In this paper, a study on the reflector type frequency doubler, to suppress the undesired harmonics, is presented. A 12 to 24 GHz reflective frequency doubler is simulated and experimented. Design procedure of the frequency doubler with reflector is provided and the frequency doubler with good spectral purity is fabricated successfully. It has harmonic suppression of the $40{\sim}50\;dBc$ in the $1^{st}$ harmonic and the $50{\sim}60\;dB$ in the $3^{rd}$ harmonic with no additional filter. And, it has conversion gain with the input power of 0 dBm over bandwidth of 500 MHz. A NEC's ne71300(N) GaAs FET is used and the nonlinear model(EEFET3) using IC-CAP program is extracted for harmonic load pull simulation. Good agreement between simulated and measured results has been achieved.
This paper deals with a simple method in order to analyze and compare the harmonic characteristics in the multi-level inverter. Generally, the magnitude of harmonic components becomes different according to the multi-carrier Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) techniques, the modulation index($M_i$) and the switching frequency The previous papers analyzed the harmonic characteristics from the viewpoint of the space voltage vector. Hence, the calculation of the harmonic vector becomes more difficult and complex in 4-level or over 5-level. However, the proposed method has reduced an amount of calculation and simplified the process of it, using the relationship between the reference voltage and the output phase voltage to the load neutral point. It is applied to the 5-level cascade inverter and the harmonic characteristics for each multi-carrier PWM technique are compared through the simulation.
Electromagnetic radiation at the plasma frequency and its second harmonic, the so-called plasma emission, is fundamental process responsible for solar type II and III radio bursts. There have also been occasional observations of higher-harmonic plasma emissions in the solar-terrestrial environment. We will present that the simulation effort on characterizing the electron beam-generated plasma emission process at POSTECH. We have developed fully electromagnetic particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation code with three dimensions. We simulated harmonic plasma emission with various beam condition. Qualitative comparison with the traditional plasma frequency and second harmonic radiation theory is in good agreement. Higher harmonic emissions agree with the theory of coalescence of Langmuir and harmonic EM wave.
A new approach to the active phased arrays for the second harmonic generation is presented. Phase variation between the second harmonic oscillators by the mutual synchronization is analyzed theoretically. In this coupling, the active antenna consists of the FET oscillator which plays two roles in fundamental oscillation and frequency multiplying, and the patch antenna resonated at the second harmonic frequency. The radiated second harmonic wave was scanned by varying the free-running oscillation frequencies of the active antennas. In the experiment using the 2-elements array and the 4-elements array, the radiated beam of the second harmonic wave was scanned more widely compared with the case of the fundamental wave radiation.
The interest for harmonic problems has been increasing due to the increment of nonlinear loads. The loads such as DC power system, personal computers, UPS system, inverters and converters operate as harmonic current sources. In this paper, a new type of the passive filter, Hybrid Harmonic Filter (HHF) is suggested to mitigate harmonic problems in power systems. The HHF is developed for reducing harmonic current, especially on the system that includes 6-pulse bridge rectifiers. Also, it is expected to prevent the overheating of transformers and feeders due to overcurrent and to correct the power factor.

This paper presents the vibration and harmonic analysis of orthotropic laminated composite plate. The response of plate is determined using Finite Element Method. The eight noded shell 281 elements are used to analyze the orthotropic plates and results are obtained so that the right choice can be made in applications such as aircrafts, rockets, missiles, etc. to reduce the vibration amplitudes. Initially the model response for orthotropic plate and harmonic response for isotropic plate is verified with the available literature. The results are in good agreement with the available literature. Numerical results for the natural frequency and harmonic response amplitude are presented. Effects of boundary conditions, thickness to width ratio and number of layers on natural frequency and harmonic response of the orthographic plates are also investigated. The natural frequency, mode shape and harmonic analysis of laminated composite plate has been determined using finite element package ANSYS.
In this paper, a new continuously and linearly controlled capacitive static VAR compensator is proposed for the automatic power factor correction of inductive single phase loads in 220V 50Hz power system networks. The compensator is constructed of a harmonic-suppressed TCR equipped with a new adaptive current controller. The harmonic-suppressed TCR is a new configuration that includes a thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) shunted by a passive third harmonic filter. In addition, the parallel configuration is connected to an AC source via a series first harmonic filter. The harmonic-suppressed TCR is designed so that negligible harmonic current components are injected into the AC source. The compensator is equipped with a new adaptive closed loop current controller, which responds linearly to reactive current demands. The no load operating losses of this compensator are negligible when compared to its capacitive reactive current rating. The proposed system is validated on PSpice which is very close in terms of performance to real hardware.
As a non-linear time variant system, the four-quadrant line converter of an electric multiple unit (EMU) was expressed by linear time periodic functions near an operating point and modeled by a steady-state harmonic domain matrix. The components were then combined according to the circuit connection and relations of the feedback control loops to form a complete converter model. The proposed modeling method allows the study of the amplitude of harmonic impedances to explore harmonic coupling. Moreover, the proposed method helps provide a better design for the converter controllers, as well as solves the problem in coordination operation between the EMUs and the AC supply. On-site data from an actual $CRH_2$ high-speed train were used to validate the modeling principles presented in the paper.
In order to increase an efficiency of electric machine, the power electric devices are rapidly increasing of late. These electric components are mainly caused to lower of power quality. To take precautions against lower of power quality, the advanced countries already made effort to control of harmonic level. For these harmonic control of advanced countries have applied harmonic planning level, emission of harmonic based on the technical calculation and experiment. In this paper, we have investigated the introduction abroad advanced country standard through compared IEEE, IEC with the real measurement of domestic harmonic level.
This paper presents a simple approach for the selective harmonic elimination (SHE) of multilevel inverter based on the transistor-clamped H-bridge (TCHB) family. The SHE modulation is derived from the sinusoidal voltage-angle equal criteria corresponding to the optimized switching angles. The switching angles are computed offline by solving transcendental non-linear equations characterizing the harmonic contents using the Newton-Raphson method to produce an optimum stepped output. Simulation and experimental tests are conducted for verification of the analytical solutions. An Altera DE2 field-programmable gate array (FPGA) board is used as the digital controller device in order to verify the proposed SHE modulation in real-time applications. An analysis of the voltage total harmonic distortion (THD) has been obtained for multiple output voltage cases. In terms of the THD, the results showed that the higher the number of output levels, the lower the THD due to an increase number of harmonic orders being eliminated.
