A Study on Nonlinear Controller of DC Servo-motors with Harmonic Drive Gearing and Its Synchronous Operation (하모닉 드라이브를 가진 DC 서보 모터의 비선형 제어기와 동기 운전에 관한 연구)

  • A harmonic drive is compact torque transmission device with no backlash which is widely applied in industrial field to transmit torque precisely. However, one of the disadvantages of harmonic drives is the existence of mechanical flexibility caused by its structural properties, which imposes great limitation on designing precise controller This paper proposes a nonlinear controller for synchronous operation of DC servo-motors with harmonic drive, using Integrator Backstepping method. Furthermore, an alternative algorithm for serial type synchronous operation of multiple DC servo-motors is proposed. Simulation results by SIMULINK for proposed controller shows considerably small error and rapid approach to reference input, which can be adapted to industrial applications.

A Harmonic Circulation Current Reduction Method for Parallel Operation of UPS with a Three-Phase PWM Inverter

  • In a parallel operation of UPS, there are two types of circulating currents between UPS. One is the low order circulating current with a fundamental frequency caused by the amplitude and phase differences of UPS output voltages, and the other is the harmonic circulating current with PWM switching frequency caused by non-synchronized PWM waveforms among UPS. The elimination of the low order circulating current is essential for optimal load sharing in parallel operations of UPS, which can be accomplished by the phase and magnitude control at each UPS. The harmonic circulating current may cause troubles and deteriorate in performance of the controller for optimal load sharing in parallel operation of UPS. This paper presents a PWM synchronizing method to eliminate the harmonic circulation current in parallel operation of UPS. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme has been investigated and verified through experiments by a 50kVA UPS.

  • Recently, according to the spread of semiconductor applied technology like motor speed control contrivance, power conversion installation and so on, harmonic ingredients occurred in switching operation flow into a distribution system and increase voltage distortion of distribution system and bring on obstacles like damage, lowering of capability, false operation and so on of various electrical installation. So, in order to consider a countermeasure to limit occurrence quantity of harmonic source, harmonic interception and others, precision measurement and analysis on voltage, current, power, power factor, the each ingredient of harmonic order, the percentage of total harmonic distortion and so forth are needed. In this paper monitoring system to measure and analyze power quality connected with power harmonics was developed and it's performance is verified by measuring and analyzing three-phase voltage and current of R, S, T in the three-phase and four-wire system using the developed measurement system.

That is, electromagnetic interference with communication lines, operational trouble in signaling, overheat and/or vibration in power capacitor, mis-operation in protection relay and so on. Therefore, the exact assessment of the harmonic current flow must be undertaken at design and planning stage for the electric traction systems. For these reasons, this study propose a new approach to model and to analyse traction power feeding system focused on system response to current and voltage harmonic(PART I ). Measurements of harmonics are also performed for railway power supply systems under normal operation. Spectrum and distortion analyses in measurement data are variously described in PART II

  • Voltage unbalance will be generated by the load unbalance operation such as combination operation of single & three phase load and current unbalance will be more severe by the deteriorated voltage quality. Under the these unbalance conditions, all power electronic converters used in different types of electronic systems can increase harmonic disturbances by injecting harmonic currents directly into the feeder grid of three phase 4-wire. Harmonic current may cause torque to decrease. it may also overheat or become noisy and torque oscillation in the rotor can lead to mechanical resonance and vibration. This paper presents a scheme on the characteristics of induction motor under the combination of linear & non-linear loads at the three phase 4-wire power distribution system by the unbalance and harmonic components. It was able to confirm that the number of torque pulsation decreased and torque ripple values increased by the harmonics that reduction was difficult by five harmonics filters at additional driving time of single-phase non-linear load.

  • A parallel control strategy in capacity proportion frequency allocation mode for shunt active power filters (APFs) is proposed to overcome some of the difficulties in high power applications. To improve the compensation accuracy and overall system stability, an improved selective harmonic current control based on multiple synchronous rotating reference coordinates is presented in a single APF unit, which approximately implements zero steady-state error compensation. The combined decoupling strategy is proposed and theoretically analyzed to simplify selective harmonic current control. Improved selective harmonic current control forms the basis for multi-APF parallel operation. Therefore, a parallel control strategy is proposed to realize a proper optimization so that the APFs with a larger capacity compensate more harmonic current and the ones with a smaller capacity compensate less harmonic current, which is very practical for accurate harmonic current compensation and stable grid operation in high power applications. This is verified by experimental results. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is reduced from 29% to 2.7% for a typical uncontrolled rectifier load with a resistor and an inductor in a laboratory platform.

  • Recently, power conversion equipment increased rapidly makes a lot of harmonics. Thus, it is growing that wrong operation and break down of sensitive devices. There are two kinds of causes of harmonics. One of them is lots of power conversion equipment as modem controller, inverter, converter and SWS(Switching Mode Power Supply). Another is nonlinear operating machines as transformer and motor. The more nonlinear loads like them grow, the more serious problems as harmonic current to source and low power factor because of increasing reactive power grow. It is installed for reactor and L-C Filter to decrease harmonic in general. This paper analysis and compares two of characteristics and harmonic from reactor and L-C Filter with operation of induction motor and power conversion equipment. In the result, L-C Filter more improves unbalance rate and THD than reactor.

  • Recently, TTX(Tilting Train eXpress) has operated test. Electric railways, including the TTX, have electric problems(harmonic etc) that could bring about serious accidents.. Thus, TTX's electrical problems also need leading studies because the new Korean TTX will operate earnestly in 2012. In this paper, electrical signals in TTX operation were detected to analyze electrical harmonic. The electrical harmonics considered operation modes triparted(coasting, acceleration, braking) were analysed and evaluated.
