Aiming at the negative sequence and harmonic problems in the operation of railway static power conditioners, an optimization compensation strategy for negative sequence and harmonics is studied in this paper. First, the hybrid RPC topology and compensation principle are analyzed to obtain different compensation zone states and current capacities. Second, in order to optimize the RPC capacity configuration, the minimum RPC compensation capacity is calculated according to constraint conditions, and the optimal compensation coefficient and compensation angle are obtained. In addition, the voltage unbalance ${\varepsilon}_U$ and power factor requirements are satisfied. A PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm is used to calculate the three indexes for minimum compensating energy. The proposed method can precisely calculate the optimal compensation capacity in real time. Finally, MATLAB simulations and an experimental platform verify the effectiveness and economics of the proposed algorithm.

Large capacity reactive power compensation and harmonic control in the low-voltage grid of an enterprise, are important technical means to improve power quality and reduce power loss. In this paper, the principle of an efficient power quality controller is analyzed. Then, key application technologies of the HPQC which would influence the performances of the HPQC are studied. Based on an analysis of the harmonic shunt problem, a frequency dividing control strategy of the HPQC continuous subsystem is proposed. A parameter design method of the HPQC discrete subsystem and its installation method are also proposed to ensure the system compensation effect. HPQC systems have been designed for a copper foil plant. The effectiveness of this paper has been verified by the simulation and application results.
An advanced active power filter for the compensation of instantaneous harmonic current components in nonlinear current load is presented in this paper. A novel signal processing technique using an adaptive neural network algorithm is applied for the detection of harmonic components generated by three-phase nonlinear current loads and this method can efficiently determine the instantaneous harmonic components in real time. The control strategy of the switching signals to compensate current harmonics of the three-phase inverter is also discussed and its switching signals are generated with the space voltage vector modulation scheme. The validity of this active filtering processing system to compensate current harmonics is substantiated on the basis of simulation results.

This paper describes new harmonic disturbance compensation based on a peak filter array for Hard Disk Drives. Unlike a conventional method, the proposed method does not require any sin/cos functions or tables and reduces effects of all harmonic disturbances within a nyquist frequency. Two factors are introduced to parameterize stability and a gain tune. In addition, it is verified that the order of the proposed filter is minimal. From 600 experimental results, 8.5% performance improvement is achieved.

This paper dealt with the influence of harmonic voltages on arrester diagnostics and its compensation method by using a designed Pspice arrester model. A pure sinusoidal voltage and its 3$^{rd}$ harmonic voltage were applied to the model, and the leakage current components were analyzed. The simulation results have shown that the peak value of resistive leakage current depends not only on the phase of the 3$^{rd}$ harmonic voltage but also on the magnitude of it. In this paper, an approximated 5$^{th}$ order polynomial formula by the Least-Square-Technique was derived, and correction factors which compensate the error caused by the 3$^{rd}$ harmonic voltage were calculated.
In this paper, we propose a speed sensorless control of the saturated induction motor using the zero sequence third harmonic voltages and a compensation method of the stator resistance variations. The air-gap flux of the saturated induction motor contains the space harmonic components rorating synchronous frequency. As a function of the air-gap flux saturation, the dominant third harmonic voltage is used to compensate the non-linear variations of the mutual inductance depending on the saturation level of the motor. and also the stator resistance variations can be measured with the phase angle between the voltage vector and the zero sequencial voltages. The validity of the proposed compensation scheme in the speed sensorless control using rotor flux observer is verified by simulations.

The output current of the Grid Connected Inverter (GCI) can be polluted with harmonics mainly due to i) dead time in switches, ii) non-linearity of switches, iii) grid harmonics, and iv) DC link fluctuation. Therefore, it is essential to design the robust Harmonic Compensation (HC) technique for the improvement of output current quality and fulfill the IEEE 1547 Total harmonics Distortion (THD) limit i.e. <5%. The conventional harmonic techniques often are complex in implementation due to their i) additional hardware needs, ii) complex structure, iii) difficulty in tuning of parameters, iv) current controller compatibility issues, and v) higher computational burden. In this paper, to eliminate the harmonics from the GCI output current, a novel Digital Lock-In Amplifier (DLA) based harmonic detection is proposed. The advantage of DLA is that it extracts the harmonic information accurately, which is further compensated by means of PI controller in feed forward manner. Moreover, the proposed HC method does not require additional hardware and it works with any current controller reference frame. To show the effectiveness of the proposed HC method a 5kW GCI prototype built in laboratory. The output current THD is achieved less than 5% even with 10% load, which is verified by simulation and experiment.

This paper presents a model predictive control for shunt active power filters in synchronous reference frame using space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM). The three phase load currents are transformed into synchronous rotating reference frame in order to reduce the order of the control system. The proposed current controller calculates reference current command for harmonic current components in synchronous frame. The fundamental load current components are transformed into dc components revealing only the harmonics. The predictive current controller will add robustness and fast compensation to generate commands to the SVPWM which minimizes switching frequency while maintaining fast harmonic compensation. By using the model predictive control, the optimal switching state to be applied to the next sampling time is selected. The filter current contains only the harmonic components, which are the reference compensating currents. In this method the supply current will be equal to the fundamental component of load current and a part of the current at fundamental frequency for losses of the inverter. Mathematical analysis and the feasibility of the suggested approach are verified through simulation results under steady state and transient conditions for non-linear load. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is confirmed through experimental validation.
This paper presents a new control method of single-phase active power filter (APF) for the compensation of harmonic current components in nonlinear loads. To facilitate the possibility of complex calculation for harmonic current detection of the single phase, a single-phase system that has two phases was constructed by including an imaginary second-phase giving time delay to the load current. The imaginary phase, which lagged the load current T/4 (Here T is the fundamental cycle) is used in the conventional method. But in this proposed method, the new signal as the second phase is delayed by the filter. Because this control method is applied to a single-phase system, an instantaneous calculation was developed by using the rotating reference frames synchronized to source-frequency rather than by applying instantaneous reactive power theory that uses the conventional fixed reference frames. The control scheme of single-phase APF for the current source with R-L loads is applied to a laboratory prototype to verify the proposed control method.
Active power filters (APF) can be employed for harmonic compensation in power systems. In this paper, a fuzzy based method is proposed for identification of probable APF nodes of a radial distribution system. The modified adaptive particle swarm optimization (MAPSO) technique is used for final selection of the APFs size. A combination of Fuzzy-MAPSO method is implemented to determine the optimal allocation and size of APFs. New fuzzy membership functions are formulated where the harmonic current membership is an exponential function of the nodal injecting harmonic current. Harmonic voltage membership has been formulated as a function of the node harmonic voltage. The product operator shows better performance than the AND operator because all harmonics are considered in computing membership function. For evaluating the proposed method, it has been applied to the 5-bus and 18-bus test systems, respectively, which the results appear satisfactorily. The proposed membership functions are new at the APF placement problem so that weighting factors can be changed proportional to objective function.
