A Novel Design of High Power Amplifier Employing Photonic Band Gap in Millimeter Wave Band

  • In this paper, we have designed and fabricated the high power amplifier employing PBG(Photonic Band-Gap Structure) to improve the linearity of the amplifier in the millimeter wave band. The fabricated amplifier using MMIC(TGA1073G) has operated about 24 GHz band and the PBG has resulted in 35 dB suppression about 49 GHz where the second harmonic occurs due to the amplifier. As a result, the output power has been 24.43 dBm and 13.2 dBc of the IMD has been improved. Also, the PAE is obtained to 14.96 % of the amplifier employing the PBG structure in Ka band.

  • In this paper, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is adopted to design a modified ring-slot type patch rectenna with a resonance frequency of 2.45GHz. In order to accomplish minimization of dimensions and circular polarization (CP) and harmonic suppression, axial direction slits and side-cuts are added to the patch of the ring. The PSO manipulated this kind of multi-dimensional problem very well, and as a result, the designed rectenna shows a desirable performance of return loss of 21.36dB and axial ratio of 2.92dB at the frequency of 2.45GHz with compact sizing.

  • While driving, the low frequency interior noise below 200Hz causes the main component that irritates the auditory acoustic sense. But these passive control methods bring out increment in cost and weight of the vehicle and result in low efficiency. Recently, various ANC(Active Noise Control) methos to suppress the low frequency noise began to launch into application. In this study, we implemented the active noise control system for passenger vehicle to cancel the engine booming noise using DSP-based control unit, 4 micorphones, and 2 speakers. We used MEFX-LMS (Multiple Error Filtered X-Least Mean Square) algorithm since it can be easily implemented in real time. Also, MEFX-RLS algorithm was taken to enhance the suppression of the harmonic components of the engine booming noise inspite of its computational complexity. The performance of two adaptive algorithms were analyzed with experimental resutls.

  • Corrosion is never avoided in the use of materials with various environments. The underwater hull is normally protected against rusting by several coatings of anti-corrosive paint. The purpose of ICCP(Impressed Current Cathodic protection) system is to eliminate the rusting or corrosion, which occurs on metal immersed in seawater. The anode of ICCP system is controlled by an external DC source with converter. The function of anode is to conduct the protective current into seawater. The proposed algorithm includes the harmonic suppression control strategy and the optimum protection strategy and has tried to test the requirement current density for protection, the influence of voltage, the protection potential. This paper was studied the variation of potential and current density with environment factors, time and velocity, and the experimental results will be explained.

  • The proposed differential LC cross-coupled VCO is implemented in InGap/GaAs HBT process for an adaptive Global Positioning system(GPS) application. Two filtering capacitors are used at the base of output buffer amplifiers at the both sides of the core m order to improve phase noise characteristics. The VCO produced a phase noise of -133 dBc/Hz at 3MHz offset frequency from the carrier frequency of 1.489GHz and the second harmonic suppression is significantly suppresed up to -49dBc/Hz in simulation result. The three pairs of BC diodes are integrated m the tank circuit to increase the VCO Tunning range.

  • This paper deals with a control technique of eliminating the transient vibration of a waist axis of an articulated robot. This technique is based on a model-based control in order to establish the damping effect on the mechanical part. The control model is composed of reduced-order electrical and mechanical parts. This model estimates a load speed converted to the motor shaft. The difference between the estimated load speed and the motor speed is calculated dynamically and is added to the velocity command to suppress the transient vibration of a waist axis of the arm. This control model is easily obtained from design or experimental data and can be easily integrated into a DSP. Vibration mitigation of composite laminated satellite solar panels using distributed piezoelectric patches

  • Satellites with flexible lightweight solar panels are sensitive to vibration that is caused by internal actuators such as reaction or momentum wheels which are used to control the attitude of the satellite. Any infinitesimal amount of unbalance in the reaction wheels rotors will impose a harmonic excitation which may interact with the solar panels structure. Therefore, quenching the solar panel's vibration is of a practical importance. In the present work, the panels are modeled as laminated composite beam using first-order shear deformation laminated plate theory which accounts for rotational inertia as well as shear deformation effects. The vibration suppression is achieved by bonding patches of piezoelectric material with suitable dimensions at selected locations along the panel. These patches are actuated by driving control voltages. The governing equations for the system are formulated and the dynamic Green's functions are used to present an exact yet simple solution for the problem. A guide lines is proposed for determining the values of the driving voltage in order to suppress the induced vibration.

  • In this paper, We have designed and fabricated VCO in two way, the common source and common gate circuit for I local oscillator of 60 GHz wireless LAN system. The VCO employed a GaAs MESFET for negative resistance and a varactor diode for frequency tuning. The common gate VCO was measured the phase noise -112 dBc/Hz at the 1 MHz frequency offset. The output power and the second harmonic frequency suppression were 7.81 dBm and -29.3 dBc when tuning voltage was 3V, respectively. The total size of VCO was 28.6$\times$12.14 $\textrm{mm}^2$.

Heat jet approach for finite temperature atomic simulations of two-dimensional square lattice

  • We propose a heat jet approach for a two-dimensional square lattice with nearest neighbouring harmonic interaction. First, we design a two-way matching boundary condition that linearly relates the displacement and velocity at atoms near the boundary, and a suitable input in terms of given incoming wave modes. Then a phonon representation for finite temperature lattice motion is adopted. The proposed approach is simple and compact. Numerical tests validate the effectiveness of the boundary condition in reflection suppression for outgoing waves. It maintains target temperature for the lattice, with expected kinetic energy distribution and heat flux. Moreover, its linear nature facilitates reliable finite temperature atomic simulations with a correct description for non-thermal motions.

  • A new design of cylindrical capacitive sensor(CCS) for the displacement measurement of precision active magnetic bearing(AMB) spindle is presented in this paper. This research is motivated by the problem that existing 4-segment CCS is still sensitive to the $3^{rd}$ harmonic component of the geometric errors of a rotor. The procedure of designing new CCS starts from the modeling and error analysis of CCS. The angular size of CCS is set up as a design parameter, and new 8-segment CCS is introduced to possess an arbitrary angular size. The optimum geometry of CCS to minimize the effect of geometric errors is determined through minimum norm approach. Experimental results with test rotors have confirmed the improvement in geometric error suppression.
