This paper presents a model predictive control for shunt active power filters in synchronous reference frame using space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM). The three phase load currents are transformed into synchronous rotating reference frame in order to reduce the order of the control system. The proposed current controller calculates reference current command for harmonic current components in synchronous frame. The fundamental load current components are transformed into dc components revealing only the harmonics. The predictive current controller will add robustness and fast compensation to generate commands to the SVPWM which minimizes switching frequency while maintaining fast harmonic compensation. By using the model predictive control, the optimal switching state to be applied to the next sampling time is selected. The filter current contains only the harmonic components, which are the reference compensating currents. In this method the supply current will be equal to the fundamental component of load current and a part of the current at fundamental frequency for losses of the inverter. Mathematical analysis and the feasibility of the suggested approach are verified through simulation results under steady state and transient conditions for non-linear load. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is confirmed through experimental validation.
In order to enhance torque density of five-phase permanent magnetic synchronous motor with third harmonic injection for electric vehicles (EVs) applications, optimum seeking method for injection ratio of third harmonic was proposed adopting theoretical derivation and finite element analysis method, under the constraint of same amplitude for current and air-gap flux. By five-dimension space vector decomposition, the mathematic model in two orthogonal space plane, $d_1-q_1$ and $d_3-q_3$, was deduced. And the corresponding dual-plane vector control method was accomplished to independently control fundamental and third harmonic currents in each vector plane. A five-phase PMSM prototype with quasi-trapezoidal flux pattern and its fivephase voltage source inverter were designed. Also, the dual-plane vector control was digitized in a single XC3S1200E FPGA. Simulation and experimental results prove that using the proposed optimum seeking method, the torque density of five-phase PMSM is enhanced by 20%, without any increase of power converter capacity, machine size and iron core saturation.

In this paper, adaptive higher harmonic control technique using Neural Networks (NN) is proposed. First, linear transfer function is estimated to relate the input harmonics and output harmonics, then NN which has the universal function approximation property is applied to expand application range of the transfer function. Optimal control gain matrix computed from the transfer function is used to train NN weights. Online weight adaptation laws are derived from Lyapunov's direct method to guarantee internal stability. Results of the simulation of 6-input 2-output nonlinear system show that adaptive HHC is applicable to the system with uncertain transfer function.

Torque ripples generate mechanical vibration at low speed and acoustic noise at high speed. The back emf harmonics of a PM synchronous motor is one of the main sources of torque ripples. To reduce torque ripples resulting from back emf harmonics, dq-axis harmonic currents that reduce the torque ripples are generally compensated to the current controller. Harmonic current compensation is effective at low speed, but it is not applicable at high speed because of the limited bandwidth of the current controller. In this study, dq-axis harmonic voltage compensation that can reduce torque ripples at high speed is proposed. The dq-axis harmonic voltages are calculated from the motor speed and the dq-axis harmonic currents. The effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing torque ripple is verified by a simulation and experiments.
An improved circulating current suppression control method is proposed in this paper. In the proposed controller, an outer loop of the average capacitor voltage control model is used to balance the sub-module capacitor voltage. Meanwhile, an individual voltage balance controller and an arm voltage balance controller are also used. The DC and harmonic components of the circulating current are separated using a low pass filter. Therefore, a multiple quasi-proportional-resonant (multi-quasi-PR) controller is introduced in the inner loop to eliminate the circulating harmonic current, which mainly contains second-order harmonic but also contains other high-order harmonics. In addition, the parameters of the multi-quasi-PR controller are designed in the discrete domain and an analysis of the stability characteristic is given in this paper. In addition, a simulation model of a three-phase MMC system is built in order to confirm the correctness and superiority of the proposed controller. Finally, experiment results are presented and compared. These results illustrate that the improved control method has good performance in suppressing circulating harmonic current and in balancing the capacitor voltage.
This paper presents a power system harmonic elimination using the mixed adaptive linear neural network and variable step-size leaky least mean square (ADALINE-VSSLLMS) control algorithm based active power filter (APF). The weight vector of ADALINE along with the variable step-size parameter and leakage coefficient of the VSSLLMS algorithm are automatically adjusted to eliminate harmonics from the distorted load current. For all iteration, the VSSLLMS algorithm selects a new rate of convergence for searching and runs the computations. The adopted shunt-hybrid APF (SHAPF) consists of an APF and a series of 7th tuned passive filter connected to each phase. The performance of the proposed ADALINE-VSSLLMS control algorithm employed for SHAPF is analyzed through a simulation in a MATLAB/Simulink environment. Experimental results of a real-time prototype validate the efficacy of the proposed control algorithm.
In this paper, a predictive direct power control (DPC) method based on a Kalman filter is presented for three-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) rectifiers to improve the performance of rectifiers with source voltages that are distorted with harmonic components. This method can eliminate the most significant harmonic components of the source voltage using a Kalman filter algorithm. In the process of predicting the future real and reactive power to select an optimal voltage vector in the predictive DPC, the proposed method utilizes source voltages filtered by a Kalman filter, which can mitigate the adverse effects of distorted source voltages on control performance. As a result, the quality of the source currents synthesized using the PWM rectifier is improved, and the total harmonic distortion (THD) values are reduced, even under distorted source voltages.

An increase of pulsed power demand and load variation produce bad effect to power system. This causes power factor decrease. This paper proposes the excitation of the secondary side of wound rotor induction machine as one of harmonic compensation systems. In this paper, a harmonic compensation scheme based on stator flux-oriented vector control is proposed. By using the flux-oriented vector control, a voltage source PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) control scheme can be applied with fast dynamic response time. The designed control scheme is verified through simulation.

Large capacity reactive power compensation and harmonic control in the low-voltage grid of an enterprise, are important technical means to improve power quality and reduce power loss. In this paper, the principle of an efficient power quality controller is analyzed. Then, key application technologies of the HPQC which would influence the performances of the HPQC are studied. Based on an analysis of the harmonic shunt problem, a frequency dividing control strategy of the HPQC continuous subsystem is proposed. A parameter design method of the HPQC discrete subsystem and its installation method are also proposed to ensure the system compensation effect. HPQC systems have been designed for a copper foil plant. The effectiveness of this paper has been verified by the simulation and application results.
In the present study, active control of a smart beam under forced vibration is analyzed. The aluminum smart beam is composed of two piezoelectric patches and strain gauge. One of the piezoelectric patches is used as controlling actuator while the other piezoelectric patch is used as vibration generating shaker. The smart beam is harmonically excited by the piezoelectric shaker at its fundamental frequency. The strain gauge is utilized to sense the vibration level. Active vibration reduction under harmonic excitation is achieved using both strain and displacement feedback control. Control actions, the finite element (FE) modeling and analyses are directly carried out by using ANSYS parametric design language (APDL). Experimental applications are performed with LabVIEW. Dynamic behavior at the tip of the beam is evaluated for the uncontrolled and controlled responses. The simulation and experimental results are compared. Good agreement is observed between simulation and experimental results under harmonic excitation.
