A Study on Development of Evaluation Scale for Health-Grade of Families (가정건강성 평가도구 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study was designed to develop the evaluation scale for health-grade of families. For this goal the related references and the programs of Healthy-Families-Center were analyzed. In the context with the goals and objects of programs in Healthy-Families-Center the index for the evaluation the health-grade of families was deducted. And the concrete items of health-grade of families in 3 parts(R: relation, M: management, E: environment) was discussed. In order to verify the validity and significance of the scale the survey for 200 samples was performed and the data from 191 samples was statistically analyzed. We suggested the application methods of this evaluation scale for health-grade of families. So the 8 types of families were came out: RME, RMe, RmE, rME, Rme, rMe, rmE, rme. Using this type of families the consulting and counselling for the enhancement of health-grade can be developed. We reached the conclusion that this evaluation scale has to be continuously developed and eleborated because the health-grade of families is one of the most important index for the effect of programs of Healthy Families Center.

Factors that Affect Suicidal Ideation among Korean Adolescents by Family Type (가족형태에 따른 청소년의 자살생각에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: This study examined the factors that affect suicidal ideation among Korean adolescents according to their family type. Methods: The data of the 2017 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey was used in this study. Out of 62,276, a total of 60,077 adolescents (51,367 adolescents from two-parent families and 8,710 adolescents from single-parent families) were included in the analysis. Results: This study demonstrated that the level of suicidal ideation of the adolescents in single-parent families was significantly higher than that of the adolescents in two-parent families. The factors that affect suicidal ideation among the two-parent family adolescents were gender, grade, economic status, academic performance, smoking, drinking, physical activity, subjective health status, subjective body image, subjective happiness, stress, and depression. The factors that affect suicidal ideation among the single-parent family adolescents included gender, grade, smoking, subjective health status, subjective happiness, stress and depression. Conclusion: Single-parent family adolescents are likely to have a higher level of suicidal ideation along with higher levels of depression and stress and lower levels of subjective health and happiness, compared to single-parent family adolescents. For this higher-risk group of suicidal ideation, more thoughtful attentions and proactive policies are needed to manage their mental health and stress in school and family situations.

A Structural Model on the Mental Health in Children from Dysfunctional Families (결손가정 아동의 정신건강 구조모형)

  • Purpose: This study was on the structural analysis of the covariant amount in order to evaluate the suitability of the structural models which can explain and predict the mental health of children on the basis of Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory. Methods: A questionnaire was used to survey 269 children from dysfunctional families out of 5th and 6th grade students from 30 elementary schools in one city and 6 counties, which was analyzed by using PASW Statistics 18.0 and LISREL 8.7 programs. Results: The variable which had influence on the self-esteem was the social support. The variable which had influence on the positive reaction under stress was the stress. The variables which had influence on the negative reaction under stress were stress, and self esteem. The variables which had influence on the mental health were the self-esteem and the negative reaction under stress. The main variables to influence the mental health of children from dysfunctional families turned out to be the self-esteem and the negative reaction under stress to the mental health. Conclusion: Evaluating the suitability of the models, I presented the bases on the practical nursing business. They showed the right directions to the mental health care of children from dysfunctional families.

Impact of the Achievement Motivation of Middle School Teenagers from Multicultural Families on their Adaptation to School Learning Activities: The Mediating Effect of Career Attitude (다문화가정 중3 청소년의 성취동기가 학교학습활동적응에 미치는 영향: 진로태도 매개효과)

  • This study aimed to determine whether the achievement motivation of adolescents from multicultural families in their third year of middle school influenced their adaptation to school learning activities. It also explored the mediating effect of career attitude on achievement motivation and adaptation to school learning activities. An analysis was performed on data obtained from students in the third grade of middle school who participated in the sixth wave of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS). The main findings were as follows. Firstly, achievement motivation exhibited a positive correlation with both career attitude and adaptation to school learning activities. Secondly, the achievement motivation of adolescents from multicultural families and their career attitude both exerted a positive effect on their adaptation to school learning activities. Thirdly, the mediating effect of career attitude on the relationship between adaptation to school learning activities and achievement motivation of adolescents from multicultural families was verified.

The Relationship between Obesity and Oral Diseases of Students at Just an Elementary School in Chungnam (충남 일개 초등학교 학생들의 비만도와 구강질환과의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between characteristics of obesity and oral diseases by sex and grade. To achieve this, a survey was carried out on 830 students at just an elementary school in Chungnam area. The results of this study are as follows. First, the relationship between dental caries and malocclusion prevalence according to obesity by sex and grade showed that there was no difference between dental caries and malocclusion prevalence by sex, and dental caries prevalence by grade. Second, the difference in the level of dental health according to obesity showed that overweight students had more both caries teeth and loss teeth than normal students. Third, the relationship between obesity and the level of dental health showed that overweight students had many caries teeth and loss teeth. In particular, obesity had higher relationship with caries teeth than loss teeth. As the childhood is the period of time when the range of socialization is extended to schools from families, schools are important life zones for children. Consequently, the continuous and intensive instruction of health problems in schools needs to be comprehensively approached in terms of education.

