. Korea entered the growing group of aging societies in 2017, and its silver industry is expected to grow rapidly by adopting the IoT of a super-connected society. In particular, the senior shift phenomenon has resulted in increased interest in the promotion of the health and well-being of the emergent silver generation which, unlike the existing silver generation, is highly active and wields great economic power. This study conducted in-depth interviews to investigate the characteristics of the new silver generation, and to develop the design for a wearable serious game that intends to boost the interest of the elderly in exercise and fitness activities according to their personalized physical training regimes as prescribed by the U-Hospital service. The usage scenario of this wearable serious game for the 'U-silver generation' is derived from social necessity. Medical professionals can utilize this technology to conduct health examinations and to monitor the rehabilitation of senior patients. The elderly can also use this tool to request checkups or to interface with their healthcare providers. The wearable serious game is further aimed at mitigating concerns about the deterioration of the physical functions of the silver generation by applying personalized exercise prescriptions. The present investigation revealed that it is necessary to merge the on / off line community activities to meet the silver generation's daily needs for connection and friendship. Further, the sustainability of the serious game must be enhanced through the inculcation of a sense of accomplishment as a player rises through the levels of the game. The proposed wearable serious game is designed specifically for the silver generation that is inexperienced in using digital devices: simple game rules are applied to a familiar interface grounded on the gourmet travels preferred by the target players to increase usability.
This study was aimed at investigating the activities of a badminton club and designing smart wear to prevent sports injuries during badminton club activities. Everyone is familiar with sports in an aging society and clubs are gradually developing. Popular badminton club activities lead to frequent sports injuries, especially ankle injuries, which are a serious problem that hampers members' participation in sports. Therefore, this study aims to propose a prototype design for smart wear to prevent sports injuries, including ankle injuries. First, we identified the characteristics and considerations of members of badminton clubs, and the components of smart wear to prevent sports injuries. Second, members of the badminton clubs and an elite badminton player participated in a survey on the issues and requirements associated with wearing smart wear. Third, usage scenarios for smart wear were created based on literature reviews and the user assessment lists. Fourth, a prototype of the smart wear to prevent sports injuries including ankle injuries was created based on the scenarios. With the proposed smart wear, members of badminton clubs who may require assistance with sports injuries will be able to monitor said injuries, as well as their health condition, as avatars in visual games through a smart terminal. The visual game system will provide easier access to information about sports injuries and health. This smart sportswear will allow members of badminton clubs to prevent sports injuries and review their performance. This study can be utilized to design smart wear to prevent sports injuries and monitor sporting activities or bio-signals.
