Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive study was to identify predictors on health promoting behaviors of university students. Methods: The participants were 310 students by convenience sampling in G city. The data were collected through a questionnaire given to the students between September 10 to November 6, 2006. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean score for the level of health promoting behaviors and optimism was 2.60(${\pm} .31$) and 2.70(${\pm} .55$) respectively. The most frequently used coping skill was the pursuit of social support. There were positive correlations between health promoting behaviors and optimism, between health promoting behaviors and active coping skill, and between health promoting behaviors and passive coping skill. In stepwise multiple regression analysis, the most powerful predictor of health promoting behaviors was active coping skill. Conclusion: The results suggest that coping skills with optimism can be considered when developing a health promotion program for university students.

Purpose: this study was to describe patient learning needs and the relationship between health promoting behavior and health concept with women with disabilities. Methods: A descriptive survey design was used and the SPSS 11.0 program was used for data analysis, which included t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients. The women (n=50) were in-patients in a rehabilitation center. Results: The study results indicate that they had high levels of patient learning needs and the most important information for patient learning needs was support and care. Patient learning need was correlated with health promoting behavior. Conclusions: The findings of this study give useful information to construct further studies in educational programs and rehabilitation nursing care and to support a healthcare system for women with disabilities.
Health promoting behaviors of an individual are affected by various variables. Recently, there has been a growing concern over important health problems of the middle aged women. Physiological changes in the middle aged women and their responsibility for family care can result in physical and psychological burden experienced by middle aged women. This study was designed to test Pender's model and thus purpose a model that explains health promoting behaviors among middle-aged women in Korea. The hypothetical model was developed based on the Pender's health promoting model and the findings from past studies on women's health. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from 863 women living in Seoul, between 20th, April and 15th, July 1995. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The Linear Structural Relationship(LISREL) modeling process was used to find the best fit model which assumes causal relationships among variables. The results are as follows : 1. The Overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was good expect chi-square value(GFI=.96, AGFI=.91, RMR=.04). 2. Paths of the model were modified by considering both its theoretical implication and statistical significance of the parameter estimates. Compared to the hypothetical model, the revised model has become parsimonious and had a better fit to the data expect chi-square value(GFI=.95, AFGI= .92. RMR=.04). 3. Some of modifying factors, especially age, occupation, educational levels and body mass index (BMI) are revealed significant effects on health promoting behaviors. 4. Some of cognitive-perceptual factors, especially internal health locus of control, self-efficacy and perceptive health status are revealed significant effects on health promoting behaviors. 5. All predictive variables of health promoting behaviors, especially age, occupation, educational levels, body mass index(BMI), internal health locus of control, self-efficacy & perceptive health status are explained 20.0% of the total variance in the model.
Purpose - This study aims to clarify the impact of smart health gadgets (specfically, smart watches/sports wristbands) on promoting healthy behavior. It also aims to understand the use and characteristics of the devices, to explore the relationship between device factors and factors that affect healthy behavior, and to discuss the development of health promotion. Research, design, data, and methodology - Smart device users were investigated through a random sampling method of 185 respondents, including all ages and all levels of occupation, education, and income. The SmartPLS 3.0 software enabled the path analysis and the descriptive statistical analysis; the theoretical model was evaluated for the parameter analysis. Results - The size and path of each factor impacting health promoting behavior were ascertained. The objective factors that attract users to the smart wristband were investigated as well as the methods by which the device and the HPM are bound to each other and the correlation factors to seek out the closest relationship. Conclusions - According to the analysis, the real-time smart watch/sports wristband exerts a positive impact on one's health promoting behavior. Health awareness is increasingly promoted in the process of using the device, and the impact of health awareness and self-efficacy effects on healthy behavior is considerable.
The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between psychosocial well-bing and health promoting lifestyle practices of university students in Korea. The subjects were 282 students of one university in Chung-ju. The data were analyzed by the SAS program using mean, frequency, t-test, ANOVA and pearson correlation coefficient. The major results were as follows: 1. The average score for psychosocial well-being and health promoting lifestyle practices were low at 55.97, 103.5. In the subcategories of health promoting lifestyle practices, the highest degree of performance was interpersonal support(2.77), and the lowest degree was health responsibility(1.49). 2. There weren't statistically significant differences for the Psychosocial well-being according to sociodemographic variables. The performance of health promoting lifestyle practices was significant different according to gender and school year. 3. The Psychosocial well-being was negatively correlated with health promoting lifestyle practices. Also it was negatively correlated with subscale of health promoting lifestyle practices except health responsibility. So, significant correlation between psychoscial well-bing and self-actualization, exercise, nutrition, interpersonal support, stress management was found. Based upon this results, health promoting behavior will be clues for developing a interventional programs and strategies for the health promoting lifestyle practices in university students
The purpose of this study is to inquire into the degree of health promotion activity of boys' high school students, and to find out the relationship between self-efficiency and health promotion behavior in order to offer basic data for developing an educational method or program for health promotion. The content validity of the instrument was authenticated by a professor of the science of nursing, and reliability is proved to be 'cronbach' a 'after mortifying content through a pre-test on 37 students. The collected 452 persons' data is analyzed in terms of average, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson' s Correlation Coefficient. and Multiple Stepwise Regression by 'SAS 6.12'. The analyzed data is the following; 1. The higher self-efficiency, among cognitive-perceptual factors, has a beneficial effect on health promotion behavior(r=.0687, p=.0001). 2. The acting degree of health promoting behavior appeares to be middled at 3.39 points out of 6. 3. The degree of self-efficiency appears at 6.04 points out of 10. 4. The difference in health promoting behavior according to a subject's general factors is the following health concern of parents (p=0.01), higher health concern of parents, makes health promoting behavior higher. 5. The difference of self-efficiency according to subject's general factors is affected by the health concerns of parents(p=0.0044) and between groups(p=0.0001).
