  • A high-performance PWM technique in current-controlled AC to DC converter is introduced. This converter used information about source voltage vectors to make good PWM switching pattern that it can control the DC output voltage with reduced ripple factor and rapid response. In addition to reduction of harmonic current, AC input power factor can be controlled to leading or lagging by current reference. Simulation was made based on analytical approach and it showed a good agreement with theory.

  • A compensation strategy for the phase-difference control method, which has been reported as a new driving method of a 2-phase inverter-fed induction motor, is proposed. The phase-difference control method extends the control range of the speed and eliminates the harmonic contents of the output voltage of the 2-phase inverter-fed induction motor. However, the phase-difference angle becomes narrower, motor efficiency deceases more and pulsating torque increases more. As the counterplan for these shortcomings of the phase-difference control method, a hybrid control method which combines the phase-difference control with the voltage control is proposed. The algorithm to realize a hybrid method is presented. As an example, a model composed of 5 regions has been analyzed by computer simulation in terms of motor performance and the results have been compared with experimental results.

  • A novel current controlled PWM voltage source type converter and control strategy is proposed that is able to draw nearly sinusoidal current at unity power factor from three phase power lines. Current error vector control scheme is used which has two operating states : low harmonic current content state and quick current response state. The state is changed according to the current error to optimize the steady state and transient state performances. To regulate the dc oupput voltage, the magnitude of the reference current is determined by a controller dc voltage error. The ac input power factor can be controlled with unity, and even leading or lagging by adjusting the relative position of the reference current with respect to the supply voltage.

  • In this paper, a multilevel PWM inverter employing a cascaded transformer is presented to reduce the harmonics of output voltage and load currents. The proposed PWM inverter consists of two full-bridge modules and their corresponding transformers. The secondarics of each transformer are series-connected. So continuous output voltage levels can be synthesized from the suitable selection of the turns ratio of trasformer. And it appears an integral ratio to input DC source. Because of the cascaded connection of transformers, output filter inductor is not necessary. The operational principles and analysis are explained, and it is compared with a conventional isolated H-bridge PWM inverter. The validity of proposed multilevel inverter is verified through simulated and experimental waveform and their FFT results.

  • This paper describes the control method in order that output current of a voltage source inverter tracks reference sinusoidal current so that its harmonic current components are reduced. Operating character of this inverter is analyzed with normalized values of parameter. And the method that apply multilayed feedfoeward neural networks, which play excellent steady state operation in control system, to inverter control system and training method are presented. Then, the output current of inverter which is driven by the proposed method. is considered throughout computer simulation and safe operating range of inverter parameter is resented.

  • In this paper, a recurrent cerebellar modulation articulation control (RCMAC) has been developed for improvement of noise attenuation performance in active noise control system. For the narrow band noise, a filter-x least mean square (FXLMS) method has bee frequently employed as an algorithm for active noise control (ANC) and has a partial satisfactory noise attenuation performance. However, noise attenuation performance of an ANC system with FXLMS method is poor for broad band noise and nonlinear path since it has linear filtering structure. Thus, an ANC system using RCMAC is proposed to improve this problem. Some simulations in duct system using harmonic motor noise and KTX cabin noise as a noise source were executed. It is shown that satisfactory noise attenuation performance can be obtained.

  • A number of electromagnetic devices periodically driven by solid-state switches have been analyzed with time-stepping finite element method, which requires much time to reach a steady state. The sensitivity analysis which have been used for the shape design is employed for an efficient calculation of linear magnetodynamics with nonsinusoidal driving sources. The high-order frequency sensitivity from the harmonic finite element formulation is used along with Fourier transform and Taylor series expansion. The algorithm is validated through a numerical example of a single-phase transformer driven by a trapezoidal voltage source.

  • This paper investigates control algorithms for a doubly fed induction generator with a back-to-back three-level neutral-point clamped voltage source converter in medium voltage wind power system under unbalanced grid conditions. Control algorithms to compensate for unbalanced conditions have been investigated with respect to four performance factors; fault ride-through capability, instantaneous active power pulsation, harmonic distortions, and torque pulsation. The control algorithm having zero amplitude of torque ripple shows the most cost-effective performance concerning torque pulsation. The least active power pulsation is produced by control algorithm that nullifies the oscillating component of the instantaneous stator active and reactive power. Combination of these two control algorithms depending on the operating requirements and depth of grid unbalance presents most optimized performance factors under the generalized unbalanced operating conditions leading to high performance DFIG wind turbine system. The proposed control algorithms are verified through transient response in the simulation.

  • An optimized PWM switching strategy for an induction motor voltage control is developed and demonstrated. Space vector modulation in voltage source inverter offers improved DC-bus utilization and reduced commutation losses, and has been therefor recognizedas the perfered PWM method, especially in the case of digital implementation. Three-phase invertor voltage control by space vector modulation consists of switching between the two active and one zero voltage vector by using the proposed optimal PWM algorithm. The prefered switching sequence is defined as a function of the modulation index and period of a carrier wave. The sequence is selected by suing the inverter switching losses and the current ripple as the criteria. For low and medium power application, the experimental results indicate that good dynamic response and reduced harmonic distortion can be achieved by increasing switching frequency.