Influences of Parental Attachment of Elementary School Students' Perception on Anger and Anger Expressions of Children in Multi-cultural Families (다문화가정 초등학생의 부모에 대한 애착관계가 분노와 분노표현에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The study has a purpose of contributing to understanding children of multi-cultural families and healthy development of children by examining influences of parental attachment perceived by the children on their anger trait and anger expressions. Methods: The data were collected from 113 students in grade 4~6, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, pearson correlation coefficient by the SPSS/PC 18.0 program. Results: The result showed the stable attachment with parents significantly influences children's anger and expression(anger out/control). And mother's attachment was significantly stronger than father's attachment, especially mutual trust and communication. Father's attachment had significantly negative influences state-trait anger and anger out/in, and mother's attachment had significantly negative influences state-trait anger and anger out. Actually father's attachment had stronger influences children's anger and anger expression. Conclusions: There was relationship between father's attachment and anger trait/ expression by children of multi-cultural families. For the effective management of multi-cultural children's anger, programs focusing on improving father-child relationships need to be established.

  • Purpose: This study was carried out to investigate the knowledge of obesity and exercise , attitude to dietary habits and exercise, and physical activities and exercise in elementary school children to provide basic data for obese programs. Methods: The subjects were 850 elementary school children of grade 3-6 in C City and data were collected with a questionnaire. Results: Higher grade, female and overweight children recorded a higher knowledge score than lower grade, male and normal weight children. As for attitude to dietary habit, lower grade and female children had more positive attitude than higher grade and male children. Overweight children were more aware of the seriousness of exercise than normal weight children. In physical activity, lower grade and male children were higher than higher grade and female children. The more interested the children's family were in exercise, the higher score of physical activity they showed. Conclusion: In planning education for preventing obesity, it should give consideration to lower glade and male children. In addition, education for changing dietary habit attitude must be extended to higher grade and male children as well. It is effective to develop and apply physical activity improvement programs in the cooperation and involvement of their families.

Relationships Between Social Supports and Depression Symptoms Among High School Students in an Urban Area (도시지역 고등학생들의 사회적 지지와 우울과의 관련성)

  • This study was performed to determine the relationships between social supports and depression symptoms among high school students in urban areas. The self-administered questionnaires were given to 514 students located in Daejeon city during the period from April 1st to May 31th, 2010. As a results, the level of depression symptoms was significantly higher in proportion to lower level of social support of families and friends. And the level of depression symptoms was positively correlated with level of social support of families and friends. In multiple regression analysis, the factors of influence with the level of depression symptoms was sex, school grade, academic achievement, friendship with the school fellow, satisfaction of school life and satisfaction of family life. Especially explanatory powers to the level of depression symptoms increased by social support of families and friends. As a conclusion, the level of depression symptoms among high school students implies closely related with level of social support of families and friends.

Moderating effect of social relationship on academic stress and psychological health (청소년의 학업스트레스와 정신건강의 관계에서 사회적 관계의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine moderating effect of social relationship on the relationship between academic stress and psychological health among of adolescents. This data used in this study used data was derived from the wave 2-4(2004-2006) of Korean Youth Panel Study (KYPS). The results show that social relationship(parent-child relationship and peer relationship) had a moderating effect on academic stress and psychological health of adolescents. In short, it was verified that in the case of good social relationship, academic stress could actually buffer the effect of psychological health. However, it terms of parent-child relationship, it was not confirmed to have a moderating effect on academic stress and psychological health in the 11th grade. The results from above suggest that schools and related facilities adolescent should consider the program to reinforce social relationship and the timing of the intervention.

A Study on the Mothers Satisfaction about Their Childrens Household Work Performance (자녀의 가사노동 수행에 대한 어머니의 만족에 관한 연구)

  • This study purposed to determine the relative impact of a number of family and household work variables on childrens household work performance and their mothers satisfactions on that. A questionnaire was administered to 239 mothers and their children respectively living in Daejeon. Data were analysed using multiple regression analysis. Results were as follows: (1) A childs household work was influenced by mothers employment status and health status, a childs sex, her expectation on the childs household work performance, and the grade. (2) Mothers satisfaction on the childs household work was most influenced by the length of household work time and their spontaneity.