This study has been done for the purpose of testing the effects of education for women's health on the performance of health promoting behavior and self esteem of college women. The study was designed as simulated control group pretest-posttest design, the experimental group was composed 182 college women and the control group was composed 151 college women at D University in Seoul. The instruments used for this study were Health Promoting Behavior Scale developed by Walker et al(1987)were modified by Shin(1997) and Self Esteem Scale developed by Rosenberg(1965). The data were analyzed by chi-square test, t-test and ANCOVA using $SPSSIPC^+$ program. The results were as follows: 1. The result of the homogeneity test in terms of the demographic characteristics of two group showed that there were significant difference in major discipline($x^2=155.854$, p=.000), religion($x^2=6.325$, p=.011), and disease experience($x^2=3.949$, p=.046). 2. Hypotheses 1 that the college women who get women's health education will have a higher score of health promoting behavior than the college women who do not get women's health education was supported. The score of health promoting behavior between two group showed statistically difference(t=7.25, p= .000). Mer control of covariates(major discipline, religion, and disease experience), the score of health promoting behavior between two group showed statistically difference(F=31.817, p= .000). 3. Hypotheses 2 that the college women who get women's health education will have a higher score of self esteem than the college women who do not get women's health education was supported. The score of self esteem between two group showed statistically difference(t=4.91, p= .000). After control of covariates(major discipline, religion, disease experience), the score of self esteem between two group showed statistically difference(F=12.688, p= .000). The following suggestions are made based on the above results : 1) Replication of the research is needed to confirm effects of health education including the college man and various demographic differences. 2) More effective health education programs appropriate to subject need to be developed. 3) Nursing college or departments of nursing should make an effort to develop and carry out various health education program for health for all.
Purpose: The aims of this study were to identify health literacy and health promoting behaviors in adolescents and to examine the relationship between these variables. Methods: A descriptive correlational study design was used with self-administrated questionnaires. A total of 212 third-year middle school students in G province were conveniently sampled. Korea health literacy assessment tool-2, Korean functional health literacy test, and the health promoting lifestyle profile were used. Data analyses were performed using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Linguistic health literacy and functional health literacy scores were $37.18{\pm}17.74$ and $11.86{\pm}2.77$, respectively. Health promoting behaviors was $2.95{\pm}0.34$. The relationships between linguistic health literacy and health promoting behaviors (r=.405, p<.001) and between functional health literacy and health promoting behaviors (r=.168, p<.001) showed statistically significant positive correlations. Linguistic health literacy was also positively related with functional health literacy (r=.196, p<.001) with statistical significance. Conclusion: The degree of health literacy of middle school students was somewhat low, but was significantly correlated with health promoting behaviors. To improve health promoting behaviors, there needs to be an increase in health literacy.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of verbal abuse experiences, emotional labor, and health-promoting behaviors of nurses in small and medium hospitals and to identify the relationship between them. Participants were 138 nurses from 2 small-medium sized hospitals. Collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients with the SPSS 20.0 for Windows Program. As a result of the study, 82.7% of them experienced verbal abuse, and there were differences in the degree of health- promoting behavior according to gender (p=.032) and department (p=.009). Besides, it was found that emotional labor was related to health-promoting behavior (p=.039), and spiritual growth (p=<.01), and stress management (p=.028) as sub-factors. Accordingly, this study will be used as basic data for developing strategies and customized programs to reduce emotional labor, increase health-promoting activities, and contribute to the stable securing of nursing personnel.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the difference of the health promoting behaviors between average Internet users and excessive Internet users. Method: Data were collected from a convenient sample of 465 middle school students from June 7th to 17th, 2002, based on a self reported questionnaire. The instruments included were the Health Promotion Behaviors reconstructed by the author based on the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (Walker, Sechrist & Pender, 1987) and Internet addiction test translated by Center for Internet Addiction Prevention and Counseling based on Young's test. Data were analyzed with N, %, x2 test, t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Result : 1. There were no significant differences in general characteristics between average Internet users and excessive Internet users. 2. There were significant differences between two groups in diet behavior(p=.030), even though there were no differences in general health promoting behaviors(p=.109). 3. There were significant negative correlations between Internet use and diet behavior (r=-.193, p=.000). Therefore, average Internet users had more desirable diet behavior than excessive Internet users. Conclusion: Internet addiction prevention program should be conducted as part of a comprehensive school health promotion program. In addition, the results of this study should be considered in developing the school health education curriculum to rear students' responsibility on their health behaviors.
