  • This thesis proposes novel SRP-PWM(Separately Random Pulse Position PWM) techniques and novel two-phase switching pattern applied to four-switch inverter, having various advantages such as operation time decrease that is required for decrease of switching damage, easy of implementation and inverter control at high frequency switching. In this thesis, we wish to confirm that SRP-PWM techniques disperse harmonic spectrum of inverter output current evenly into wide frequency area, that is, side-band of specification frequency. And we confirm the harmonic reduction effect of proposed techniques. Therefore, we will achieve an experiment by IGBT inverter using DSP and will verify the validity of proposed techniques compared with simulation results that use MATLAB/SIMULINK.

  • Vibration profiles consist of two kinds of pattern, random and harmonic, at general engineering problems and the detailed vibration test mode of a target system is decided by the spectral condition that is exposed under operation. In moving mobility, random responses come generally from road source; whereas the harmonic responses are triggered from rotating machinery parts, such as combustion engine or drive shaft. Different spectral input may accumulate different damage in frequency domain since the accumulated fatigue damage dependent on the pattern of input spectrum in high cyclic loading condition. To evaluate the sensitivity of spectral damage according to different loading conditions, a linear elastic system is introduced to conduct a uniaxial vibration testing. Measured data, acceleration and strain, is analyzed using energy isocline function and then, the calculated fatigue damage is compared by different loading cases, random and harmonic.

  • The relation between HPA (High Power Amplifier) and COMS (Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite) multi-carrier is analyzed in this paper. MODAC (Meteorological and Ocean Data Application Center) has a primary mission to transmit processed data, HRIT (High Rate Information Transmission) and LRIT (Low Rate Information Transmission), which is normalized and calibrated by pre-processing. It is also replaced with the SOC (Satellite Operation Center) in emergency case and can transmit the command and ranging tones for operation of COMS. From the result of simulation with modelled HPA, it is found that the multi-carrier in one HPA can give rise to an inter-modulation which makes harmonic and spurious elements increase in-band. Under the environment of these increased parasitic elements, the degradation of multi-carrier's quality is estimated from the ratio of the amount of noise to total output power of HPA.

  • Most of the substations, which had been constructed so far, only took into account the current distortion as an evaluation factor for harmonics. There is, however, growing tendency for the currently constructed substations to construct transmission lines in an underground way. Therefore, the overhaul investigation on the psophometric current is all the more necessary. In this study, the harmonic current, the current distortion and the psophometric current, which flow into the substation in accordance with a feeding system and the number of trains in operation are investigated and compared based on the six-port analysis method of feeding system, which has been proposed.

  • This paper presents the single-stage High Power Factor TSFC(Two-Switch Forward Converter). Recently, due to growing concern about the harmonic pollution of power distribution systems and the adoption of standards such as ICE 61000-3-2 and IEEE 519, There is a need to reduce the harmonic contents of AC line currents of power supplies. This research proposed the single-stage two switch forward circuit for low voltage and high current output. The principle of operation, feature and design considerations are illustrated and verified through the experiment with a 200W(5V, 40A) 200kHz MOSFET based experimental circuit.

  • In this paper, a novel utility connected photovoltaic power generation system with unity power factor and uninterruptable power system facility and its control strategy are proposed. The proposed photovoltaic(PV) system is connected in parallel between utility and load. The PV system provides an uninterruptable voltage to load, a maximum power tracking to solar array, and power factor correction to the utility. The proposed system has the following advantages compared with the conventional utility connected PV system. 1. Harmonic elimination Function 2. Feeding the photovoltaic energy to the utility 3. Providing the uninterruptible power source along battery to the load In case that the photovoltaic array system is on the poor power generation, the battery and capacitor of the PV system are charged by three phase utility source and the inverter in the PV system only provides the reactive current to eliminate the harmonic current exited on the utility. In the normal operation mode, the PV system supplies active power to load and reactive power to utility in order to maintain the unity power factor and to regulate ac load voltage.

  • This paper deals with the harmonic reduction technique in square-wave inverters which can regenerate the dc power from dc bus line to ac bus line in substations for traction systems. To reduce the harmonics, two 6-pulse inverters are used for 12-pulse operation and zigzag-connected output transformers for eliminating the harmonics of 6(2m-1)$\pm$1 orders. And an ac filter is furnished at output side. In spite of the square-wave three-phase inverters, computer simulations show that the THDs of the output voltage and current are 2.55% and 0.554%, respectively.

  • During magnetic inrush or over-excitation, saturation of the core in a transformer draws a large exciting current, which can cause mal-operation of a differential relay. This paper proposes a modified current differential relay for transformer protection. The relay calculates core-loss current from the induced voltage and the core-loss resistance; the relay calculates the magnetizing current from the core flux and the magnetization curve. Finally, the relay obtains the modified differential current by subtracting the core-loss and the magnetizing currents from the conventional differential current. Comparison study with the conventional differential relay with harmonic blocking is also shown. The proposed technique not only discriminates magnetic inrush and over-excitation from an internal fault, but also improves the speed of the conventional relay.

  • For electric traction using a large power converter, harmonic problem in the p-ower quality and regenerating energy in side of efficiency are important. Recently, by advance in power electronics technology, some countries are considering regenerative inverter from the points of view. when the electric tractions are stopped or driven through the falling slope way, it is very useful to supply surplus energy to the power source by regenerating system in the efficient side of energy and it is very economical. these regenerating energy are supported electrical equipment through DC line. In this research, the purposes are suppressing extra DC-line voltage and saving energy generated while electric traction is been driving on the falling slope way or reducing speed for railway using a 1500V DC-voltage. Besides, the accompanied defects of current distortion, low power factor and the voltage unbalance will be solved by developing the algorism of inverter having ability to compensate current harmonic.
